How To Remove Villagers And Make Them Leave In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Maybe you’ve had enough of their personality or maybe you just don’t like their face , either way, at some point a villager you don’t like might move onto your island.
It’s important to note that discussing a resident with Isabelle in Residential Services does not work towards evicting a villager. Instead, this simply allows you to reset a villagers catchphrase or clothing if you no longer like what they’re wearing or saying. Ignoring villagers and hitting them with a net also won’t encourage them to leave.
Getting rid of villagers in New Horizons is a tricky process that mostly revolves around chance and waiting for villagers to decide that they want to leave. We do, however, have a couple tips that will help you control your island’s population.
Look for villagers with thought bubbles above their heads
At some point you’ll find one of your villagers walking around with a puzzled expression on their face and a thought bubble floating above their head.
If you talk to them, there’s a chance they’ll explain that they’re considering moving. During this conversation, you’ll have the chance to encourage them to either leave or stay.
If you tell them to stay, then they’ll continue living on your island as if nothing has ever happened. Telling them to leave, however, will cause them to pack up their house the next day, followed by them leaving their island and creating an empty plot of land.

Losing An Animal Crossing Villager Can Be Sad
This decision is made a little bit easier if one;Animal Crossing: New Horizons;villager happens to be more annoying than all the others, or if the player simply doesn’t care about the feelings of the fictional animals. For players who grow attached to their;Animal Crossing;neighbors, however, having to say goodbye can be a sad experience – one made even sadder if the villager who shows up to replace them turns out to be even worse than the one before, or if the;Animal Crossing;villager wants to move away themselves but the player wants them to stay.
While ten villagers doesn’t seem like enough to stimulate the entire economy of an island it does make sense to have some sort of cap on;Animal Crossing’s available villager numbers. If all 397;Animal Crossing;villagers were allowed to live on the same island at once, it would be quite a cramped arrangement. Until;New Horizons offers players some sort of DLC which will increase the final size of a player’s island in;ACNH they will have to be content with picking and choosing between ten;Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers at a time.

Villagers can also be seen in buildings, like the school and shops.

How To Make Villagers Leave
If, for some reason, youâd like to downsize, villagers will leave if you’re rude to them. Ignore them, hit them with your net, do just about anything to make them feel unwanted, and they will eventually say goodbye forever. It’s one of the many ways that Animal Crossing: New Horizons resembles real life.
Alternatively, once youâve upgraded Resident Services enough to bring Isabelle in, you can complain to her directly about a resident. Complain enough, and theyâll be forced to leave the island.
Now with all this information, proceed into the great unknown to populate and manage your island.

Actions That Change Friendship Level
How To Increase Friendship Level
- Talk to them
- Send a letter and get a reply
- Give a present
- Give them an item they want
- Do favors for them
How To Decrease Friendship Level
- Give them garbage or weeds
- Hit them with a Net repeatedly
- Push them
There are no benefits of lowering a villager’s friendship level. It has no effect on whether or not a villager moves off of your island, so we encourage you not to bully your poor animals. If there’s a Villager you don’t like, simply have them move away!

Getting a new villager:
Once your villager decides to leave, theyll first pack up their bags. At this point, theres nothing to do but say goodbye. The next day, their house will be an empty lot: this is when you move.
When the empty lot is on your island, you can get a nook miles ticket and travel to a mystery island. You should see a new potential villager hanging out on that island. Take stock of them, maybe google them, and decide whether or not you want them to come to your island. If you dont like them, just head back to the airport and go to a new island for a new villager.
There is a way to get a villager of your choosing, but its tough. You need to encounter a villager on another island on the day that theyre packing up their boxes, about ready to leave. At that point, you can invite them. To do this right, you either need to coordinate with a friend or a stranger. Nookazon, which is like Amazon but for Animal Crossing, has a black market where people buy and sell villagers for millions of bells. Its a bit creepy.

Do I Need To Have All 8 Personalities On My Island
No, you dont. There are some benefits to having all 8 personalities, such as unlocking all of the reactions as well as easily getting all the villager-crafted DIYs. The game also encourages personality diversity by personality-locking your first 6 villagers:
- Villagers 1 and 2 are Jock and Uchi
- Villagers 3-5 are Peppy, Normal, and Lazy
- Villager 6 is Smug
That said, theres no requirement to do this, and you should have the villagers on your island that you enjoy the most!

How To Get More Villagers In Animal Crossing
Two villagers doesnt make an island. If you want more friends, youll need to use some Nook Miles Tickets to visit other deserted islands. The main player on the Switch will encounter a single villager on the mystery island. They can be invited to your island simply by talking to them. Youre under no obligation to do so, however. If its not someone you want to settle down with, dont invite them.
You have to do this three times before any of them can actually move onto your island.
Once youve invited three villagers, Tom Nook will talk to you about placing down their houses and ask you to prepare for their arrival. Each will also need three interior and three exterior items so they arent moving into a completely empty building.
After youve done this and Resident Services has been upgraded to the full building, instead of the tent it starts off in, you can pay Nook to create plots of land for future residents. That way, if you invite villagers to come live on your island, theyll already have a place to go.
At this point, Nook will also ask you to build a campsite. This is where villagers can come visit your island. You can talk to them repeatedly until you get a chance to encourage or discourage them from settling on the island.
