Animal Crossing: New Horizons: Island Residents
When you begin your new life in Animal Crossing: New Horizons you’ll start with just two villagers joining you on your not-so-deserted island. However, in order to make progress and turn your paradise into a bustling hub of activity, you will need to attract new villagers to your Animal Crossing island. In fact, it’s a vital part of expanding your island – new residents are a requirement to access the ladder and the entire raised back half of your island, so it is best to heed K.K. Slider’s advice and make new friends.
In this guide we’ll cover the best ways to attract characters to your Animal Crossing island, including visiting random islands, building a campsite and using amiibo cards.
Animal Crossing Guide: How To Get New Villagers Befriend Them And Make Them Leave
Getting the right villagers on your island can be tricky, we show you how
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you can have up to 10 villagers on your island, not including the various visitors and NPCs like Flick, Isabelle and Tom Nook. However, theres close to 400 villagers in the game, and there are a few specific ways you can hunt around to get the ones you want. If youre not careful, youll get villagers you absolutely hate instead, but dont worry, this guide has you covered on what to do there as well.
How To Kick Out Villagers In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
There are a lot of villagers with unique personalities. Its only natural that with time, you develop affection for other personality villagers. In addition to that, Nintendo has not introduced many dialogues for villagers in ACNH. This makes players more eager to get rid of them.
However, for some users, its already too late, and they cant invite new villagers. Sadly, the only option is to kick your old residents to build up more space for new ones. Theres a 15-day cooldown for your villagers to ask you to leave if a new villager has arrived on your island. Interestingly, if you decline their request to leave, there is a 5-day cooldown for your other villager to ask you to leave.
In case the thought bubble appears in your favorite villagers head, then its best not to talk to them. Surprisingly, if you play enough on that day, the thought bubble will transfer to another villager.

Another splendid option is to use the time travel feature. You can just change your date and time in your Nintendo Switch to 15 days and look for villagers with a thought bubble in their heads. In case its your favorite villager, then just simply change the date to the next day and kick them out.

How To Recruit Nook Miles Ticket Islands Villagers In Animal Crossing New Horizons
To recruit new villagers from Nook Miles Ticket islands in Animal Crossing New Horizons, you first have to purchase a Nook Miles Ticket from Nook Stop Terminal in Resident Services. Itll cost you 2,000 Nook Miles for one of these. With that ticket, go to the airport and fly to one of these islands. They are usually deserted, relatively small, and seem to generate randomly. You can gather resources here. Among other stuff, theres Foreign Fruit, which you can sell at home for a whole lot of Bells. You can also dig up a whole Foreign Tree and plant it on your island.
More importantly, you can meet random people here that you can talk to and recruit them to move to your village. You can do this after you unlock the option to place plots for new villagers, around Day 4. If they agree to come, you have to go back home, build a bridge and start preparing a home for them. This whole process eventually leads you to finally unlock the Ladder in Animal Crossing New Horizons.
It will take about a day for the home to be complete. Then, youll have to wait another day for the new villager to arrive. Of course, you can always use time travel to advance the game, if you dont want to wait. We explain how to do this in our How to Time Travel in Animal Crossing New Horizons guide.
Animal Crossing New Horizons: How To Get Rid Of Villagers You Dont Like
Getting rid of villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is especially tricky. Here are some tips and tricks to get rid of those horrible villagers.
The delightful world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons gives players a chance to have the most adorable neighbors. Every villager in the game is a different animal with a different personality. These animals will give players different ideas for how to improve the island, share items, and maintain a positive attitude that keeps players intrigued by the game. However, much like any other neighborhood, there are some neighbors that make players frown.
Veterans to the game will be able to tell you who is their favorite neighbor. Although each addition to the series has introduced new neighbors, there are a few staple neighbors in the game that players know and love. However, that also means there are villagers that some players just despise. Whether it be because the animal is not as cute as players wanted or because the villagers attitude is frustrating, players have the option to remove villagers from their island.

