Breeding Flowers In Animal Crossing
Some flowers can’t be purchased, acquired, or grown naturally. They need to be bred in order to grow. Otherwise, Animal Crossing players will miss out on a lot of flowers that can really spice up their islands.
Every player has a native flower on their island. This will vary, but the flowers that don’t grow natively can be acquired in a few ways. Players can visit an island that has them and get them or have seeds mailed to them from a friend who has them.
For lilies, there are a few options when breeding them. Red and red lilies will breed and produce black lilies. Yellow and red lilies will produce orange, and the combination of red and white lilies will produce pink.
My mom got a bunch of lilies from somewhere since last year and now they’re all blooming and they’re a bunch of different colors but they’re all ones that are also in Animal Crossing so it’s like, Wow, Just Like My Video Games!

For roses, there are a lot more options. Red and white will produce pink roses. Purple and red will produce a hybrid pink. Hybrid pink and yellow will create a hybrid red. Hybrid red and hybrid red will produce hybrid blue. Black roses that are watered with a golden watering can result in gold roses. Hybrid colors are a different shade than the original.
How To Care For Your Flowers
To achieve the best result when breeding flowers in acnh, it is important to have a good and efficient layout. For this reason it is also important to know the difference between breeding and cloning. When you breed flowers there are two or more flowers involved with different genetics. Breeding them will mix their genes and make an offspring. When cloning a flower there is only one flower that will be making an exact copy of itself . Lets take a closer look at the two methods.

Looking to grow some rare hybrid flowers?
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the latest instalment in the series, and the first to come to Nintendo Switch. One of many things that players can engage with is flower breeding this results in various hybrid flowers that will brighten up any island!

First and foremost, there are eight types of flowers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons for you to plant and breed. They are Cosmos, Pansies, Lilies, Hyacinths, Mums, Windflowers, Tulips, and Roses. Your island will naturally have one type of native flower, but you can buy the seeds for other species and colours from Nooks Cranny.
You can also find new types of flowers on Mystery Islands, which you can dig up and pocket to take home with you to your island! That is, unless, you have a friend on New Horizons who is kind enough to help you with acquiring all the different flower species and colour variations.
For example, to breed pink flowers, you will want to have red and white flowers nearby to each other. Red and yellow flowers will spawn orange ones, while pairing red with red will spawn black flowers. For blue flowers, you will need to pair white flowers together.

The Basics Of Flowers In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Its essential to understand the basics of flowers before diving breeding them. The nuance of how flowers grow can trip you up at first.
Every island starts with a native flower that grows from the very first day. The flower is one of the games eight common flowers: Cosmos, Hyacinths, Lilies, Mums, Pansies, Roses, Tulips, and Windflowers.
You can acquire other common flowers by purchasing them from the store. Your options will expand as you upgrade the store from the Resident Services Tent to the final, expanded Nooks Cranny. Heres what you can expect from each upgrade.
- Resident Services Tent: Three types of seed, three types of flower, one color each
- Nooks Cranny: Six types of seed, three types of flower, two colors each
- Nooks Cranny : Nine types of seeds, three types of flower, three colors each
Flowers may also be gifted to you as presents, sold at particular vendors , or appear in the wild on Mystery Islands.
The most reliable alternative way to expand your flower selection is to visit islands owned by other players. Each islands store will offer something different on any given day. If your friends dont play Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you can turn to community sources, like Turnip Exchange or Reddit, to find players providing access to their island.
Flower Hybrid Color And Crossbreeding Charts
Below you will find all 8 types of flowers, and the color combinations that can result in new flower colors. Remember that some appear more rare than others, and it may take many tries before getting certain colors. It also seems that the colors can be affected by the parent flowers history – if it was grown from a seed, transplanted from a Mystery Island, or grown from other hybrids. Sometimes even if a flower is a basic color, its hybrid parents may have passed on genes to give it a chance at cross-pollinating something else.
What You Can Buy At Leifs Flower Shop
When Leif visits your island with his Flower Shop at Resident Services, he sells two different types of items you can purchase Bushes or Shrubs and Flower Seeds!
New Bushes Or Shrubs Sold By Leif
As far as we know, buying Bushes or Shrubs from Leif is the only way to get bush items in the game at this time. So be sure to purchase lots of bushes from Leif when you spot him on your island or it could be a while until you get another chance!
There are currently 11 different types of Bushes available to get in Animal Crossing: New Horizons with 6 different unique varieties. Leif will typically sell the type of bushes that are currently in-season on your island, plus a secondary type of bushes selected randomly.
Rare Flower Seeds Sold By Leif
In addition to his exclusive bushes, you can buy a variety of Flower Seeds or Bulbs from Leifs Flower Shop when he visits your island! While you can already purchase flower seeds and bulbs from the cabinet at Nooks Cranny normally, the seeds sold by Leif are a little more special.
As youve likely already experienced, each unique Animal Crossing: New Horizons island tends to have a set of flower types that are available far more commonly for sale at Nooks Cranny than others.

