Animal Crossing New Horizons How To Use Amiibo

This is our guide on Amiibo in Animal Crossing New Horizons. In this guide, you will learn what Amiibo is, what they are used for in-game, and how to use them. Amiibo has been used in Animal Crossing New Leaf during the Welcome Amiibo update, and they allowed you to summon Villagers to your town that you could convince to stay in your town. It was always helpful for when you wanted your favorite Villagers to live in your town with you, and this time is no different.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Compatible Amiibo Cards

As stated above, the official Animal Crossing website has not been updated to list which Amiibo cards are compatible with Animal Crossing: New Horizons. However, the recent Direct for the game stated that the game supports Amiibo figures and Amiibo cards from the Animal Crossing series. They havent confirmed that all 400 Amiibo cards will work, but the video does show the following cards:

  • Mint
  • Bunny

Wed like to hope that all the Amiibo figures and Amiibo cards are supported so all your friends from previous titles can say hello! Well let you know as soon as Nintendo confirms exactly how it works.

Setting Up Photo Shoots With Amiibo Models On Harvey’s Island

Nintendo Animal Crossing Amiibo Series 1 Animal Crossing ...

Which amiibo can you invite to photo shoots on Harv’s Island? Most of the general and “Welcome Amiibo” Animal Crossing-specific cards and figures can be invited to your photo shoots – with the following exceptions :

  • Non-Animal Crossing-specific amiibo
  • Villager from Smash
  • Sanrio “Welcome Amiibo” cards
  • Some special character figures and cards

How many amiibo can you invite at once to a photo shoot? Feel free to scan up to 10 of your amiibo into the picture party!

What can you do with the amiibo once they’ve arrived at the shoot? Although we have yet to set up many photo shoots, it’s clear there is a lot of creative freedom here. From dressing up the characters, to positioning them on sets, to giving them emotions, we’re sure we’ll see some fantastic photos from players in the future. Unfortunately, these models are essentially ghosts of their characters, and cannot be interacted with directly by your player.

From Harv’s Island, you can also unlock posters of each of the scannable amiibo – even some of those characters who can’t come to the shoots – and purchase them for display in your home. And let us tell you – the designs are awesome, we want them all.

How To Scan Amiibo Cards For Getting Villagers And Sanrio Posters In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

1. To scan the Sanrio Amiibo Cards, you need the completely expanded service center.

2. Furthermore, you have to set up the campsite and have already received the first visitor to receive the Amiibo characters.

3. In order for great photos to be possible, you have to be able to visit Harveys Island. After a few days you will find Harvey roaming around your island. Speak to him and he will invite you to his island.

4. Go to the airport and speak to Wilbur at the ticket counter to fly to Harveys Island. He explains everything there about the photo mode and the premises in the Fotopia building.

5. You scan the Amiibo on the NookPortal in the service center. Places the Amiibo card or figure on the NFC contact field of the controller.

6. Amiibo figures and cards can be scanned by tapping to the Right Control Stick on Joy-Cons and the Nintendo Switch Lite, or tapping to the Nintendo Switch logo on the Pro Controller.

7. If the system has recognized the card or figure, you will receive a message and can then invite the visitor to your campsite. Visit him to chat personally with him.

This ACNH How to invite more villagers using Amiibo and Amiibo Cards explains each step to getting your favorite villagers to become residents on your island!

Inviting Campsite Visitors To Live On Your Island

So – once you’ve got your favourite villager camping on your island, how do you convince them to move in? This is where your patience will truly be put to the test. With any of the amiibo characters you scan to your campsite, it will take three separate tries – a minimum of three days in the game – to get them to move in.

And that’s not all it takes. On each of those days, you’ll need to follow multiple steps to get to the point of asking them to move in – be prepared to get turned down on the first two tries.

Each day, the process is similar: begin by speaking to the villager a couple of times until you trigger their request to craft them an item. The bonus here is that you’ll get a new recipe each time .

Craft the item they want before the day is through, as they’ll move out the very next day. Give them their item, and then talk to them a few more times – eventually, you’ll get the opportunity to ask them to move in. Again, the first two days you ask them to move, they’ll decline – but they’ll also allude to the fact that they would like to continue visiting.

