How Do You Unlock Paintings In Animal Crossing
To upgrade the Museum in Animal Crossing New Horizons and unlock the art gallery, you will need to update your game to patch 1.2. 0. Next, youll need to talk to Blathers the Owl at the museum who will tell you the art gallery is now available but needs art inside it. To get artwork, you can buy it from Redd.
‘acnh’ Art Guide: Where Do You Find Art On ‘animal Crossing’
The first thing players must do is talk to Blathers at the museum. According to dataminer Ninji, your museum must have at least 60 donations to trigger Blathers to consider expanding to include art. The next day, you should encounter a pirate fox named Jolly Redd.
Fans of past versions of Animal Crossing will recognize him better as Crazy Redd. Seems the knockoff artist has rebranded himself as a pirate sailing his “Treasure Trawler” to newly developed ports like yours. Along with some pricy furniture you won’t find at Nook’s Cranny, Redd will sell paintings and statues. But caveat emptor: while some are genuine works of priceless art, many will be counterfeit, so be sure to examine them closely.
Where Do You Find Crazy Redds Paintings In Animal Crossing
Youll need to wait for Crazy Redd to show up in your town with his tent of goodies. This happens one day a week in your town, and hell always be near to your town square. Head inside Redds tent and hell have four paintings for sale.
Once you unlock the Police Station public works project, you can talk to Booker or Copper to find out when Redd is in town. Four Sculptures or Paintings are for sale the day Redd is in town, three of which are fake, and a player can purchase only one item per day.
Mt. Fuji should be very small under the wave. If it takes up a lot of the space under the wave, its fake. Her fingers should be pointing to the bottom right corner of the picture. If theyre pointing to the bottom left, its fake. No fake, always buy. No fake, always buy.

When Does Redd Visit Your Island
After speaking to him the first time, donating his first painting and starting the museum expansion, Redd will always visit on the first day the museum reopens. However, Redd doesn’t appear on a set schedule for subsequent visits .
However, dataminer on Twitter has looked at the code governing special visitors to your island and surmised that Redd will appear approximately once every two weeks, according to the schedule for special island visitors. Shortly after this discovery, a helpful internet soul created this handy infographic:
A little graphic to understand when you will see certain characters on your island see the full Instagram post for even more info on this – data mined info by —#AnimalCrossing#ACNH#AnimalCrossingSwitch#NewHorizonsâ 8BitBish May 17, 2020
So, once Saharah, Kicks and Leif have visited, the two remaining weekday slots will be taken up by two of the five other characters – the ones that don’t come get priority the following week. Assuming this data is correct, it’s possible that Redd won’t visit for a full two weeks, although he’ll definitely visit the week after that.
You can head to the northern shore of your island to check if Redd is there, but the easiest way to see if Redd is visiting is to open the map on your NookPhone and see if the Jolly Trawler is docked there.

How To Get Rid Of Fake Art
If Redd has managed to trick you, and Blathers informs you that your fake art or fake paintings cannot be submitted to the museum, you’ll be stuck with your forgeries – as Redd will have a strict “no refunds policy.” Similarly, word apparently gets passed around the island, as Timmy and Tommy will also refuse deal in forgeries, and you’ll be unable to sell fake art at Nook’s Cranny.
This doesn’t mean you still can’t display your fake art on your island though – just like any other item, you can display painting and sculptures all over your island or in your own home if you want. If not, you can always use a trash can item to literally throw it away if the memory of getting duped still haunts you!
On the other hand, if you’re interested in some haunting consider keeping the fake art you buy. Players have reported portraits opening their eyes and statues floating once they’re interacted with.
How To Get All New Horizons Art Fast
As mentioned above, youll need to time travel for this technique so if youre not willing to do so, then this isnt the method for you. There are 43 pieces of art to collect, and include a variety of different paintings and sculptures.
Before you begin the trick, you need to make sure youre on a day where Redd is visiting your island. To check, simply head to the northern section of beach AKA the secret beach and look to see if his ship is docked there.
Once hes there, buy a legitimate piece of art from his store. He wont always sell a real item every single time, so just be prepared to walk away empty handed sometimes its fine, it happens.
Then save and exit your game, before heading to System Settings > Date and Time. There, turn off Synchronize Clock via Internet, fast forward one day, and then reboot New Horizons back up. Be careful not to go any further than that, or it can mess up his schedule.
If you bought a painting or statue, it should appear in your mailbox for you to donate to Blathers, but dont worry if you didnt. After this, simply just save and quit, revert to the day before, and hell be back and have new stock. Rinse and repeat until youve got everything.

How To Buy Works Of Art
As of Patch 1.2.0, Redd can appear off the coast of your island in Jolly Redd‘s Treasure Trawler. First, however, you’ll need to donate at least 60 items to the Museum . Once Blathers tells you he’s ready to take donations of artwork, Redd should appear the next day.
While his boat will always be docked on the small northern beach on your island, you won’t be able to enter it until you find Redd himself wandering elsewhere on the island. Talk to him and wait for him to apply his family discount and buy the first art he sells , and then give it to Blathers. The art he offers is random, too, so what you get will likely be different than what someone else gets.
To open a new art exhibit wing in the museum, Blathers will close for day for renovations, and afterwards you can find Redd on your island again on a different day, at which point he will invite you to his ship to see more of his art collection.
Each time you visit, he will display 4 works of art – but several of them may not be genuine, and are instead skillful forgeries with only a few telltale signs, and you’ll need to know what to look for, otherwise you may buy the wrong artwork that Blathers will refuse to put in the museum.
How To Buy More Art In Animal Crossing New Horizons
Animal Crossing New Horizons only allows you to buy one piece of art a day from Redd.
However, there are ways around this to buy more. Instead of one piece a day, it’s actually one per villager.
If you create additional Islanders you can buy more art from Redd and fill up your art gallery faster.
You can buy up to four pieces, per day, using this method!