Animal Crossing: How To Get The New Sanrio Villagers And Furniture In New Horizons
New Horizons’ 1.9.0 update has added a range of Sanrio-inspired villagers and other items here’s how to get them in your game.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ 1.9.0 update has added a variety of new content to the game, but the most notable additions are all the new Sanrio-inspired villagers, furniture, and clothing. These characters and items are tied to the Animal Crossing Sanrio Amiibo cards, so you’ll need to have those on hand before you can invite the villagers and order the furniture in your game.
The Sanrio Amiibo cards first launched in Japan and Europe in 2017 following Animal Crossing: New Leaf’s big Welcome Amiibo update. The card set was not originally available in the US, but they went on sale stateside at Target stores starting March 26 . The pack costs $6 and contains all six Sanrio Amiibo cards, each of which unlocks villagers and items themed after popular Sanrio characters like Hello Kitty and My Melody.
If you’ve previously imported the Sanrio Amiibo cards, you’ll be able to use those now to unlock the new villagers and items in New Horizons otherwise, you’ll need to wait until later this month to pick up a pack up once they go on sale in the US. Once you have the cards, here’s how to get the new Sanrio villagers and furniture.
Visit Other Deserted Islands
The best way to get new people to live on your island early on is to buy Nook Miles Tickets and fly to other islands. To do so, head to the Nook Stop terminal located at Resident Services. You can purchase a ticket for 2000 Miles. Take it to the airport and select ‘I wanna fly’. Then, select ‘Use Nook Miles Ticket’. This will take you to another deserted island where you can find new characters wandering around. Speak to the twice to get the option to invite them.

Randomly Swap With A Villager When At Max
In order to recruit new villagers that arrive at your Campsite, you’ll need to have an empty spot available for them. If you’re at the limit of villagers on your island, one villager will be selected at random to be replaced with the new recruit.
You Can Refuse A Trade
Although the villager selected will be random, you will still have the final say in whether you want to swap the two villagers. Even if you refuse this particular trade, you’ll still have the option to try to recruit the villager again later.
Once The Replacement Villager Is Decided, It Can’t Be Changed
The new villager you’re trying to recruit will suggest one specific villager to kick out, and once this villager has been decided, it can’t be changed! You can bypass this, however, by shutting down the game before the dialogue finishes. Animal Crossing autosaves at the end of conversations, so if you press the Home button and close the game, you’ll be able to try this over and over.
When you see the name of the villager they want to kick out , shut down and reset the game!
Travel To A Mystery Island
In addition to being the perfect place to gather Iron Nuggets, Mystery Islands double as the best places to find new villagers. You can purchase a Nook Miles ticket from the Nook Stop in Resident Services for 2,000 Nook Miles. Once purchased, take it to Orville at Dodo Airlines, and heâll charter you a flight to a Mystery Island. These randomly generated islands have unique species with extra resources and an exclusive villager you can chat up and invite. Occasionally, these islands also might be infested with tarantulas.
After landing on the island, speak to the villager there twice to recruit them to your island. Be warned, this is a random villager. If youâre looking for a specific villager, the other two methods might be a bit more useful for your needs.

