Mushrooms In Animal Crossing: New Horizons: How And Where To Get Them Diy Recipes And More
Fall brings a lot of new items to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. One of these items is the multipurpose mushroom.
Mushrooms are a very important item in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Not only can they be used for multiple DIY recipes, they can also be consumed by players to gain stamina and health.
Since mushrooms are so important in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players aim to collect as much of them as possible. Here’s how players can collect mushrooms in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and what they can use them for.
Do You Need Cedar Or Oak Trees
The short answer is yes, you do. While fruit is important, and it definitely adds some spice to your island, youll want to keep some cedar, oak, and other non-fruit trees on your island for the various items that they can reward you with.
For one, you will find that some of the non-fruit trees on your island that look like normal trees are hardwood of softwood trees, rewarding you with that specific wood. This is handy if youre having to build up a lot of items that require wood, as you can more aptly determine where to get the items that you need. These particular trees are also the trees that will change during special events like the Cherry Blossom event which happened earlier in April.
While cedar and oak trees wont necessarily change that much during events, they do provide a nice additional look for your island, as well as a nice resource for wood, wasp hives, and furniture. These are items that tend to drop from non-fruit trees more often than not, so its definitely worth holding onto those trees when you can.
Of course, you can always make do without those specific trees if you so wish. The decision all comes down to how much you want to miss out on special event changes and the like. Now that you know what the purpose of oak and cedar trees are, you can head back over to our Animal Crossing: New Horizons guide for even more help.
How To Buy An Axe In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
You can buy an axe from Timmy in Tom Nooks tent. Youll need to hit the right bumper in order for the shop to tab over to another page of items. There you can get a flimsy axe for 800 bells.
What does flimsy mean? Its just worse than a normal axe in that it breaks sooner and cant chop down trees. On the other hand, this means you can get one more wood out of each tree every day. A regular axe also gets three wood, but does fell the tree with the final swing.
How To Craft An Axe In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
You can save some bells by crafting an axe instead. Timmy also sells a DIY flimsy axe recipe for about 250 bells. To craft it, however, youll need wood and a single stone. If this is your first axe though, its awfully hard to get wood without an axe to create wood.
We recommend you simply purchase the flimsy axe outright for 800 bells when youre first starting. That way you can more quickly advance your progress and worry about efficiency later.
And thats it! Hopefully this helps you get settled into your new Animal Crossing: New Horizons island! Much like the game itself, check back throughout the day to see whats new here on Fanbyte. We already have guides for how to move your tent and how to get across rivers using either the Pole Vault or constructing bridges. Later today well have more guides up including how to get Nooks Cranny, how to visit mystery islands, and buy and sell turnips!
How To Get Hard Wood Soft Wood & Wood
All normal trees produce three types of wood when they are hit with an axe. The type of wood you get when you hit a tree is random, and each tree on an island will give you a maximum of three pieces of wood each day. To maximize your resource collection, we recommend carrying a couple of flimsy axes with you. Flimsy axes will never cut down a tree, but will allow you to collect all three pieces of wood while still keeping the tree standing. Using a normal, upgraded axe will result in you chopping down the tree after your third strike.
All three types of wood are valuable and needed in various DIY recipes.
How To Get Wood Hardwood And Softwood
Before you can start your career as a lumberjack, youll need to get an axe. Like most tools in New Horizons, youll need to craft it. But to do that, youll need the appropriate DIY recipe. Youll get it from Tom Nook at a certain point. We got it after showing him a tiger butterfly we caught using the net. It might trigger after a certain number of creatures shown, or this specific creature.
Either way, Tom will reward you for your efforts in cataloguing the islands wildlife by giving you a bunch of recipes that require wood, as well as the recipe for an axe. Once youve crafted an axe, simply approach any tree on the island and start whacking it. Itll drop one of the three kinds of wood. When you approach the neatly cut logs, their name will pop up. Youll soon learn to recognize them even without the text. Wood is brown, softwood is light brown, hardwood is dark brown.
Each tree will only drop a few pieces of wood, so youll need to do some walking if you require larger amounts of material. The resources will replenish after a while, but you wont be able to just constantly milk that one particular tree thats closest to your workbench.
How To Get Bamboo
Every tree except bamboo plants will produce wood, hardwood, and softwood. Instead, bamboo plants will produce two resources: bamboo pieces and young spring bamboo. However, bamboo isnt native to your island, so youll need to travel to a random island to find it.
Once youve discovered bamboo plants, be sure to transplant them to your own island by digging up the plant or harvesting their fruit . You can take these back to your island and plant them to have a recurring stream of bamboo resources.

How To Chop Hardwood In Animal Crossing
Hardwood is the darkest colored wood and is best obtained by chopping trees. While hardwood trees like cedar and oak have a slightly higher chance of dropping hardwood, it can be obtained from regular trees, fruit-bearing trees, and even palm trees. The only type that wont drop hardwood is bamboo plants.
To get hardwood, follow these steps:
Equip your axe.
Walk up to a tree and press the A button to swing your axe.
Hitting a tree three times with a regular axe will chop it down, meaning you won’t be able to go back to that tree for more wood. Instead, use a flimsy or stone axe to preserve trees and keep the wood flowing.
Pick up the chopped hardwood by pressing the Y button.
Each tree on your island will drop a maximum of three pieces of wood each day, so the more trees you plant, the more wood you can collect.
Head To A Mystery Island
Prior to leaving for a mystery island, you will need to prepare. Check out the list below for the things to do before you head to the airport.
- Empty your inventoryof everything besides your shovel, net, and axe.
- Make sure your shovel and net are still durable .

Making a DIY scorpion island requires space in your inventory and sturdy tools. If you can’t make any extra shovels or nets though, it’s okay. Every mystery island has palm trees on the beach.
