You time travel in Animal Crossing New Horizons by closing the software and proceeding to the Nintendo Switchs System Settings.
Once youre in the Settings, scroll down to System and advance to Date and Time.
Pokémon Legends Arceus: A familiar region. A new story.
If you want to time travel into the future, all you need to do is change the date and time to a specific month, year, and/or time before reality.
Meanwhile, if you want to time travel into the past, you just do the exact same but prior to realitys current date and time.
Animal Crossing: Pros & Cons Of Time Traveling In New Horizons
Probably the biggest detrimental consequence of time traveling involves whether or not a player has purchased turnips from Daisy Mae, the young boar who shows up every Sunday until noon, and who somehow makes a runny nose look adorable. Turnips are a big money-maker if a player is lucky enough to sell them for a high price at Nooks Cranny, but Animal Crossing: New Horizons time traveling can spoil them, making them worthless. This is guaranteed to happen if a player travels backwards at all. Going forward a couple days is typically harmless, but traveling to the following Sunday or further will ruin them, and users who are trying to make a profit are better off refraining altogether to avoid the risk. Cockroaches can also appear in ones house when time traveling, as they do if a user hasnt played for a while, but they cant be donated to the museum. Players can simply step on cockroaches to get rid of them. More weeds or a packed mailbox can also happen, but more discerning is the upset neighbors who will feel neglected and have a lowered villager friendship level with the player if too much time passes between engaging with them.
What You Should Watch Out For
Be careful when time traveling. Huge jumps can cause problems sometimes.
At the Nook Stop, you get a streak bonus of extra Nook miles for checking in every day, but time traveling may well undo your streak. If you have turnips and time travel more than a few days, your turnips will go bad.
Depending on how far into the past or future you time travel, cockroaches may appear in your house, which can be removed by stepping on them. Lastly, depending on your relationships with your islands residents, time-traveling can make residents unhappy or even leave your island altogether.

One Last Tip From A Seasoned Time Traveler
If you do decide to time travel, the biggest piece of advice I can offer is make a daily checklist. This game is designed to be played daily, with things to do at any time of day. All those things might not be a priority for you, but it’s easy to forget about some, especially the sporadic visitors who have no schedule to when they show up.
If you’re skipping ahead to catch specific fish only available in the daytime, but aren’t looking around at night, you’re going to miss out on visits from Celeste. If you’re not checking your secret beach for Jolly Redd’s Treasure Trawler, your art gallery is going to suffer.
So, make a list of everything you want to do each day. Each day you skip ahead, check off each of those things.
Time Travel And Stalk Market
Timmy and Tommy’s turnip buying prices are randomized every day, and are randomized again if you turn back time to buy more turnips and return – making it impossible to make a time traveller’s killing on the stalk market. At least, in your own game.
How To Change In
To do this, well have to change the Switchs system clock, so this will be affecting more than just the game itself.
If thats something that doesnt both you a whole lot, then keep on reading on for how to get this done.
There are a variety of steps players will have to take. First things first, players should save their game and exit out completely.
Once this is done, head to the main menu of your Switch and follow these steps:
- Head to the System Settings on the home screen and scroll down to System.
- Choose Date and Time, and turn off the setting that says Synchronize Clock via Internet.
- Change the date and time to whatever you choose
- Open the game back up and see whats new about your island
Its important to note that if you go too far ahead in the future, you island dwellers will begin to wonder where you went, so try not to mess around and change things too much.
For example, jumping forward a year might cause your island to be overrun with weeds and all of your residents have a chance of being gone. Nobody wants that to happen to all of their hard work, so thats something to be aware of.
What you wont be able to do with this method is experience the various seasonal events. Instead, these will be introduced via a game update, as the developers dont want people jumping all around the year and seeing everything the game has to offer immediately.
We dont want to have you to have to delete your entire island and start over, do we?
Time Travel And The Money Tree
You can combine the above cheat with the Time Travel Money Tree cheat to make a total of 396,000 bells in one trip! Here’s how you do it. It requires you to already have at least 99,000 Bells. Remember to make sure your clock is not synced to the internet.
- Set your clock to the year 2000
- Put 99,000 Bells in your Pocket
- Find the glowing spot, dig it up but do not close it!
- Bury 99,000 Bells into the hole .
- Save and exit. Close the software completely.
- Change your clock to the year 2060 same date .
- Head for your tree and get 3 bags with 99K bells each plus some 99K of interest! .
The big drawback to this hack, compared to the interest one, is it’s easier to make an error. And because you can’t use the same date it could become a lot to keep track of. Lastly, sometimes it takes a few minutes to find the glowing spot, go to the bank, etc.

