Your Conversation With Rover The Cat Determines Your Avatars Look

For a game thats supposed to be all about you,Animal Crossing: New Leaf offers little in avatar customization options, especially early in the experience. When you start the game, you have a conversation on the train with a cat named Rover, and the answers you provide to Rovers questions determine your avatars gender, eye shape, hairstyle, and hair color.

While you cant change your avatars eye shape, you can change his or her hair color and style once you unlock the Shampoodle hair salon.

Nintendo Item Fortune Cookies

Some of the most beloved items in Animal Crossing: New Leaf were the iconic Nintendo themed ones from series like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pikmin, and much more. By purchasing and eating a fortune cookie from Timmy & Tommys Shop, you could get a randomly chosen Nintendo themed item every day!

i miss all those neat little nintendo items you could get from fortune cookies in new leaf!!!

Honestly, it feels inevitable that these Nintendo themed items will make their way to Animal Crossing: New Horizons eventually its just a matter of time. Hopefully sooner than later!

2021 Update: In the March 2021 Update, the developers did introduce a series of Mario themed items to New Horizons, but arguably the best non-Mario items for Zelda and others are still missing.

What To Do On Your First Day

After you complete The Train Ride, you will arrive in your town and will be greeted by the local inhabitants. You quickly find out that you’re not just a new guest in town like in previous Animal Crossing games you’re actually the mayor!

To get started, follow your new acquaintance to Town Hall. Consult the map on the bottom screen at any time to find your way. After a quick chat there, you learn that her name is Isabelle and she’s your assistant and you’re off to meet Tom Nook in order to secure yourself a house. Just head north, cross the train tracks and seek out the store with the leaf symbol on it.

Tom Nook will let you choose a plot to build your house on. Just walk into town and pick an open space by talking to Tom, and he’ll reserve the spot. Since your house takes time to build, you’ll receive a temporary one: a tent.

Head back to Isabelle and talk to her she’ll give you tips on what to do next. Depending on the time of day, you can, for example, go and meet all the animals, collect some fruit or gather sea shells at the shore. When you go into your tent, Isabelle will gift you your first item: a lantern. She will show you how to place it in your room, turn it on, or move it.

This is where the game really starts off. From here on out, it’s up to you what comes next. Tell us what you want to accomplish in a quick poll, and we’ll be happy to point you in the right direction! To make things even easier, there’s a few Basic Tips that might help, too.

How Night Life Killed My Animal Crossing: New Leaf Town

This post has not been edited by the GamesBeat staff. Opinions by GamesBeat community writers do not necessarily reflect those of the staff.

After three months of Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Ive given up. As I type this now, I am taking the cartridge out of my Nintendo 3DS, putting it in the box, and shelving it in my immense backlog of unplayed and unfinished games.

Ive played both the original Animal Crossing and City Folk extensively. Bug and fish collecting has never been my thing, but Ive gotten fully upgraded houses, stores, and some oddities here and there like a golden axe in City Folk.

At about 53 hours of New Leaf, Ive earned enough to build a house with four rooms of various sizes, three bridges, and town developments like the coffee shop and the second floor of the museum.

Two major factors are preventing me from really grinding into New Leaf: time and money.

Im in the unfortunate position of working night shift. I regularly arrive home at about 2-3 a.m. This wasnt a problem when the T& T Mart was a convenience store as it stayed open until the wee hours of the morning. I could go home, pop open New Leaf, and go about my Animal Crossing day bathed in moonlight.

While New Leaf has a lot of new content to discover, money plays an even greater role than in past installments. I simply cannot keep up with all the house upgrades and town projects. In past titles, I could see a glorious, carefree future ahead of me. In New Leaf, the debt is overwhelming.

In Animal Crossing And Doubutsu No Mori E+

Animal CrossingAnimal Crossing

In Animal Crossing and Doubutsu no Mori e+, the Fireworks Festival is held at the town’s lake on 4 from 7-9 PM, coinciding with Independence Day in the United States. According to a bulletin board posting advertising the event, the show is held to commemorate the anniversary of the Train Station opening. Villagers gather around the lake, and the fireworks can be seen reflected in the water throughout town. In the original Japanese release of Animal Crossing, Fireworks Festivals are instead held each Saturday in August.

During a Fireworks Festival, Tortimer can be found roaming in a random acre and will give the player a decorative Bottle Rocket if he is spoken to in the original Japanese release, he instead gives the player a Three-Foot Ball. Redd will set up a stall by the lake selling handheld items for 480 Bells. He can sell either balloons, pinwheels, or fans, and which one he sells changes each Fireworks Festival.

Farming Stars On Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing: New Leaf – Day 18: Midnight Oil

Shooting stars and meteor showers are recurring evening-only spectacles on Animal Crossing: New Horizons. They take the form of meteoroids that whiz across the sky randomly some nights, and will yield players stars, zodiac fragments, and star fragments for use in DIY, e.g. wands, Taurus bathtubs, Pisces lamps, asteroids, astronaut suits, and even flying saucers and lunar rovers. To acquire these much-coveted celestial pieces, keep an eye out for shooting stars during clear evenings. Press the up button and shift your perspective to the night sky and make sure you arent holding or doing anything. Stay outdoors and listen closely. To wish on a star and win fragments, press A as soon as a hypervelocity rock bullets through. Shooting stars usually come in pairs, so if you miss the first one, you can always wish on the second.