How To Tell Which Of Redds Artworks Are Real And Which Are Fake
All of Redds artworks are based off of real world paintings and sculptures. But the tricky fox may try to sell you a forgery that looks very similar to the genuine article. Each fake will have a visible difference from the real version.
Redd has really stepped up his game this time around and his art is pretty hard to differentiate from the real versions. Keep in mind that the differences between the real and fakes are not the same as they were in Animal Crossing: New Leaf and are much harder to spot.
In the list below, well include descriptions of how you can tell the difference between a real piece of art and a forgery. Well keep updating as we find more.
Update : While we used the painting textures from the game to list the paintings below, it appears that there have been reports of multiple types of fake paintings that were not in the textures we used. That being said, make sure to inspect the paintings carefully and compare them to the real paintings below before you make any purchases. We will continue investigating and update this guide as we find more information.

How To Get The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Art Gallery
When Redd first appears on your island, head over to meet him at the plaza and he’ll offer you a painting. I had the ‘common painting’ and initially he asks for a lot of money to part with it. Say no, and he’ll offer it to you for a fraction of that price.
Buy it, and then take your newly purchased piece of art over to Blathers at the Animal Crossing: New Horizons museum. There will appear a new dialogue prompt that reads ‘I found a piece of art!’. Choose that, and you’ll get the option to donate your artwork to the museum. Thankfully, this one isn’t a forgery.
This will prompt Blathers to apply for a museum expansion permit, and you’ll get the art gallery wing added after two calendar days. The immediate day after the museum will be closed for renovations, and then the day after that you’ll get the art gallery expansion.
How To Unlock Jolly Redd’s Treasure Trawler And The Museum Art Gallery
Talk to Blathers. As usual, he’s planted in the museum foyer. He’ll tell you that he’s been thinking of expanding the museum to include an art gallery.
The following day when you turn your game on, Isabelle will tell you that there are reports of a “suspicious visitor.” Look around on your island until you spot Redd. Talk to him, and he’ll tell you about his art selling business. You’ll even get the chance to purchase some artwork from him. He’ll initially give you an insanely expensive price. Turn down this first offer, and then he’ll come back with a reasonable amount. Now make sure to purchase the artwork he’s selling.
Run to the museum and offer the artwork you’ve just purchased to Blathers. After seeing the artwork, he’ll state that his dream of expanding the museum to an art gallery can finally begin.
The following day, Isabelle announces that the museum will be closed for a day for remodeling.
The next day, the museum will open with the new art gallery appearing up the stairs behind Blathers. Run around the island and locate Redd. He’ll tell you that he’s acquired a boat where you can purchase art and furniture. Tell him that you want to check it out.
He’ll run off back to his boat. Now you need to run to the “secret beach” at the back of your island. You’ll find his boat docked back there. Go ahead and board his trawler.
Check your mailbox the following day to pick up the art you’ve purchased.

What To Do With Redds Fake Items
If someone happened to persuade you into purchasing one of Redds copies, the truth is there isnt much you can do with them. Blathers understands that showcasing replicas in his reputable institution is a big no-no. The Nooklings would willingly purchase weeds rather than step into the dangerous world of the black market.
You have the opportunity to either hide and store any undesired products in your home warehouse to collect digital dust, publicize them inside if you are one of the few who actually relish Redds novel takes on fine art, or throw them in your trash never to be seen again.
Dont get your hopes up you wont be receiving your cash back if you fall for Redds schemes, but his fakes arent entirely stripped of appeal.
How To Spot Fake Art
All the art in Animal Crossing games is based on real-world masterworks like van Gogh’s The Starry Night, da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, and Hokusai’s The Great Wave. There’s a good chance you’ll recognize at least some of the art on sale, and for the ones you don’t recognize, we’ve included details about the real-life art and artists below.
The trick to spotting a forgery is inspecting the art to see if it matches its real-world counterpart. Usually, this involves looking for differences in a focal point of the painting: The Girl with a Pearl Earring’s pearl earring, Mona Lisa’s eyebrows, and the like. Colors, facial features, clothing, and more might be incorrect. However, there are some paintings for which there is no fake version at all, so if it looks right, there’s a chance it is.
Below are side-by-side images of the real and fake art that Jolly Redd sells. Paintings are in alphabetical order from the top, followed by statues and artifacts, and we’ve indicated those pieces that have no fake version as well. There is a complete list of all the art and a text description of the fake version in the table at the bottom of this article we’re working to add all the images over the coming days.

How To Buy More Than One Artwork From Redd Per Day
If you’re looking to fill your museum and not miss an opportunity to purchase a genuine piece of art, you might want to consider enlisting the help of other players living on your island. Any player who also lives on your island can purchase an item from Redd . Visitors from other islands can also visit Redd , so it’s entirely possible to completely clear out Redd’s gallery.
HOWEVER! Remember, there’s no guarantee that there will be more than one genuine artwork to purchase – and Redd may be selling nothing but fakes.
The ability to buy more than one thing using other residents and visitors is also useful if you accidentally buy a fake and want to return to pick up a real one before Redd leaves your island.