What Happens If You Time Travel
While we neither condemn nor condone time manipulation in Animal Crossing, we do caution that there are many varied in-game consequences to these types of actions.
- Cash Money: Make more Bells with interest on saved money in your ABD
- Event Attendance: Skip ahead to events in the future – such as KK Slider concerts, birthdays, or upcoming fishing tournaments
- Expedited Mail: Get items in the mail more quickly
- Finish Things Faster: Speed up the process of new villagers moving in, fruit regrowing on trees, renovations & upgrades to buildings, trees and flowers growing, etcetera
- Shopping Spree: Access new items and inventory at shops on different days
- Seasonal Sporting: Access other times of the year to catch out-of-season fish and bugs
- Early Birds & Night Owls: Adjust time of day to access things that may be closed, such as shops
- Eviction Notice: Get rid of those villagers you despise much more quickly by ignoring them for days on end, until they finally decide to pack up and leave
- Trashed turnips: Time traveling backwards, or forwards to the upcoming Sunday and beyond, will automatically spoil any turnips in your possession
- Neglected neighbors: Time traveling multiple days at once puts you at risk of losing some of your residents, as they begin to feel ignored – again, this can be a plus if you’re looking to ditch some unwanted villagers, but you won’t necessarily have control over which ones leave if you travel too far

Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Leaf Changes Are Noticeable In October
The late-October leaf color changes may be disappointing to dedicated decorators, but it’s in line with ACNH’s emphasis on time’s passing. Many activities are restricted to daily cycles, with no way to accelerate the game’s progression without manipulating the Nintendo Switch’s clock, and the same can be said for Animal Crossing‘s fall. It happens when it happens, and players can only plan around that.
The changing of Animal Crossing’s leaves also matches up with events besides Halloween. Animal Crossing’s Mushroom season begins November 1, during which players can collect mushrooms growing beneath trees. These can then be used in recipes only collectible during that time. Similarly, Maple Leaf season begins November 16 and ends November 25. Players can find leaves on the ground and shake trees for extra rewards.
Decorating for Halloween and fall should occupy Animal Crossing: New Horizons players for the immediate future. Later October and November will bring vibrant colors to Animal Crossing’s islands, rewarding players with a spectacular aesthetic to celebrate the season.
In Animal Crossing: Wild World
When changing the time in Wild World, players can select between two options. The first is the in-game method where players at the character select can click the phone and follow the option that goes to the Date and Time settings. The other is changing DS time. Depending on the DS model, the menu that allows you to adjust time and date will differ. The highest the players can time travel to is December 31, 2099, after which time will reset back to January 1, 2000.
How To Change The Nintendo Switch Date And Time
You can Time Travel by changing your Nintendo Switch Date and Time, just make sure the clock is not synced to the internet first! Heres how to do it.
In Animal Crossing: City Folk
As in Animal Crossing, there are two options to change the date and time settings for Animal Crossing: City Folk. The easier option is to change the Wii date and time instead of the in-game date and time settings. This is again due to the in-game settings affecting the bank interest, plants and trees. The highest time can go towards is December 31, 2035 once the Countdown commences, time loops back to January 1, 2000.

Yes You Can Time Travel And Change The Clock In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Theres been a lot of speculation and concern for months now around whether Animal Crossing: New Horizons still allows you to change the games real-time clock, mostly thanks to a French interview last year about cloud saves.
Now that the review embargo has passed and media have been able to share plenty of information on their experiences with the game, we can confirm that time traveling has returned in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and its certainly still possible to change the in-game clock.
A number of different reviewers have noted time traveling, but the IGN review for Animal Crossing: New Horizons is probably the best source as the author details how they personally time traveled ahead and exactly how she did so.
Notably, it seems that there isnt actually any in-game clock change settings inside Animal Crossing: New Horizons or at least none of the reviews have mentioned one. What youll instead need to do is change the system clock of your entire Nintendo Switch system to the date and time of your choosing.
According to IGN, you can accomplish a system clock time change that works in New Horizons by following these simple steps below:
Complete your daily goals and talk to Tom Nook. Save your game. Enter the Switch System Settings menu and scroll down to System. Choose Date and Time and turn Synchronize via Internet to OFF. Select Animal Crossing: New Horizons from the menu screen and hit X to close it. Restart the game and you should be playing on your new day.
