Animal Crossing New Horizons: How To Attract More Villagers To Your Island
Animal Crossing: New Horizons gives players a whole slew of new villagers to learn about. Here are some tips and tricks to attract some new neighbors.
One of the reasons Animal Crossing: New Horizons is so popular is because of the adorable neighbors in the game. There is a wide variety of animals that take on different personalities and personas to appeal to island representatives. Dedicated Animal Crossing players have their own favorites, while new players get to explore the personalities and styles each neighbor brings to the island.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons also brings players;some of the best animal personalities to the video game table. In addition to the characters that;Animal Crossing veterans know and love,Animal Crossing: New Horizons introduces new characters as well. One new character that stands out is Audie, a new wolf whose character is actually based on an 88-year-old grandma named Audrey and who is famous among the Animal Crossing Community.
It is a delight to see the new characters roaming the island, but how do players attract new neighbors? Luckily, attracting new villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is far easier than before. Players have multiple avenues to travel down in order to find the right villager for their island!
How To Get More Villagers
As you develop the island, more villagers will want to make their home there. But you get a say in who moves in and where they live. If you want a villager to move in, pick a spot for a future home to be built.
First thing to note, as you naturally progress through unlocking new features on the island, Tom Nook will eventually have you build and help furnish three houses for incoming villagers. Once youve built and placed all the furniture for once house and check in with Tom Nook, youll see a sold sign appear on the lot with the name of the incoming villager.
This may seem randomized, but you do have a chance at reserving a spot for a specific villager. Use the Nook Miles Tickets to fly to Mystery Islands, and if you see a random villager camping out that you like, tell them to visit your island next – and theres a big chance theyll be the ones reserving a spot in the furnished houses.
However, once these spots are taken, you wont be able to get new villagers for a little bit longer. Once Resident Services has been upgraded to a building, talk to Tom Nook again about more plans for developing your island, and hell have to look into crafting a Campground.
With the Campground, a random villager can come visit your town – and Isabelle will announce if theres currently anyone occupying the camp site. Unfortunately, the villager that shows up the day after the campground is built will join your town no matter what, so hopefully you like them.
Sell Plots Of Land To Unknown Characters
Once you’ve progressed for around a week and upgraded Resident Services from a tent to a proper building, Tom Nook will give you the option to sell plots of land to unseen prospective buyers. These plots cost 10,000 Bells each and you must choose a location for them like any other building or construction, but after a while a new character will move in.

Travel To A Mystery Island
In addition to being the perfect place to gather Iron Nuggets, Mystery Islands double as the best places to find new villagers. You can purchase a Nook Miles ticket from the Nook Stop in Resident Services for 2,000 Nook Miles. Once purchased, take it to Orville at Dodo Airlines, and heâll charter you a flight to a Mystery Island. These randomly generated islands have unique species with extra resources and an exclusive villager you can chat up and invite. Occasionally, these islands also might be infested with tarantulas.
After landing on the island, speak to the villager there twice to recruit them to your island. Be warned, this is a random villager. If youâre looking for a specific villager, the other two methods might be a bit more useful for your needs.

The Fastest Way To Get Rid Of A New Horizon’s Villager
The first step;in this process of getting rid of a villager in;ACNH;is identifying;a time when the;targeted villager is typically outside. This can be done through standard gameplay, and it is critical that players are using that time when they are time traveling, as they will not be able to kick out a villager if they are not outside. When that time is identified, the following steps should be taken:
One final thing to mention about this method for getting rid of villagers in;Animal Crossing: New Horizons;is that players can use the date that they identify in Step 5 as many times as they want in order to kick out multiple villagers. This will not only be useful for players that want to get rid of a number of villagers, but also for those that are looking to trade villagers in;ACNH, and indeed fans should make sure to keep a record of that date.

How To Customise Your Character In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
New Horizons broke the frustrating Animal Crossing tradition by replacing the appearance quiz with a character customisation screen.
Rather than having the appearance of facial features being decided after talking to a cat, you can literally just pick your nose .
Youll be able to decide your:
- Skin colour
Can You Make Villagers Leave
As we mentioned, ignore the villager as much as possible. Just talking to them gives you more friendship points. Instead push them around by running into them and give them garbage or spoiled turnips as a gift. With this method you should be able to get a new villager to move out in about five days. When theyre fully disgruntled, a cloud will stay over their head. This is an indicator that its a good time to talk to them. They may ask you if they should leave the island and you can encourage them to do so.
Hitting villagers with a net will make them leave faster, but it may also cause them to talk to you. Doing so will keep them from wanting to leave so you should not do that. The same can be said of complaining to Isabelle, this does not work either. Isabelle can only make them change outfits or their speech patterns, neither of which is effective at making people leave.
And thats it! Hopefully this helps you get settled into your new;Animal Crossing: New Horizons island!

Using The Campsite And Amiibo Cards
If you’ve built the campsite and have Animal Crossing amiibo cards you can invite specific villagers to your island and hopefully convince them to move in. Thing is, if you already have 10 occupied houses on your island, then you’ll have to choose which of your current residents gets the boot to make way for the camper you’ve just invited.
Visiting campers can be really hard to convince, though. You’ll likely need to invite them to your island at least three times and craft souvenirs for them each day they visit. Make sure to check in with them multiple times each day to see if they’re willing to move in permanently. I had to invite Flora three days in a row and craft her some furniture each day, before she became interested in staying. But, then I was able to choose which of my villagers I kicked off of my island to make way for her.

