What Happens When You Swim Too Far? | Animal Crossing New Horizons

After youve enjoyed a nice walk around your islands rivers, lakes, or a lovely collusion inside an item youll likely want to escape at some point!

Youll find that theres no way to actually properly walk your way out of the water, so heres your three best options:

The easiest and least time consuming way of escaping this glitch is to simply call Rescue Services on your NookPhone. Unfortunately, this option will cost you 100 Nook Miles each time, so it might not be ideal if you find yourself using the glitch often.

Save & Quit With Minus Button: Itll cost you some more time, but you can always just hit the Minus Button on your controller to save and quit. When you return, youll be back outside your house as always in Animal Crossing.

Pick Up Item: In the case of colliding into an item and youre unable to escape by walking, you can simply press the Y Button to pick up the item back into your inventory in many scenarios.

How To Get A Wetsuit

Swimming In Animal Crossing: New Horizons: How It Works Sea Creatures And Diving

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

When I first told my daughter that we were going to be able to swim in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, she got excited that we were going to be able to use that pool sitting on my in-game deck. Nope! Such things are confusing to explain to toddlers, but we persist. Regardless, swimming has arrived in the game as of an update late last night, giving us arguably the biggest gameplay update since the game launched. Lets get into how it works.

To swim, youre going to need a wetsuit. To get your first wetsuit, head on over to Nooks Cranny and look in the cabinet where you find tools, seeds and the like. You can buy one for 3,000 bells, and if you dont like it you can get more through Nook Shopping and likely other sources. Youll also get a snorkel mailed to you, but thats only for style.

After that, youll need to don the wetsuit and head out over to the edges of your island. Hit A to hop in the water, and then hit A to keep paddling around. Youre doing it! Thats the bulk of it, and when it comes to vibing, youre already there.

How To Get A Wetsuit In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Before you can swim in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you need to get a wetsuit. The easiest way to do this is to head to Nooks Cranny. Visit the store cupboard inside the shop and youll find a wetsuit has been added to the items on the first page . Select this to have Timmy & Tommy tell you about how swimming works in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Theyll explain how to get into the sea and the controls once youre in there.

You can also purchase an arguably more stylish wetsuit from the Nook Shopping App or a Nook Miles Kiosk. Ours was selling the leaf pattern you see above. However, bear in mind that this will take a day to arrive, meaning you cant use it to swim in the sea immediately unless someone else splashes out and orders one from their catalogue as a gift for you.

Look For Sea Creatures

Swimming and diving are fun diversions on their own, but New Horizons has also introduced a brand new page of the Critterpedia for players to uncover in the form of sea creatures. These can only be found out in the ocean, and players must dive underwater to find them.

As you swim, youll see plenty of sea creatures approaching without actually seeing which creatures they are. Youll know theyre near when you see an accumulation of bubbles dotting the waters surface, at which time you can submerge and enter the underwater world. The camera will shift to a more vertical position, allowing you to see a shadow underwater. Position your islander on top of this dark spot, and theyll nab the unknown object, subjecting you to a whole new set of puns.

How To Catch Rare Fish And The Highest Fish Prices In Animal Crossing: New Horizons Explained

As you might expect, the rarer the fish, the higher the price it will sell for in the shop making for a welcome money making opportunity.

But as implied, even if you know the correct time and place of where they will appear, finding these fish are difficult requiring a dose of luck to appear, then some skill in catching them, especially as rarer fish tend to be more skittish when biting the lure.

If youre after rarer fish, especially to sell, there are some rules to follow:

  • If youre planning to make money, keep scanning the sea as its where most expensive larger fish can appear, so stick to the coast .
  • If a fish has a fin, its likely to be a shark and is one of the few fish types you can spot ahead of catching.
  • Though lures dont increase your chances, they will force a fish to appear in unusual locations, such as the pier saving you some effort in waiting.
  • Though rain is unconfirmed to increase numbers or chances of certain types of fish, the infamous Coelacanth will only appear when it rains which can give you an extra incentive to get out to the coast when it does.

Its worth adding though some fish can sell for up to 15,000 Bells each, the chances of catching enough to make it worth prioritising over other make money opportunities such as finding Tarantulas and Butterflies is unlikely. As a result, see fishing as more of a completionist exercise than a lucrative one!
