Animal Crossing New Horizons Wisp Sidequest: How To Encounter Wisp And Complete His Request For A Reward
Wisp previously appeared in Animal Crossing, City Folk and New Leaf – though his appearance and functionality in New Horizons most closely resembles his nature in Animal Crossing on the GameCube. Specifically, in that game Wisp appeared between midnight and 4AM daily, and if encountered he’d then task the player with capturing 5 spirits roaming the town. In Animal Crossing, he’d only appear if there was a certain number of weeds around your town, so being untidy helped.
Most of this aspect of Wisp is irrelevant in New Horizons, but the quest is the same. Wisp appears earlier – we’ve seen Wisp hovering about our islands as early as 10pm – but when you run up and speak to him, he’ll get startled, scattering some of his life energy – Spirit Pieces – across your deserted island paradise. He asks you to return them, just like in Animal Crossing.
As far as we can tell Wisp’s appearance is relatively random but also not exactly rare – in our first two weeks with New Horizons, we saw him multiple times. It doesn’t appear the weeds aspect from the GameCube is a factor here either – the appearance of Wisp appears to be entirely random.
Once you talk to and startle Wisp, his five spirit pieces will go flying, scattered around the island. You’ll have to find them and catch them – to do this you’ll have to craft a net, which will require sticks and possibly some iron nuggets.
How To Find Wisp
Wisp will spawn on your island randomly, in the evenings. In our own experience, weve only encountered him after 8pm. He can appear anywhere on your island, so be sure to look everywhere, both high and low. If you need a ladder to access the upper portions of your island, we have a guide to help you get one!

Returning Them And Your Reward
After you have located and caught all five pieces, you should return to Wisp in his diminished form.
He will be grateful and offer you a reward. Unlike removing weeds and roaches, like in some of the previous games, he will reward you with an item. You can choose between Something Expensive, and Something New. Whilst you may be tempted to go with the something expensive option, Wisp does warn that he has trouble discerning the value of items. So you could end up with a cardboard box. So its usually advisable to go for the Something New item, as at least you wont already own or have catalogued this item.

What Amiibo Unlock In Animal Crossing: New Horizons Explained
Currently, were aware of two features that involve amiibo in Animal Crossing: New Horizons:
- Invite villagers to your island
Inviting villagers to your island
One of the main functions of the amiibo cards in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is to invite villagers to visit your island.
To do this you need to construct the campground on this island. Once you have this location, youll be able to use the Animal Crossing amiibo cards to invite that specific villager to your island.
This villager will then appear in the tent on the campground where youll be able to interact with them.
The Animal Crossing Nintendo Direct also highly suggests that youll be able to encourage these visiting villagers to stay on your island and, possibly, become permanent residents.
Once unlocked, you can dress these models in a variety of clothing, assign them emotions to express, decorate the scene with props and pick out the camera direction before taking your photo.
Since you wont be able to use every single amiibo card, such as DJ KK, in New Horizons straight away, we cant say for sure if there are more special features that will be unlocked by using any form of Animal Crossing amiibo.
Its possible that you could unlock special items, like in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, or special guests, like DJ KK, by using specific amiibos. Well just have to wait and see what lies in store for New Horizons and its continued amiibo support.
In Animal Crossing: City Folk
Dr. Shrunk is found in the citys theater, where emotions can be learned for 800 Bells. He is very rarely replaced by Frillard, who teaches emotions unknown to Dr. Shrunk. A player can retain up to four emotions at a time. If a fifth emotion is to be learned, one of the previous four must be forgotten.
