Dig Up A Hole And Bury A Fruit
To grow your own fruit tree, you can use a shovel to dig up a hole, and bury a fruit with it. The tree will be fully-grown in 4 days.
Make sure you have enough space!
If your fruit tree isn’t growing, there’s a chance that other trees or buildings are too close to it.
To grow, your fruit tree needs at least 1 free space around it, so that’s 8 spaces in total.
How To Make Tree Stumps
Tree stumps are leftover when you do fully cut down a tree. They will not regrow into other trees. To remove them, use a shovel to dig up the stump. You can then fill in the hole. It is recommended to have a couple of stumps around your town though, because there are some bugs which will only spawn on tree stumps. Theyre also really cute little chairs!
And thats everything there is to know about trees! Hopefully this helps you get settled into your new Animal Crossing: New Horizons island! Much like the game itself, check back throughout the day to see whats new here on Fanbyte. We already have guides for how to move your tent and how to get across rivers using either the Pole Vault or constructing bridges. Later today well have more guides up including how to get Nooks Cranny, how to visit mystery islands, and buy and sell turnips!
Wait For The Shrubs To Grow
After planting the Shrubs, wait for three days for them to bloom. Unlike Flowers, they don’t need Watering Cans to grow so just sit back and relax!
Bushes and Shrubs Take 3 Days to Grow
|Third Day||Fourth Day|
Flowers on Bushes bloom only in certain seasons, so refer to the list above to see what Bush blooms when!
Bushes and Shrubs Don’t Have Hybrids
Unfortunately, Bushes and Shrubs don’t spread naturally or cross-pollinate, so the only way to get more is to buy them from Leif, and only the colors available at the shop can be grown.

How To Plant Bushes On Your Island
Planting bushes on your island couldnt be any easier! To plant a bush, just open your inventory and select the Plant option when pressing on a bush start that youve purchased from Leif. It works exactly the same as planting flower seeds.
If you want more control over your bush planting to get precise placements and eliminate the possibility for mistakes, you can use a shovel to dig a hole and directly bury the bush start into the hole. And by the way, you can easily move bushes simply by digging them up and re-planting. This applies even when the bush is in its smallest and least grown size!
Plus, if youre not sure exactly where you want to place your new bushes, you can easily plant them in an unused corner somewhere on your island as a holding spot and simply move them later into the ideal locations after theyre fully grown.
Where Can Bushes Grow? Rules For Planting Bushes
If you played Animal Crossing: New Leaf on Nintendo 3DS, youre no doubt familiar with the many restrictions bushes had in regard to places they could actually grow without dying. Good news though the restrictions for bush planting appear to have been heavily relaxed!
Its still early days for bushes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons so we dont have a complete picture of every possible bush planting rule, but heres a few examples below of situations where we can confirm bushes can be planted. A huge thanks goes to who performed these tests and took the screenshots seen below!

How To Craft Hedges
Though you might expect them to be grown like flowers or trees, hedges in Animal Crossing actually function like different kinds of fences, something you craft into stacks and then deploy in a line to build a barrier of sorts. To craft hedges, you’ll need the following ingredients:
Joel Franey/USgamer, Nintendo
- Clumps of Weeds
- Tree Branches
Every time you craft this recipe at a workbench, you’ll get 10 separate hedges to set out however you want! Why not try making a few dozen stacks, then building a creepy hedge maze for Jack Torrance to chase you through?

Pick Some When Using Nook Miles Tickets & Replant Them
In Resident Services, you can exchange 2000 miles for a Nook Miles Ticket. If you take this to the airport, Dodo Airlines will fly you to a neighboring island where you can forage for supplies, fish, bugs, whatever you like. On these islands, you will sometimes be able to find your sister fruit . You can then pick them and take them home to replant, though you’ll never be able to find all the fruits on these islands only your sister fruit.
The good news is that most of these islands will also have coconuts on the beaches, so be sure to pick up some of those too.