Finally, on the third day of furniture-making servitude and humble begging, they’ll accept your invitation to move in. We recommend ensuring you purchase a lot from Tom Nook and set it up for their arrival prior to this exchange, to ensure they have a place to move in.

Invite Amiibo Characters To Stay At Your Campsite

After your Campsite opens and your first guest comes to visit you , youll be able to use the Nook Stop at Resident Services to invite campers to your campsite. Even if you can scan an amiibo , this doesnt necessarily mean that the character will show up at your Campsite.

You cant technically invite NPCs to the Campsite, but they will give you a special message. For example, Isabelle will appear with a message saying she cant go camping and that shes standing right in front of you, silly! Just like with Photopia, some NPCs will not appear and the game will tell you that theyre not available at the moment. These seem likely to be added later.

Villager amiibo cards also all scan in and will invited the villager to camp at your Campsite. However, based on our tests, we werent able to invite any of the amiibo card villagers to permanently move onto our island, even with plots open for them to move into. While the option to invite them does appear, they all declined, saying they had things to do at home.

Reports from other players have noted that the villagers will agree to move in after inviting them to the campsite three times, but we havent been able to confirm this yet.

Dont Have An Amiibo Card

How to use Amiibo Cards in Animal Crossing New Horizons

Inviting a camper that came to your Campsite randomly, rather than from an amiibo card, will also replace one of your villagers. You may have to talk to them multiple times for the option to come up, though. The camper will randomly pick a villager to boot out, so this is riskier, as they might ask if they can replace a villager you like.

Based on our tests, you can reset the game when the camper asks if they can replace somebody in order to get them to ask for somebody else.

Many players believe that ignoring your villagers or hitting them with bug nets will eventually prompt them to move off of your island, but nothing has ever confirmed this long-standing Animal Crossing rumor.

Some also believe complaining about the resident to Isabelle at Resident Services will also encourage them to leave, but this feature is used to reset their clothes or catchphrases, not for booting villagers.

If you were lucky enough to score the highly sought after Animal Crossing Sanrio Amiibo Cards from Target in late March, you might be wondering how to use Animal Crossing Amiibo Cards on Switch. Although Amiibos have been around for a while, they arent always readily available in stores, so you may not have been able to get your hands on them until recently. Luckily, the game makes it pretty easy to add in your characters and items, but youll need a few pointers to get started.

If youve got Amiibo Cards and are ready to start adding different characters to your island, heres what to do.

Use The Nookstop Kiosk At Resident Services

Once the new villager has moved in, head back to Resident Services and talk with Tom Nook. He’ll tell you that he wants to bring even more villagers to the island. Now, run over to the Nook Stop kiosk and interact with it. He’ll tell you that you can now use Animal Crossing amiibo cards to invite more villagers to the island. Just note that you can only have one camper per day.

Harvs Island And The Amiibo Photoshoots

The first way you can utilise your Animal Crossing amiibo collection with New Horizons is through a dog character known as Harvey or Harv to his friends, of which there are few. Youll find him loitering around the Resident Services tent in the early days of island life. Youll recognise him because hes dressed like a hippy. He tells you that you can visit his island handily named Harvs Island whenever you want. Just head over to the airport and you can ask to visit Harvs Island.

Its here that you discover Harvs Island is actually called Photopia, and Harv is actually a photographer and has a photography studio here on the island. Head inside the building and you can use your amiibo and amiibo cards to summon rather strange zombie-like versions of characters to pose for photoshoots.

Its quite limited, but if you want to have a little fun with old favourites, its easy to do and travelling to and from Harvs Island is free it wont cost bells or Nook Miles. Plus, from the next calendar day, youll unlock a purchasable poster version of anyone you invite to Photopiain in the Special Goods section of Nook Shopping from the Nook Stop terminal, which you can then hang on the wall of your home.

Repeat The Process Two More Times

Although you’ve fulfilled their request, you can’t ask the character to move to your island just yet. You’ll need to invite them back to your campsite two more times and fulfill more requests before they decide to move in.

Since you can only invite a specific character to the campsite once per day, the entire process will take at least three days before they’ll finally agree to move in .
