Where Are We When Are We

The first thing that jumps out after going back to this 15-year-old game is the framerate silky smooth it ain’t. Going from 30 fps to whatever this is is jarring, at least at first. We soon acclimatise, though – it’s somewhere in the region of 20 fps, which sounds interminable, but for this type of game, it’s entirely serviceable.

Dibly’s exact geography is hazy in our mind , so we pull up our map – easily accessed using the stylus on the touchscreen. Control-wise, Wild World is still a joy and although you can play using buttons, we’re touchscreen all the way.

A list of names denoting the residents’ houses on the map immediately fills us with joy, and a little confusion. Stalwart favourites like Aurora and Twiggy one of our first and favourite residents are unforgettable, but who the hell is ‘Mallory’? Must’ve moved here just before we abandoned the place.

Closing the map, we’re about to start exploring the village when we spy movement…

If you’re new to the series, you might not know what to do with them, but you should know that they are an extremely good way of making Bells and building up your museum. We’ll teach you everything you need to know in this guide.

How To Complete The Fossil Exhibit In The Museum In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

365 Days of Animal Crossing: Wild World -Day 27- Fossils, Medacine and, Money. Oh My!

If you want to complete the fossil exhibit at the Museum in New Horizons, then you need to donate one of every single fossil found in the game.

This is a task that, thanks to how the fossils are randomly selected, will most likely take you a couple of months, especially if you’re the only player living on your island.

All you can do is continue digging up the fossils that appear around your island and handing them in for assessment with Blathers.

If you have friends who play New Horizons, however, and they find one of your missing fossils, then they can always give you the fossil and then you can donate it to the Museum.

To discover which fossils you’re missing, head down into the fossil exhibit. There you’ll be able to interact with the various displays, whether you’ve completed them or not, and it will hopefully give you an idea about exactly which fossils you need to complete the exhibit.

Sadly, the only reward you’ll receive for completing the Museum in New Horizons is Blathers’ smile, but at least he’s happy.

After being completed, Blathers gives a small talk on the finished fossil, while the fossil itself has its scientific name and the period in history that it lived in written next to the exhibit.

Stand alone fossils provide small boosts, skulls provide a big boost, and a completed skeleton gives the highest boost. As furniture, all fossils have either Old School , Retro , or Quirky genres.

After being completed, Blathers gives a small talk on the finished fossil, while the fossil itself has its scientific name and the period in history that it lived in written next to the exhibit. On average, players can find three fossils in their town per day, provided there is enough space for them to spawn.

How To Find Fossils In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

365 Days of Animal Crossing: Wild World -Day 14- 3 More Days

To find fossils in New Horizons, you first need to equip yourself with a shovel. Once you’ve brought or crafted this tool, it’s time to explore the island until you find a crack in the ground shaped like an X.

Just like in any good pirate story, the treasure lies beneath the X and by using your shovel on the crack, you’ll unearth a fossil.

You won’t, however, know what type of fossil you’ve found, until you’ve had it assessed.

There will be at least four fossil cracks for you to find every day and, if you don’t collect them, then two more cracks will appear the following day, bringing the maximum amount of fossils you can find on your island at one time to six.

If you do dig up the four fossils, then a new set of four will appear after 5am, which is the island reset time for every island.

You can also find fossils on the Mystery Island tours, which can purchase tickets for at the Nook Stop in Residential Services using Nook Miles.

Whether or not you find a fossil on a Mystery Island is completely random and, if you do, you will only be able to find the one. For this reason, we don’t recommend using Mystery Island tours exclusively for fossil hunting – you’re better off saving your Nook Miles and focusing on the fossils found on your island.

    Where Do You Find Fossils

As you run around your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons you’re sure to come across little ‘X’ marks on the ground. Dig these up with your shovel and nine times out of ten you’ll find a fossil . You can also find them on Nook Miles Mystery Tour Islands or dig them up on your Best Friends‘ islands and bring them home with you .

Four or five new fossils can be dug up on your island everyday .

How Do I Know Which Fossils I’ve Already Found

We recommend donating the first of every fossil you find to Blathers – that way you’ll fill up your museum quickly. However, there’s an easy way to check which fossils you’ve found, besides the laborious method of visiting the museum exhibits and checking which ones you have donated.

Head to Resident Services and use the Nook Stop terminal inside. Select ‘Nook Shopping’ and you’ll be able to view all the fossils you’ve ever found in a list. Confusingly, they’re listed in the Wallpaper and Floorings section, but they’re all there:

However, this is for reference only – you’ll notice that you are not able to buy any fossils from Nook. It’s also important to remember that any fossil you’ve ever had in your inventory will appear here whether you donated it or not.

For example, despite our steadfast rule of always giving Blathers the first one, we somehow failed to donate a Spino tail to our museum, which meant we had to wait until we found another one. Doh!

What To Do With Fossils In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

How To Find Fossils In Animal Crossing

There are three main things you can do with fossils in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Your first port of call with any unidentified fossils should be Tom Nook right at the beginning of the game, and then Blathers once the town museum is open.

Blathers will assess any and all fossils you hand over to him, so dont be shy about filling your pockets.

Once the fossils have been assessed, you have a choice. You can donate one of each type of fossil to the museum to bolster their collection. This is highly recommended, since the museum is a beautiful space and filling it is one of the cornerstones of the game.

However, Blathers cant accept multiples of the same kind of fossil. If you have spare fossils left over, you can either display them on your island for a decent boost to your island rating .

Or you can sell them to Timmy and Tommy at Nooks Cranny for a decent wodge of cash. While the displayed fossils do look impressive, they can be a great source of reliable income every day as well.

Because there’s only so many characters that fit into an item name, many of the fossils in New Horzions have their full names cut off. Here’s all of the dinosaurs and ancient animals that feature:

    • Ankylosaurus