How To Get Bushes In Animal Crossing New Horizons
The Nature Day even is right around the corner for New Horizons players. A new plant has made its way into the game just in time to do some spring cleaning on your island. You can make some new designs using bushes, which may end up changing the layout of your island if you decide to use them. This guide will explain how to get bushes in Animal Crossing New Horizons.
Animal Crossing New Horizons April 23 update is bringing two new island visitors into New Horizons. These new characters are Leif and Jolly Redd, and they both have their own shops. Leifs Garden Shop is what well be focusing on here because thats where we can purchase bushes.
How to Get Bushes in Animal Crossing New Horizons
First, make sure your game is totally updated with the new April 23 update. After updating, you will have to wait until Leif comes to visit your island so you can shop in Leifs Garden Shop. With Nature Day coming soon, you can probably expect him in a couple of days.
After Leif arrives, head over to Leifs Garden Shop which will look like a small kiosk. He will arrive at your island on random days similar to other island visitors like Savannah. His shop will be located in the Main Square, so youll know where to find him.
You will be able to purchase a variety of different bushes from him, including White and Pink Azaleas, and Orange and Yellow Tea-Olives. There will likely be many more types of bushes added into the game, but these are the ones we know for sure so far.
When And Where Leif Visits
Leif comes to your island the same as any other wandering tourist like Sahara or Kicks. It seems like he’s available today for everyone, in honor of Nature Day and the new update. We don’t know if he’ll be around tomorrow too, or if he disappears after the event is over.
If we had to guess, based on previous games, we’d wager Leif probably sets up shop with the Nooklings again after a while. We’ll update when we know for sure, though.
When he is in town, Leif will;set up in front of Resident Services at the start of each day and stay there until 4:59 a.m. the following morning. The main attraction is, of course, the variety of flowering shrubs he sells for 280 Bells apiece, but he also offers rarer flowers like cosmos and mums.
On top of that, he’ll buy your weeds for double the Nooklings’ price 20 Bells per bundle.
Animal Crossing: How To Get The Game’s Rarest Beetles
Players may be scratching their heads over how to get the rarest beetles, but there’s a simple method they can use to snag those stubborn bugs
In the beginning of July, Animal Crossing: New Horizons added over twenty new bugs. However, even the most hardcore players will find it difficult to;catch them all at once, as;these bugs appear in different locations at different times. Currently, the horned beetles are the most sought after due to their high prices and colorful appearances.
Unfortunately, these beetles;spawn infrequently, so it’s hard to find them to fill out one’s Critterpedia. Also, once players do find them, it’s all too easy to either scare the beetles off or miscalculate the distance to the trees these bugs are resting on. Luckily, there’s an easier way to nab rare beetles with a method people may already be familiar with: creating a Tarantula Island.
The game’s rarest beetles include the scarab , giant stag , cyclommatus stag , golden stag , giraffe stag , horned atlas , horned elephant and horned hercules . The scarab beetle and giant stag spawn on trees from 11 PM to 8 AM, while the others only spawn on palm trees from 5 PM to 8 AM.
How To Get Bamboo Trees
There is one type of special tree. The bamboo plant can be found on mystery islands and can be harvested like other trees. You can transplant them and place them on your island, or you can harvest their fruit and replant those. Unlike other fruit bearing trees in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, bamboo plants produce their fruit underground. You can dig them up by looking for the telltale X that marks the spot in the area underneath the plant. When hit with an axe, bamboo plants create two resources: bamboo pieces and young spring bamboo. These resources can be used to craft items.

