Animal Crossing: New Horizons How To Get 8 Items From Rocks Using The Rock Trick
Smashing a rock in Animal Crossing: New Horizons usually nabs you a few useful resources. I say usually because there is a trick you can use to maximize the amount of goodies you get. Instead of two or three items, you’ll end up getting up to eight. This isn’t a new trick to the series, but it’s nice to see that it’s remained in New Horizons for anyone who wants to take advantage of it.
Place The Furniture On The Shore
Once you’ve got all the furniture necessary, place it all along the water’s edge! Remember, you need to cover up all tiles touching the water, so make sure to double check carefully when laying down furniture! If you drop an item and it doesn’t fall on the water’s edge, that means you’ve effectively covered up the right tile.
Remove Custom Design To Make Room For Fossils
Open up more spots to make room for weeds
When you get your 6 rocks in place, it’s time to move on to fossils. Fossils spawn in the same way as rocks, so you’ll need to remove the custom design on the ground first! However, you’ll definitely get weeds here too, so try to open up a slightly larger space, like a 3×3 grid as indicated above.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons: Rock Trick
- 344
If Animal Crossing: New Horizons is your first experience of Nintendo’s sedate life-sim series, you may be struggling to find materials you need to craft essential tools. Hitting rocks is one way to gather valuable resources like iron nuggets, clay, stones, several bugs and even Bells.
If you get the timing right, it’s possible to maximise the number of goodies that pop out of the rock, although each strike with an axe or a shovel will propel you backwards meaning you’re ever more likely to miss the rock completely – and therefore miss out on materials!
However, there is a way to 100% guarantee getting every last resource from rocks. Veterans of the Animal Crossing series will no doubt have tried the time-honoured trick which enables you to bag the maximum number of resources from hitting rocks. It involves having something behind you that prevents each strike pushing you away from the stone.
Here we’ll show you the quickest way to harvest resources from rocks around your Animal Crossing island.

If you’re extra lucky, you’ll find something far more valuable than ore on a Mystery Island Tour: bells.
A certain type of island that spawns on rare occasions features a piece of land that is covered in rocks. Each one will produce bells when hit with an axe or shovel, so be prepared to collect it all and feel rich.
How To Move Rocks In Animal Crossing New Horizons
The first thing that you need to know about moving rocks is that you cannot actually move them like furniture. The only way to get them to move somewhere else is by breaking it with your shovel by eating some fruit.
To do this, grab any piece of fruit from a tree or your storage, open up your pouch with the X button on your Switch, and then select the piece of fruit.
Now, just hover over to the Eat option and your villager will start chomping down on the selected fruit.
Youll see an icon on the top-left corner of your screen that will essentially tell you how many pieces of fruit that are inside of your um system.
Now, with all of that fruit power, you can break rocks by smacking it once with your shovel.
You might get stone or iron after you break it but once you do this, the rock will not respawn in that spot. Just wait a couple of days and you will find that the rock has found a different location on your island, which is completely random.
Time needed: 1 minute.
To sum up how to move rocks in Animal Crossing New Horizons:
Open inventory with X and then select the fruit to eat it.

A common question that Animal Crossing: New Horizons players have is how to get more Iron from Rocks. The reason for this stems from the Shop that Timmy wants you to build. Help I Accidentally Destroyed My Rock By Eating Fruit Before Hitting It How Do I Get The Rock Back Do Rocks Respawn In Animal Crossing
Calm down, calm down! If you accidentally destroy a rock in Animal Crossing: New Horizons all you have to do is wait until tomorrow and the rock fairies will magically return it to its former glory somewhere else on your island, enabling you to once again bash it for all it’s worth. Yes, rocks respawn overnight, so no need to worry. Phew!
It’s worth bearing in mind that only one rock will respawn per night. Destroy one by accident and you’ll be fine, but destroying every rock on your island in a fit of shovel-based violence will leave you with fewer rocks to harvest materials from for several days, so be careful.

