Sea Creatures can be found in the ocean, though youll need to dive down to find them. Each type can be found throughout the ocean, whether thats close to the shore or a little further away. Its worth noting that some creatures will try to speed away from you a little faster than others, with faster critters usually being the rare types.
Pearls that can be used in Mermaid DIY recipes can also be found by diving so hold on to those when you find them.

The Basics Of Swimming & Diving
Before you head out to hunt these tricky animals, it’s important to understand the basic swimming and diving mechanics. Getting in the water is simple enough just press the A button while at the water’s edge and wearing a wetsuit. Once in the water there are two different swimming speeds. Tapping the A button while in the water will make you swim quickly, whereas moving the analog stick without any other input lets you swim slowly. This will be your key to catching fast sea creatures.
When you’re ready to dive, press the Y button to shoot down to the ocean floor. It’s here that you’ll find all the sea creatures in the game.
Move Slowly To Catch Sea Creatures
For speedy sea creatures, locating this stream of bubbles is important. But don’t move to fast! Speedy creatures will move away from you if approached to quickly. Instead, simply move the analog stick without tapping the A button to slowly approach the bubbles. Continue to do this under you are directly over the bubble stream.
Once you are positioned directly above the bubbles, now you’re free to dive underwater. If done properly you should automatically grab your prey if not, you should be able to close the gap underwater before your target starts to flee. It might take a few tries to get it right, but it doesn’t take long to get the hang of the new mechanic.

Animal Crossing New Horizons: How To Catch Sea Creatures
Animal Crossing: New Horizons first summer update is finally live. While its not quite summer for those of us in the Southern Hemisphere, we do get the new update and every feature involved. The first of these is diving, a returning mechanic from past games which allows players to dive into the ocean and hunt for sea creatures. Heres how diving works and how you can catch every critter.
If your game hasnt automatically updated, youll need to click the + button and manually select software update via the internet to get started. Youll know you have the latest version if Isabelles morning announcements include a description of the new diving activity.
To get started, youll need to head to Nooks Cranny and purchase a wet suit for 3,000 bells.
From there head to a beachfront, pier or overhanging rock and you can dive directly into the water using the A button. I recommend diving off the pier it produces a very satisfying splash.
Once youre in the water, you can swim freely using A to push forward. You can hold A to doggy paddle, it does tend to be quite slow, so mashing A constantly is your best option for moving around easily.
As you explore, youll notice bubbles rising to the surface.
These are sea creatures you can capture for your collection.
Theres also another cool surprise for players who catch scallops in their travels.
Will Cj Buy Sea Creatures
Animal Crossing: New Horizons players can now go diving for new sea creatures. Like fish and bugs, certain sea critters only appear during certain seasons and times of the day. Sea creatures are a separate type of critter from fish, meaning that C.J. will not buy them from you nor will he turn them into models.

Jamming On The Buttons
While the above technique of sneaking up on your prey is the most efficient way to catch speedy sea creatures, you do have another option. It doesn’t work all the time, but it is possible to chase your target into a corner and catch them once they have no where else to go. This strategy is less than ideal, but if you don’t feel like being sneaky it’s a valid option.
There’s no set formula for pulling this off properly, but the idea is to approach the sea creature in a way that will force them to move towards the outer boundaries of the sea. Here, they’ll encounter a rocky barricade. Certain sections of the barricade have small gaps that only have one way in or out if you can guide a sea creature towards these areas, they have no where to go but into your arms.
How To Catch The Fast Sea Creatures In Animal Crossing
Some of the sea creatures in the new Animal Crossing: New Horizons update are quicker than fish and harder to catch. Here’s how to capture them fast.
The new summer update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons introduced a group of brand-new sea creatures for players to catch using the new swimming and diving mechanic. Players must dive for these creatures in the waters around their islands. Many of these creatures, like the Giant Isopod or Gigas Giant Clam, are rather fast and will swim away faster than a player can dive down to capture them. This can lead to some frustration, especially if players miss a creature to add to their museum collection. Some of the faster creatures are also worth the most bells each Giant Isopod is worth 12,000. Because of this, players should know how to catch them before they get away.
Players can control the speed at which their character swims, and this control is what will help them catch faster and more elusive sea creatures. While intuition suggests players move quickly, the opposite is often true. Players will need to approach these creatures slowly so as not to scare them away. Here’s how to capture the quickest sea critters in Animal Crossing: New Horizons so players can get the most out of the new in-game diving mechanic.

What Are Sea Creatures In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Sea Creatures, as the name suggests, are critters you can find at the bottom of the ocean by diving. They have their own Critterpedia page, despite most of them being fish.
Once the Museum is open on your island, you will also have the ability to donate your catches. While you won’t receive any rewards for donating them, your Museum will begin to look pretty neat once it begins to fill up with new finds.
If collecting isn’t your thing and you’re after some extra cash, sea creatures can be sold for Bells. While some critters will be worth more than others, players can use these Bells to purchase furniture and other useful items such as tools.
How To Catch Sea Creatures In Animal Crossing: New Horizons Explained
If you want to start collecting sea creatures in New Horizons, then you first need to purchase a wetsuit. Wearing one of these will allow you to venture out into the sea surrounding your island.
Once you’re amongst the waves, swim around until you see a series of bubbles rising from the sea floor.
Head over to these bubbles and then begin to dive. As you do so, the camera angle will shift, giving you an overhead view of the sea, which will allow you to see a shadow sitting on the sea bed.
This shadow is the sea creature you’re hunting you and, to catch it, you need to manoeuvre your avatar over to the creature.
If you do this correctly, then you’ll automatically swim back to the surface to display your catch, which can then be found in your inventory.
Good luck on finishing the sea creature Critterpedia page!
