Animal Crossing: New Horizons & The Chaotic Things To Do To Friends
Reading Time: 3 minutesAnimal Crossing: New Horizons is out now and has taken the world by storm. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons you have the option to not only visit random mystery islands but the islands of your friends. Needless to say, here are the five most chaotic things to do at your friends islands.
While on your friends island, after becoming their best friend, you can take our your shovel. Are you playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons and if so, what are you doing while visiting your friends islands? .
Craft New Recipes And Beautify Your Island
Bamboo is a rare crafting material in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It’s a little more difficult to get than other similar items, like maple leaves, summer shells, and snowflakes, all of which you can pick up or snag in your net while walking around your island.
What To Do With Bamboo And Where To Plant It
Like many things in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, bamboo doesnt have one single use. Its not like wood or iron nuggets where it is required quite often, but it is similar in that you dont actively use the item itself. Instead it is simply another piece of crafting material that will be vital for future furniture crafting, once you get the DIY recipe. But building a single piece of furniture might not seem worth all the effort of finding this rare item, which is only found from using a Nook Miles ticket to visit a mysterious island.
Once you or one of your friends finds one you can dig near the tree to get a bamboo shoot you can plant back at home. They grow the same as trees, so plant them in the grass with space around them to grow. New bamboo shoots will spawn next to the fully grown bamboo stalk after the usual three days and you can dig them up. After you have a few the real thing to do with bamboo is sell it, with prices changing as the game grows, but they will often yield far more than normal fruit, so be sure to harvest and sell them often.
Hopefully this explains what to do with bamboo and where to plant it in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Its one of the rarer and lesser used items in the game. However, once you have a good farm of them growing they are a great soure of Bells.

Morning Isabelle Announcement
Near the beginning of the Spring Season, you should hear from Isabelle in the morning announcements about the new seasonal crafting material and recipes. If you havent already learned the Bamboo Noodle Slide DIY Crafting recipe, shell send it to your NookPhone during the announcements.
Theres been a lot of confusion in the community about when or how this morning announcement from Isabelle occurs, but from our knowledge so far, it can only happen when you have no other notable announcements.
In other words, the game seems to use the seasonal recipe announcements as a filler item of sorts when theres nothing else for Isabelle to talk about! So whenever you have no villagers moving in, buildings opening, or other notable events for her to discuss, you should get the announcement.

Plant And Grow Bamboo Shoots
Bamboo can be grown on your own island by planting Bamboo Shoots available on remote islands. They need the same amount of free space as trees to grow, so make sure you plant them somewhere with plenty of room.
Bamboo Shoots are on Mystery Islands
Bamboo Shoots are found on the same island as the fully grown Bamboo, so dig them up with your shovel and bring them back with you.
Where To Get Bamboo In Animal Crossing New Horizons
In order to unlock Bamboo, you need to go to the resource islands with Nook Miles tickets. There isnt a way to make this happen 100%, but if you keep going you will get a Bamboo island eventually. It took me roughly a week to find one, so hopefully I just had bad luck and you can get one quicker. Once on the island you can dig up bamboo shoots. Plant these on your island and after a few days they will grow into bamboo stalks that you can cut for the bamboo you need to craft with. You can also eat pears/other fruit and dig up the fully grown bamboo stalks and bring them back to your island, making it easier to get bamboo quickly at home. Be careful with the bamboo shoots, it will let you eat them if you click the wrong button.
Another thing to watch out for is what axe you use to chop down the bamboo. Dont use a metal axe or else you will cut the whole tree down. Instead focus on the flimsy axe or stone axe to keep the trees up and to retrieve bamboo without cutting them down. The last thing you want to do is cut down all the bamboo on your island and be stuck waiting to get lucky with a resource island again. If you have a friend with some bamboo you can trade them a few trees if they are feeling generous.

Can I Get Young Spring Bamboo Out Of Season
The official dates for picking up young spring bamboo are February 25th to May 31st in the Northern Hemisphere or August 25th to November 30th in the Southern Hemisphere. But that does not mean you cannot get any outside of these dates as there are workarounds.
If you have a friend in a different hemisphere, you can jet off to their island and get some that way, or you can look into trading with other players who have hoarded a lot of it and may need something that you have acquired. You can also trade with a player who has stockpiled bamboo in their home storage.
Alternatively, good old time travel is another way forward so just head to the above dates depending on where you are. If youre heading to the Northern Hemisphere try March, April or May, for Southern Hemisphere try September, October or November.

How To Get Bamboo
In order get bamboo, the player will first need to have a Nook Miles ticket or the ability to buy one for 2,000 Nook Miles. When redeemed, Nook Miles tickets take players to randomly generated islands that they can find new resources at. Trees and fruit are among the resources that players can find at these islands, and this is including bamboo. In fact, bamboo is only able to be obtained through these islands, so players will need Nook Miles tickets if they would like to bring some home.
When players find an island with bamboo on it, they might spot several places where they can dig with their shovel. If the player digs at one of these spots, they’ll find bamboo shoots. This is where the bamboo plant grows from, so one will be necessary in order to grow bamboo on the home island. Similarly to growing a money tree, the player only needs to choose a spot for their bamboo, dig a hole, and plant the bamboo shoot from their inventory. After a few days, the bamboo plant should be grown.
There are also other methods of getting bamboo. Instead of planting a bamboo shoot the player could choose to dig up an entire bamboo plant after eating fruit and move it to their home island. The player could also take bamboo from a friend’s island through local or online multiplayer and plant it. Whatever the choice, be careful not to destroy the bamboo once it’s been plantedit will be tedious to get again.

Bamboo and Bamboo Shoots are one of the most annoying resources to find in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
The game tells you nothing about their location or where they come from, and it was only down to pure luck that we even came across them in the first place. Some DIY recipes require you to have Bamboo to craft them, but there doesnt seem to be anywhere where they spawn.

Bamboo and Bamboo Shoots are just one of these many resources that you need, so you need to hope that RNG is on your side when visiting a mystery Island, and it just happens to land you on a Bamboo infested island for you to make the most of.

Make sure to eat a ton of Fruit and take a Shovel with you so you can bring the Bamboo Trees back to your main island, so you dont have to rely on Mystery Tours anymore to get more resources, or else youll have to go on more trips to pray you come in contact with the trees once again.

How To Get Bamboo In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
The ‘normal’ way of getting bamboo to grow in your settlement involves traveling to other, mystery islands.
Go to the Resident Services building on your island.
Access the Nook Stop in the lower-right of the room.
Select Redeem Nook Miles.
Pick Nook Miles Ticket. This item costs 2,000 Nook Miles, which you earn by doing various tasks on your island.
Choose Redeem. The machine will dispense your ticket.
Because the next steps depend on chance, you should get several tickets at once to save some trips back to Resident Services.
Now, head to your airport. Talk to Orville at the desk and say, “I wanna fly!“
At the next prompt, choose Use Nook Miles Ticket.
After some dialogue, Wilbur will fly you to another island. You’ll know right away if you’ve arrived at one with bamboo because it will be visible from the plane.
If you don’t see bamboo, talk to Wilbur to return to your island. Once you arrive, talk to Orville again and repeat the steps to use a Nook Miles Ticket. Keep trying until you get a bamboo island.
Once you get the right island, you have a few options. Use your shovel to dig up the marked spots around the bamboo plants to get bamboo shoots that you can plant when you return home.
You can also collect entire trees to take home to plant; this option saves you from waiting for the shoots you plant to grow. To do so, use your shovel on a tree after you’ve eaten fruit or a bamboo shoot.
