Dust Off Your Animal Crossing Amiibo Cards

Animal Crossing: New Horizons – How to Add More Villagers to Your Town

All of those adorable Animal Crossing amiibo cards that you either just collected or have had on your shelf for a few years can finally be put to good use. All you need to know is how to use Animal Crossing amiibo.

Once the campsite has been built on your island, run to the Nook Stop kiosk and invite an animal to your campsite. You’ll then need to scan your amiibo by hovering it over the joystick on your right Joy-Con. Shortly thereafter, you’ll discover that a new camper has appeared on your island. Talk to them and convince them to move in.

Instead of playing games with them, you will need to convince them by crafting multiple items for them and inviting them back several days in a row. Make sure to talk to them multiple times while they are on your island. If you already have 10 villagers on your island then you’ll get to decide who gets removed to make way for the new resident. More on that later.

Wait For The Resident Services Upgrade

Next, you’ll need to work your way to upgrading the Resident Services building. It will happen automatically, but first you’ll need work through a few game milestones, which you can find below:

  • Invite more villagers to your island
  • Create your first bridge
  • Prepare plots for their arrival
  • Wait until the next day

Desert Island Getaway Tent

Cost: 5,000 Nook Miles

In true deserted island fashion, Tom Nook will initially set you up with a tent. Upgrading your tent to a house requires 5,000 Nook Miles, which you should easily be able to accrue in your first day playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Its worth getting this payment out of the way as soon as possible, as you wont have any access to storage until youve upgraded to a house.

Random Visitors At The Campsite

Can You Move Your House in Animal Crossing?

Things change once your island starts getting a bit more established. For instance, after you finally upgrade Resident Services from a tent to a proper building, you’ll eventually be able to set up a campsite for traveling villagers.

Talk to these guests while they’re visiting and you might be able to convince them to stay on the island. Campers might appear of their own volition or you can make one instantly appear by scanning their Animal Crossing amiibo card at the Resident Servics kiosk. A camper that just randomly appears behaves a little differently than one that gets summoned with an amiibo card.

Villagers that just randomly appear in the campsite will want to play games with you. This usually takes the form of a card game of some sort where you need to guess the color or the suite of the card that the villager is holding. You can earn items from them if you win these games.

Eventually you can even ask them to move in, however, they’ll only agree to it if you can win their games. You’ll need to talk to them multiple times to get to the point where you can suggest that they move in. However, if you already have 10 villagers, then the camper will decide who they want to boot from your island to make way for themselves.

Complete Some Of The House Upgrades

Before you can customize the exterior of your home, you’re going to need to unlock the ability to do so. For this, you’ll need to renovate your house first by expanding the size of your main room, and then by adding new rooms. Each room unlocked after the backroom addition unlocks new exterior customization options. You can purchase upgrades by speaking to Tom Nook in Resident Services. Each of these renovations costs a lot of Bells, each one more expensive than the last. Here’s a breakdown of what each upgrade will cost you:

    • Main room size upgrade: 198,000 Bells
    • Backroom addition: 348,000 Bells
    • Left room addition: 548,000 Bells
    • Right room addition: 758,000 Bells
    • Second floor addition: 1,248,000 Bells

In total, you’ll need to spend 3,100,000 Bells to get access to all of the different exterior customization options. This may sound difficult, and it definitely will be if you don’t focus your efforts on making Bells as quickly as possible. However, you can make enough sooner than you think if you play smart. Make sure to catch our guide to all of the different ways you can make money fast, and also our tips and tricks for getting rich off of Turnips. If you’re willing to put in the effort, you’ll hit that total before you know it.

Can You Move Houses Shops And Other Buildings

Thankfully the answer is a firm yes for most! The caveats are Resident Services, the dock, and the airport which cannot be moved. But you do get to choose right when villagers or shops arrive where they go, setting up their tent before the full building goes into place. So thats already a huge improvement, but what about after that? Once you made the choice, can you change it later? Again the answer is yes! And fans will surely rejoice over this.

However, there is a catch. First off, the ability unlocks very late in the game, many weeks in fact for most players. Youll need the full Resident Services building up and running with Isabelle inside. Speak with her and you can request a permit to move any building on the island. It is extremely costly though. Since the game just arrived we dont have the exact figures, but think tens of thousands of Bells to move any building around. We have some help there though, if you need more Bells.

Once you have the ability though, youre all set. Just head to Resident Services any time you want to move houses or anything else that is in your way. Combine this with terraforming and you can remake your island all the time however you want. Hopefully this answers the question of can you move houses, shops, and other buildings in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Can Isabelle Help Me Boot Out A Villager

Contrary to what it might seem, talking to Isabelle won’t make villagers leave. If you talk to her at Resident Services, there’s an option to Discuss a resident. If you select this option, you’ll be able to select one of your villagers and tell Isabelle that either the way they talk or the way they dress is upsetting you.

This is mainly there so that you can reset a character’s clothing or catchphrase in the event that someone gave them clothing with something inappropriate on it or taught them a rude phrase. Isabelle ensures that their clothes and catchphrase gets set back to the default option.