Native Flowers And Sister Flowers
The flower stock at Nook’s Cranny will rotate each day, with three types of flowers available at any given time. As mentioned above, your island will have one type of native flower this flower is always in stock at Nook’s Cranny. You’ll also have a sister flower, which will also always be in stock. The third flower in stock on any given day is determined by which month it is and can change each day within that month. For example, in the Northern Hemisphere, roses, tulips, and windflowers are all in season in May. If none of these are your native or sister flower, they’ll take turns being in stock at Nook’s Cranny each day in May.
According to datamined information, native flowers are determined at random based on which flowers are in season during your starting character’s birth month, while your sister flower is one of the flowers that were in season during the month you started your island. If you aren’t sure what your sister flower is, visit a few Mystery Tour islands you can only encounter your native flower or your sister flower on these islands.

No Animal Crossing: New Horizons island would be complete without a dash of floral colour. Breed Orange B And Purple B
|Purple B = Orange C|
When you have enough Orange Bs, start making Orange Cs by breeding with Purple Bs . Since Orange Cs are very rarely born from Purple As, it’ll be easy to locate pairs that don’t produce Orange Cs and remove them.
Things To Note When Planting
If a new flower spawns diagonally in a location near another pair, it will be impossible to determine which pair it came from! For this reason, we recommend building fences or setting up custom designs in order to be absolutely sure what pair each flower spawns from! Follow the design in the above and you won’t go wrong.
Frequently Replace Purples
In this case, flowers with dirt placed under them indicate that an Orange C was successfully spawned!
We recommend doing something to mark the spots where an Orange B and Purple produce an Orange C. If one pair doesn’t seem to produce Orange Cs after a while, replacing that pair’s purple with another Purple you’ve been making on the side!

How To Breed All Hybrid Flowers In Animal Crossing New Horizons
I love the new Animal Crossing New Horizons game for Nintendo Switch! This guide will bring out your inner botanist-gamer by showing you how to breed every hybrid flower in the game!
To breed flowers, plant them nearby each other and water them daily while in bloom . A day or so later, you can see a new plant sprouting up nearby. That’s the basic idea! To be most sure of the genetics of the resulting flower, plant only two of the same type near each other. Flowers can breed with any other flower in its perimeter, including diagonally , so giving them space maximizes your chance of success. Flowers without a neighbor will clone. For this reason, I have planned-out “color cloning gardens” with various breeds in the same color.
Native flower genetics can vary within the same color , so it’s important to start your breeding experiments with seeds.
TIP: Invite your friends over to water! Each new friend who waters a flower will boost its likelihood of reproducing that day. You’ll see gold sparkles when five friends have watered.
How To Breed Hybrid Flowers
Now that you know the basics of flower planting, it’s time to breed them. The process is actually really simple. As seen in this picture, all you have to do is arrange a 3×3 grouping of flowers like so. Think of the arrangement like the dots of a five on a standard die. Make sure to leave an empty space in between your plants, because that’s where its offspring will spawn. The color of the hybrid you get depends on the colors of the flowers situated next to each other. In this example, the row of red and white roses on top is most likely to spawn pink roses in the center.
Here are the basic rules of coloring.
- Pink: White + Red
- White: Yellow + Purple
- Black: Red + Red
As with most natural breeding processes, there’s ample room for variations and randomization. Here are some of the more adventurous and lucrative combos.
- Black Cosmos: Orange + Orange
- Special Red Pansies: Blue + Red
- Purple Pansies: Red Special + Red Special / Orange Special + Orange Special
- Special Orange Pansies: Blue + Orange
- Pink Roses: Red + Red

Crossbreed To Make Purple & Orange Roses
White Rose x White Rose = Purple Rose
To get a Purple Rose, you need to crossbreed two White Roses together. You’ll want to get a lot of purples, so take your time on this step.
Yellow Rose x Red Rose = Orange Rose
Orange Roses can be grown by crossbreeding a Yellow Rose and Red Rose together. Just like with the purples, you’ll want to have a lot of these!
Relocate New Flowers
The more Purples and Oranges you have, the more efficient your operation will be. As soon as one of these blooms, relocate it to a separate space immediately and start work there!