Prepare A Custom Design
In order to move rocks to a location of your choice, you’ll first need to have a Custom Design ready. This design will be made invisible at the end of the process, so its appearance doesn’t matter! Make something that stands out and is easy to spot!
We chose to cover up our island with the face of the lovely Gorilla villager, Al!
Once you’ve got your Custom Design, cover the entirety of your island with it! Don’t leave a single empty space! You’re mainly going for spots that aren’t taken up by buildings or furniture. If weeds or a fossil could spawn there, you need to make sure it’s covered! Don’t forget to lay these tiles on cliffs as well!
Break Rocks While Laying Tiles
Your island will have a maximum of 6 rocks on it at once. In order to move these rocks and fix their location, you’ll need to break the existing rocks first. While you’re laying down your custom tiles, use that opportunity to also smash existing rocks and also collect all fossils.
Once you’ve finished laying down the custom tile all over your island, the next step is to force rocks to spawn. Rocks will spawn on tiles that aren’t covered by Custom Designs once the date changes! Note that weeds also respawn with this exact timing, so make sure to clear out 2 additional spaces just in case.
You Can Get Up To Eight Items Out Of Rocks

Remember when we said that hitting a rock in succession will produce more items over a brief period? Digging holes or placing objects behind you will ensure you collect eight items out of a rock every time.
To collect the maximum number of materials, youll also want to make sure the spaces around the rock are clear of any items including weeds. Next, equip a shovel and hit the rock continuously.

You Can Find Bugs Under Rocks
While most bugs can be found out in the open, there are three species of bugs that can only be found after a player strikes a rock.
Pill bugs, centipedes, and house centipedes are known to creep out from under rocks during certain times of the day and year. If youre on the search for one of these bugs, be ready to quickly equip your net after hitting a rock.
Sometimes Gold Is Hidden In Rocks
Gold nuggets are the rarest item you can find inside of rocks. They appear randomly when a player hits a rock. Though gold nuggets sell for a whopping 10,000 each, youll probably want to hang on to them to later create golden tools.
While golden tools can still break, they are the most durable items of their kind. While youll have to unlock the ability to craft golden items by completing tasks like maxing out the museum and destroying 100 axes, the recipes will come eventually.

You’ll need to get a lot of items ready to act as “spawn blockers”. This is because you actually can’t place Custom Designs on tiles which are by the water’s edge. Floor Lights are a good choice here because you can walk on top of them, meaning they won’t get in your way while fishing!
How To Spawn Rocks Together In Animal Crossing New: Horizons
If running around the island farming those rocks start to lose its charm, the next best step is to bring them all together in one easy to access location. But first, let’s explain how rocks work. Rocks in Animal Crossing: New Horizons only spawn in places where there is an empty 3×3 space available. What’s tricky about this is knowing what objects would make it difficult or cause a disruption in this process. By destroying them, and seeing where they respawn the next day, or by observing what objects may or may not already be close to the rocks currently on the island, players could figure out on their own how to manipulate this. Any object that does not include flowers, weeds, dirt and/or gravel paths can and will “disrupt” or the location of a rock spawn. Cliff sides, trees, and bodies of water can also affect where rocks spawn, as players will notice there will always be at least one space between the rocks and these objects.
Of course, rocks only spawn on dirt or grass so setting up a stone path, for example, might restrict where it spawns, but will not inhibit rocks from spawning right next to it. Flowers, weeds, and the paths merely affect where nearby the rock will spawn and can be used as a tool to correctly position them. While there are many ways of doing this including terraforming, one YouTube content creator by the name of MayorMori uses mannequins to prevent rocks from spawning around the island and placing them in a rock garden.

You Can Get Ore By Hitting Rocks
The main purpose or rocks in New Horizons is to provide players with ore. Five of the six rocks on an island will contain ore every day. When a player hits one of these rocks with an equipped tool, the ore will come out.
Players should continue to hit rocks in succession because they will produce more ore over a roughly 10-second span. Rock materials include clay, iron, and stone, all of which can be used to craft certain objects including upgraded tools. If players are extra lucky, they might even find gold.
How To Break A Rock
You will notice that the entire island has a grid system layout and each rock is surrounded by 8 squares. These squares must be empty so that the materials coming out of the rock have a place to land. You will need a stone axe or shovel to strike the rocks. Any rock can be struck for a maximum of 8 times.
There is no sure way to know which material will be produced when you strike a rock. It all depends on luck. To make sure you get the most out of each rock, you will need to first ensure the area immediately around the rock is clear of flowers, weeds, sticks, or anything else that may be in the way.
Rocks will only dispense materials when there is space immediately around the rock. Even a simple item such as a flower can get a rock to stop dispensing materials. Once the space around the rock is clear, you should approach the rock at an angle then dig two holes behind you. Every time you strike the rock, you will be moved further from the rock a little bit.