Insomniac Villagers On Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Most villagers wake and sleep at a preset time every day. The exact times differ from personality type to personality type normal villagers, for instance, wake at 5 AM and sleep at 9 PM, while sisterly ones wake at 9:30 AM and sleep at 3 AM but in general, most of your animal neighbors will be asleep after sundown. Their homes will be bolted shut and they will have a personalized sign pinned to their front door informing players to come back in the morning when theyre awake.

Some villagers, however, tend to break character and be strangely active at night. Instead of staying indoors, theyre usually engaged in some random activity anything from watering plants to hanging idly around rivers. Sometimes theyd be dancing next to a boombox you set up or exercising in the dead of the night in front of Resident Services when they could easily do the same thing when the sun is up. Some villagers would scamper around the island during graveyard hours, restless but oddly liberated. Nobody really knows why. Maybe they too just want some alone time or are more comfortable carrying out their daytime routines at night?

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is currently available on the Nintendo Switch.

If You Want To Keep A Townsperson Around Be An Awesome Friend

Some of your townspeople will be lifers, but others will get the itch to move out. If you have a true blue pal that you want to stick around, give him or her plenty of attention. Talk to him or her daily, send letters , and visit their house often.

Occasionally, a townsperson may fall ill and wont go outside. If you want to score real brownie points, bring them some medicine until they feel better. You can buy medicine at the Nooklings shop.

What To Do At Night

In the early parts of the game there isnt really a set answer to the question what to do at night. Since Resident Services and Timmy Nooks shop stay open 24 hours, you wont get locked out of too much right away. Stores will have set open and closed times later on though, and residents are often less active at nighttime. So really the answer is to explore as much as you can. Jump across the rivers if you can, and try to clean up some space in the weed-infested unexplored areas.

You can also take on some personal tasks, or ones that will earn you Nook Miles. In fact, night is a great time to check off some of those boxes that might be more frustrating or boring during the day. Catch fish and bugs, or collect crafting resources to be used later. Basically the night is when you have the most totally free time so use it on things that you might ignore during the day.

So while theres no direct answer to the question of what to do at night in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, thats because there are so many things to accomplish. Try them all out and figure out a routine you like and just keep following it.

Dont Mess Around Too Much With The In

Show & Tell Challenge

When you first start playing New Leaf, youll be asked to set the current time and date. Since the game moves in real-time, this all has a bearing on when stores will be open, etc. You can change the date and time every time you start up New Leaf, but you shouldnt do anything drastic: Time paradoxes can cause problems and glitches. Moreover, if you buy and sell turnips , changing the clock will cause your turnips to rot instantly and become worthless.

If your real-life follows a weird schedule and the Night Owl or Early Bird ordinances arent providing decent opportunities to visit New Leafs stores, then you might consider adjusting the game clock accordingly. Just dont go ripping back and forth through time.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Dedicated fans of the series can never run out of things to do on Animal Crossing: New Horizons, even and especially at night.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons was made to be enjoyed by gamers from all walks of life from overeager larks to reluctant night owls. Perhaps even a bit of both. If youve been playing almost exclusively during the day, consider yourself among the lucky majority the best of New Horizons typically occurs at daytime. The island would be bustling with villagers and merchants, its beaches and grassy paths brimming with life and vigor. Its the most exciting time of day to be an Animal Crossing player. But if youre among those forever resigned to a nocturnal schedule because of certain life and work responsibilities, it may feel as though you are monumentally missing out. With shops closed by 10, villagers mostly absent, and daytime vendors nowhere to be found, what else is there to do in the evening but catch 20 pieces of the same fish, trap 20 pieces of the same bugs, and wait for the rest of the island to wake up?

Check In With Your Villagers

Talking to your villagers each day can be a good way to earn Nook Miles. Even if you already spoke with them during the day, its a good idea to check in with them at night, too.

Villagers often have different dialogue during the night, and it can be interesting to see what they are up to. Some night-owl villagers may be out and about walking around the island, commenting on how its late.

Other villagers might be inside their homes. You can tell they are awake if their lights are on. If they are awake, go inside and visit them. They might be crafting something, and they will share the DIY recipe with you.

Set Town Ordinances That Suit Your Play Style

As soon as you have a few extra bells to throw around, you should talk to your assistant Isabelle about putting either the Night Owl or Early Bird ordinance into place. Both ordinances are tailored to suit your play style: Under Night Owl, stores will stay open three hours later , and under Early Bird, they open three hours earlier. Either ordinance can be canceled or switched at any time.

Not Enough Things To Do At Night

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is unique in a number of different ways, but one of the most is its adherence to a real time calendar and clock. If its daytime while you are playing, then it is daytime in the game. Of course, this also means that nighttime is similarly quiet, with little to do. Shops can often close, though many wont early in the game to get you started. But lots of players wonder what to do at night in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