How To Dig Up Trees In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
To dig up a tree, simply eat a single fruit of any kind to gain some temporary super strength. You can eat one fruit at a time, and the superpower maxes out at 10 fruit.
Once youve dug up a tree, youll be able to see what type of tree it is, even if it wasnt a fruit-bearing day for that tree. This comes in handy when youre trying to manage and organize all of your fruit trees.
Of course, you can always hack away at any given tree by using the ax tool. You cannot cut down trees with a flimsy ax or a stone ax, as those serve as non-damaging means of harvesting wood from your trees.
Just make sure to dig up your tree stumps after youve chopped down trees, as they dont despawn on their own. Feel free to keep a few as a furniture feature for your NPC villagers to sit on. Also, tree stumps can spawn an exclusive type of spider.
What Happens During The Nature Day Event In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
In addition to hosting the first appearance of Leif, limited-time Nature Day activities unlock for the duration of the event that reward you with new Nook Miles achievements. These involve completing tasks such as planting shrubs and trees around your town and watering plants. Completing these tasks will unlock the ability to craft hedgerows.
On Nature Day in previous games, the Mayor Tortimer would gift the player nature-based items and speak about trees and nature. Unfortunately, the tortoise doesn’t return for the event in New Horizons, but that’s not to say he won’t appear at some time in the future on his own retirement island, perhaps?

Buying Shrubs In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Shrubs are an entirely new plant type in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. When Lief came to town during Nature Day, he introduced them to the island and explained how to use them. Shrubs can be bought directly from Leif. He is a recurring character, so don’t worry if you can’t find him right now. He will return periodically, just like other occasional salesmen in the game.
Shrubs start out at 280 bells each. Just track Lief down in town and he’ll open up his shop for you. You can also sell your Weeds to him if you have extras. He will pay a high price for them, and you can use the extra cash to buy more Shrubs! Shrubs come in a variety of colors and flower patterns. These will change with the seasons, so keep a sharp eye out for new variations.
How To Get & Grow Shrubs Into Bushes In Animal Crossing New Horizons
To get and grow Animal Crossing New Horizons shrubs, the first order of business is finding the terrifying-looking sloth, Leif, on your island. For more info on that, check out our When Does Leif Come in Animal Crossing No Leif on Nature Day guide. Every time he arrives, Lief sells you four different shrub starters . He also sells flowers that are often not native to your island, and buys Weeds for twice the money than Nook corner, so keep that in mind.
Once you purchase the shrub starters you want, simply plant them like you would plant flowers. Itll take a few days to grow, and will only sprout flowers if the season is right. Last, but not least, youll find a list of all the shrubs you can buy in the game below.
- Blue hydrangea

Is Shrubs Breeding Possible In Animal Crossing New Horizons
No, shrubs breeding is not possible in Animal Crossing New Horizons.

HOW TO: Wish upon a star in Animal Crossing New Horizons
While this might be annoying for cheapskates who wish to horde all of their bells, the good news is that shrubs are cheap and that Leif doesnt sell you fake goods unlike a certain Mr. Fox.
Planting Shrubs In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Planting Shrubs in Animal Crossing is not like planting flowers. Shrubs can not be cross-bred the way flowers can be. Luckily, they also do not need to be watered, so you can save your watering can. Dig a hole and plant the seeds the same way you would plant a tree. Within two days you should see your shrubs in all their glory. Planting shrubs;around your island will help increase the natural aesthetic and make everything look much more beautiful.

Bushes, or Shrubs, have been added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons as an exciting new landscaping option for your island! Learn how to get bushes, see every bush type and color, and a few tips on where you can plant them.
While fences, trees, and flowers have been a great way to decorate islands so far in New Horizons, the introduction of bushes brings a whole new level to island landscaping! Theyre great for lining your paths and be placed in some locations that trees typically wont survive.
How To Use The Glitch
In order to use this trick, players need to make sure that the entire floor that they want to work on is completely terraformed. After terraforming, they have to select the type of tile that suits their design. Then, players have to place a building plot on top of the tiles where they want to place the flora. They can do this by using the construction kit and they can place any house or shop on it.
Following that, they have to use the Let me imagine it option to visualize the building on top of the pathway. Then they have to select the I need to rethink it option which cancels the construction of the building. By doing this, the game glitches the pathway and converts the plots characteristic to normal grass, but it still visually looks like a pathway. Now, players can just dig holes on the path and place whatever trees or flowers they want.

Other than that, fans can also bury items like fossils on this path. But mainly, this trick is definitely suited to save space and place decorations where it feels empty.