Animal Crossing New Horizons: House Upgrade Guide

I finally got a reader to use amiibo with animal crossing ...

Home is where the heart is, and that couldnt be more true than in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Upon arrival, your home will be little more than a tent. But Animal Crossing: New Horizons offers several house upgrades, adding new rooms and increased storage space for a fee, of course.

Whether its your first week with the game or youve been playing since day one, one of the core goals of Animal Crossing is paying off your house loan to raccoon overlord Tom Nook. It takes an overwhelming number of Bells to pay off every loan and can be a pretty daunting money sink. So in this guide, well tell you exactly how many Bells each upgrade requires, along with what each new renovation entails. Every house upgrade requires Bells, with the exception of the tent.

You can pay off your loan via the Nook Stop located in Resident Services. Simply go to the ABD, and the loan payment option should be there. Once youve paid off a house loan, talk to Tom Nook to get the next house upgrade. The renovation will be completed the following day.

    Best Villager Tent Location

    Close to Each Other Villagers

In addition to your own tent, it’s also possible to choose the placement of the other two starting villagers’ tents.

It’s a good idea to place the two villagers’ tents near each other. Since you’ll want to talk to each villager once a day to check if they have anything new to say.

It’s a lot more convenient if they’re near each other, so you won’t have to travel too far to reach them.

    Away from Resident Services

It might also be a good idea to avoid placing the other villagers’ tents too close to Resident Services.

Since Resident Services can’t be moved, it’s convenient to place other facilities, such as the Museum and the Shop, nearby instead, so it’s a good idea to save some space for those.

Using The Campsite And Amiibo Cards

If you’ve built the campsite and have Animal Crossing amiibo cards you can invite specific villagers to your island and hopefully convince them to move in. Thing is, if you already have 10 occupied houses on your island, then you’ll have to choose which of your current residents gets the boot to make way for the camper you’ve just invited.

Visiting campers can be really hard to convince, though. You’ll likely need to invite them to your island at least three times and craft souvenirs for them each day they visit. Make sure to check in with them multiple times each day to see if they’re willing to move in permanently. I had to invite Flora three days in a row and craft her some furniture each day, before she became interested in staying. But, then I was able to choose which of my villagers I kicked off of my island to make way for her.

Visit Other Islands Nook Miles Tickets

In order to recruit the first three villagers, you’ll need to have some Nook Miles Tickets. These can be bought for 2,000 Nook Miles each from the kiosk at Resident Services and only become available after the first day of play. When the tickets are in your inventory, run to the airport and tell Orville, the dodo behind the counter, that you want to explore another island.

While you’re exploring, you might come across a random animal NPC. Talk to them and invite them to live on your island. You might need to talk to them a few times before the invitation comes up.

Once the first three villager have been invited and you’re back on your island, Tom Nook asks you to scout out a plot of land for these newcomers . One of the new villagers you invited will appear on your island the day after you’ve completed setting up the new housing area. The other two will appear one day at a time after that.

How To Move Your House On Your Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island

How to Choose Your Villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

If you want to move your house to a new location, you first need to pay off all the NookMiles you owe your “landlord,” Tom Nook. This comes out to a total of 5,000 miles at first, which includes your fees for moving to the island. Once you’ve done that, you’ll have unlocked the game’s next important upgrade: the Resident Services building. Here, Tom Nook and the rest of the Resident Services team will offer additional ways for you to interact with the island, whether it’s expanding your home, customizing it, or, yes, relocating it.

If you choose the option to relocate, Tom Nook will give you the heads up on exactly how much it’ll cost you to do so. It’ll be a whopping 30,000 Bells if you know of another place you’d like to put your home. However, Tom won’t just move it because you ask nicely. You’ve got to put the cash up front if you want to see it somewhere else.

Of course, if another villager being too close to the home you’ve been painstakingly building is bothering you, you can simply ask to have their homes moved instead. It’ll cost an even prettier penny to have a villager’s home moved, however, at a whopping 50,000 Bells.

How Can I Get New Horizons New Villagers

    A few ways, in fact.

    Amiibo cards

Amiibo cards are not the only option, but they are one way to get the New Horizons villagers that you want. All the new villagers have been added as amiibo cards with the Series 5 set. These come in packs of six, with six random cards inside so you might have to buy a few to get your ideal villager, or trade with friends.

These work as they did in the past: You can invite villagers to your campsite by scanning their cards at the Nook Stop in Resident services. Even if you have open spaces on your island, however, youll need to convince them to move into your island by buying them stuff and having them visit randomly. Its a process, but Shino may be worth that effort for you.

    Nook Miles island hopping

One way to get new islanders is to use Nook Miles to visit mystery islands. Thats where youll find rogue characters wandering around its probably how you got your original villagers to move in. But you can use this technique with sheer time and luck to seek out specific villagers. It will likely require a lot of Nook Miles tickets for the Mystery Island Tours, unless youre lucky.

Once youve spotted the villager you want, you simply have to go up to them and ask them to move in. Theyll agree, so long as you have an open spot available.