How To Get Characters To Live On Your Island
To get more characters to come live on your island in Animal Crossing New Horizons you’ll need to consider the following options:
We’ll go into more info on each of these options below. Read on to find out exactly how to invite more characters to your island.
How To Get More Residents On Your Animal Crossing Island
At the start of the game you’ll need to invite 3 new villagers to kickstart development of your island and access every part. The exact criteria for attracting these new characters is a little hazy at the moment.
For example, we only met one new character while on expedition yet on Day 3 Tom Nook announced that three parties were interested in coming to live on our island. We had been busy building the Museum, upgrading our tent to a house and generally making our island attractive, though.
Still, we want more characters! Let’s look at ways to attract new villagers to your island.

Can You Change Your Name
Creating your character in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a big deal, as it is not only how you see yourself, but also how others will see you in the game. Your name also is part of that, whether you are wanting to go with your real name or give your created character and original name.
One of the first things you are asked to do in the game by Timmy and Tommy Nook is to pick your name. However, the big stipulation here is that the name you pick now is the name you will be stuck with. While there are some other things that you can change later in the game like your appearance, your Villagers name is permanent.
The only real way to actually change your name in Animal Crossing: New Horizons would be to actually reset the island as a whole by starting the whole game over again. If you are interested in how to do that, we have another guide covering that topic right here.
Considering that is a big ordeal that wipes out all of your progress to date, you probably will not want to go that route. As a result, make sure you take your time and pick the perfect name that you will be happy with. Just remember that you cannot include personal info or offensive words when setting your name.

How To Transfer Animal Crossing Save Data Guide
For around eight months after launch, it was impossible for players to transfer their Animal Crossing: New Horizons island from one Nintendo Switch to another. Once you began a save file on a Switch, your island was tied permanently to that console a sizeable problem if you bought a new Switch, for instance.
Nintendo announced that a solution was coming eventually and, thankfully, it arrived in November 2020.

There are two types of Animal Crossing data transfers available. If youve got yourself a brand new Switch and want to transfer absolutely everything to the new console, youll want to choose Entire Island Transfer. As youd expect from the title, this moves your entire island and save file including all residents to the new console.
Here are more details from Nintendo:
Entire Island TransferUse this feature if you wish to transfer the entire island and all residents to a new Nintendo Switch system. The island, all progress and customizations, your animal neighbors, the island resident representative, and any other residents that have been created on the island will be transferred.
This feature is helpful if you are replacing your Nintendo Switch system with a new one and all players who have played Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be using the new Nintendo Switch system. It is also the only way to transfer your island resident representative when you have not backed up your island.

Adopting Villagers From Other Players’ Islands
Whenever a villager is planning on leaving an island, it will take them a full day to pack up their things before they actually leave. The internet has dubbed this as a villager being in boxes. If you happen to visit another person’s island while a villager is in this packing state, you can invite the homeless villager to live on your own island. However, you won’t be able to adopt them if you already have 10 villagers.
Mystery Tour Villager Recruitment
|Before Resident Services Event||Peppy, Lazy, Normal types appearVillagers you recruit will come live in the plots you set up|
|After Resident Services Event||Don’t spawn if you’re at the cap|
Personality Types Change According To Your Progress
The villagers which appear on Mystery Island Tours will change according to your in-game progress. If you go on the tour prior to completing the Resident Services Event with the 3 houses, you’ll only be able to get Peppy, Lazy, and Normal type villagers. After you complete this event, all 8 personality types will become available.
When Capped, Have A Villager Leave
When you’re at the maximum number of villagers , Mystery Tour Islands won’t spawn villagers. However, if you have one of your villagers move out, their house will become a vacant lot and you’ll be able to find villagers on Mystery Tour islands during that period.

Campsite Villagers In Animal Crossing
The campsite in Animal Crossing is a site on the island that allows villagers who don’t live on the island to visit it and stay for a while. While the other villagers build houses on the island and set up a more permanent residence , if there’s no space on the island or they haven’t been invited to stay, these villagers need somewhere to at least stay temporarily. That’s when they go to the campsite. The campsite always exists on an island.
I’ve not played Animal Crossing in aaages, I went on this morning just to have a mooch and I have Dobie in my Campsite!
Villagers who reside in the campsite have two options: to eventually leave or to join the island. The latter can only be done when invited by the player and if there’s space on the island. If players invite a certain villager to their campsite three separate days and complete the villager’s DIY requests each time, the player can then invite the villager to stay on the island.
This will allow the player to move the villager to the island permanently. The villager will then begin construction on his or her house and be able to contribute to the island. The campsite method is more difficult and random than the mystery island method where players invite villagers from the tours to live on their islands.

How To Get Villagers To Your Island
Theres no quick answer for this, especially early in the game like you probably are right now. Starting out on your deserted island you will have two villagers, but more will come through playing the game normally. Tom Nook helps the most, giving you tasks to complete that will help build up your island. While you do this the island will grow naturally and visitors will show up who might want to move in. After that intro phase there are a feww ways to get more villagers though.
Using your Nook Miles Ticket will take you to a mysterious island where you can usually run into a villager who might be willing to move to your island. You get one for free and can but more for 3000 Nook Miles, so give them a shot if you want to get this done quickly.
Expanding and growing the island by exploring beyond the starting area, then clearing it of weeds is a good start. Also opening buildings like the museum and other businesses will attract new villagers who might show up and just wander around. If they do, be sure to talk to them and try to befriend them if you want them to stay. Beyond that theres one theory on how to get more villagers, but it hasnt yet been found in the game.
Otherwise you now know how to get villagers to your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, at least all we know so far. And if you were wondering, heres how many villagers you can have total.
