How To Get Floating Presents In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Floating presents appear randomly sailing past your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, so don’t miss your chance to get them. All you need to pop that balloon and send that gift down to earth is a slingshot! You can buy a Slingshot from Resident Services for 900 bells, or you can get the blueprint for it for 300 bells. However to build the slingshot you’ll need 5 hardwood, which is pretty hard to get. First you’ll need to craft yourself an axe and then smash some trees around your island until one of them gives you some hardwood instead of softwood.
Whether you buy the slingshot outright or craft it to save some bells, you’ll then have to shoot down the balloon. The best way to shoot down the balloon is to see which way it’s drifting over your island and then stand directly under it. The balloon’s shadow on the ground should help, stand just in front of it and use the slingshot to shoot directly upwards. If you get it right down comes a present just for you!
Watch out though, because presents can fall into rivers, lakes, ponds or the sea and be lost forever! So be careful when trying to get floating presents in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. For any other help with your new island life, check out some of our other guides.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons Balloon Conclusions
So, after wearing out our slingshot, we can now say the following:
- Yellow Balloons are likely to give you bells
- Blue has the chance to drop resources
- Green appears to have no clear prioritisation
- Red appears to favour Furniture, although more data is needed
Before we started this guide we had plenty of ideas as to which balloons dropped which items. Was it based on their color? The cost of the item? The time of day it dropped? As you can see above, none of that really seems to be the case, although we still have theories we’d like to test. For example, one thing we’re curious about is if its possible that green or red balloons possibly give you new items that youve never had in your possession before .
Rest assured we’ll update this guide with any new information as it surfaces, or falls from the sky. In the meantime, happy balloon hunting!

How To Get The Floating Balloon Presents In Animal Crossing New Horizons Using A Slingshot
Animal Crossing veterans will know all about how to get these presents down, but newcomers will find a clue in the fact that it’s floating on a balloon. Balloons are fragile, and so you simply have to hit it with some ordinance to bring the present down to earth.
Once it lands, you can pick it up, unwrap it, and enjoy what’s inside. That is most often furniture, but balloon presents can also be cold, hard cash, too, ideal for paying off your loan to Tom Nook. Unwanted presents can, of course, be sold to the Nook’s Cranny shop once it opens or gifted to fellow island dwellers to up your relationship with them.
In order to shoot the balloons and get the floating presents you’ll need a Slingshot. The slingshot first appears for sale when Nook’s Cranny opens, so if you haven’t got the shop yet you’ll need to progress the island and build that shop. Once it opens, Timmy and Tommy will be selling both already-created Slingshots for 900 Bells and the recipe to create them for a little more.
Longer-term, it’s worth getting the recipe – it’ll save you money, as crafting a slingshot only uses up 5 hard wood – it doesn’t require any iron nuggets or anything like that. Slingshots have limited durability, so like other key tools they will eventually break.

Balloon Spawn Times And Patterns
Regular Balloons Spawn Every 5 Minutes
Regular balloons, which appear in colors of red, green, yellow, and blue, appear every 5 minutes in multiples of 5. For example, a balloon will spawn at 7:00, another one will appear at 7:05, then 7:10, and so on.
Balloons during events such as Bunny Day will appear more frequently, spawning each minute, and they move faster than regular balloons.

Advanced Tips For More Floating Presents
You cant ‘farm’ floating presents by forcing them to appear. However, if youre interested in maximizing your gains, you can improve your chances with a better understanding of how and when they appear.
- Floating presents only appear on your island’s eastern and western shores, and they follow an east-to-west flight path. You can improve the odds of spotting a present by searching your islands eastern and western shores.
- Presents switch the side on which they appear on a 12-hour, night-an-day cycle. In other words, if you see a floating present appear on the eastern side of your island during the day, you can expect additional ones to appear on the east side until that night.
- Time matters, as well. Floating presents appear at times that end in a 4 or 9, such as 3:24 or 3:29. Itll take about a minute for the present to reach the shore of your island. Theyre not guaranteed to appear at these times, however.
- Floating presents wont appear if you have a visitor on your island.

How To Catch A Shark In New Horizons
Catching a shark in the game is really no different than catching any other fish. However, there’s a distinct shadow that a shark makes that will distinguish it between any others. They all spawn in the ocean, so take a run around and look for the following shadow:
Once you find one of those, then just go ahead and fish for it as normal and you will hopefully have yourself a shark! There’s two other fish that will sometimes come out of the water from this shadow. These are the Ocean Sunfish and the unfortunate Suckerfish. The Suckerfish is going to be far more common, so you’ll just have to hope you end up with one of the larger fish to get more money!