All of the new villagers were added to Series 5 of the Animal Crossing Amiibo cards, along with the new NPCs that joined the game in the 2.0 update. Amiibo cards are the most sure-fire way to get a specific new villager to move to the island, though they are an extra expense. There are 48 Amiibo cards in Series 5, however, so players will need to be lucky enough to pull one from a pack. Players can use Amiibo cards to invite villagers to their campsite and try to convince them to move in. Getting an Amiibo villager to move in, takes three days work as they will ask players to craft them an item each day before the player can invite them to move to the island.
Villagers can also be found at random on Island Tours if the player has space on their Animal Crossing island for another villager to move in. If the players island already has 10 villagers, they will no longer appear on island tours. With more than 400 villagers now in Animal Crossing, this method will take a bit of luck, patience, and plenty of Nook Miles.
New villagers also have a chance of visiting a players campsite at random, and players can get them to move to the island if theyre lucky enough to win a guessing card game. However, if they guess incorrectly, theyll miss their chance of getting the new villager and will have to wait until they get lucky again.
How To Get Your First Three New Villagers In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
In previous Animal Crossing games, villagers would simply move into your town and set up a house. New Horizons, however, has changed this system to make it more in keeping with the deserted island theme of the game.
When you first arrive on your island, you’ll be accompanied by two villagers and, as you slowly progress through the game, you’ll be able to invite more villagers to your island.
The maximum number of villagers you can have living on your island is 10.
The first time you’ll be able to invite new villagers to your island will be after Nook’s Cranny opens. Tom Nook will give you three housing kits to place around the island.
Once you’ve decided where to place these kits, you’ll next have to build three pieces of interior furniture and three pieces of exterior furniture for the villager whose house this will be.
After crafting this furniture, your new villagers will settle on your island one day after the other. This means that if you build all the furniture in one day, then it will take three days for each villager to arrive.
This is the only time you’re required to build furniture to make villagers move to your island. Instead, you simply have to set aside a plot of land for them to live on.
How to set aside a plot of land for a villager’s house
Setting aside a plot of land for a new villager will cost you 10,000 bells.
You’ll also be rewarded with some Nook Miles once they move in.

How To Become Best Friends With A Villager In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Although it’s hidden away, there is a friendship mechanic in New Horizons, which will allow you to become best friends with your favourite villagers. You can mark your friendship progress with villagers by the various interactions you will gradually unlock.
These interaction include:
- Being able to give them gifts
- A villager will offer to sell you an item
- A village giving you a nickname
- Being able to change their catchphrase
- Being able to change their greeting
- A villager will approach you to buy an item
You’ll know when you’ve truly become best friends with a villager, because they will give you a framed photo, which you can display in your house. These are not to be confused with the posters you can unlock at , which don’t have frames.
There are a variety of activities that you can do to help you increase your friendship level with a villager, such as:
- Talking to them every day
- Ridding them of fleas
- Selling them any item they offer to buy
- Gifting them items
- Giving them a birthday present
- Giving a villager medicine when they’re sick
- Completing villager quests
Villager quests are activities that will occur randomly throughout your time playing the game, but are more likely to occur the friendly you’re with a villager. These quests can be anything from catching a specific bug or fish to a treasure hunt. You might also find a lost item on your island that needs returning to its owner.

How To Invite New Villagers With Amiibo
One of the main things you can do with Animal Crossing Amiibo cards is invite characters to live on your island — making this the easiest way to get a specific villager to move in . However, the process is a little involved, and it requires you to first invite the character to your campsite. Here’s what to do.
How To Get Rid Of Villagers
Thankfully, its nothing as grim as the picture above would lead you to believe. You cant just whack a villager on the head and bury their lifeless body in that one spot you know where the ground is soft, wrapped in a carpet youve painstakingly crafted yourself.
Instead, what youll want to do is go to resident services and talk to Isabelle. One of the options she offers is to discuss a resident. Pick that and make a complaint. After a while, this will make the landlords evict said villager, and youll be free to invite another in their stead. If youre impatient, you can try making several complaints in a row.
If you have no idea who Isabell is, you probably havent progressed through the story enough. She appears after a certain point and takes over Resident Services after youve upgraded it.
While youre waiting for security to throw out the poor bastard, you can kill time by trading turnips on the Stalk Market, trading fruit using Dodo codes, or catching wasps and selling them for profit. Although why anyone would buy wasps is entirely beyond me, the Nooks seem to be happy with buying suspicious amounts of the aggressive little critters. Those people are up to something.

How To Kick Out Villagers With Time Travel
This method requires you to time-travel. If you do not wish to do so, then read the other methods below instead.
|Check which villager has the thought bubble again.|
|9||If its the right one, talk to them and encourage them to leave. If not, repeat from step 6.|
|10||They will be in boxes the next day, and will leave the island the day after that.|
You dont necessarily need to skip to 1 PM, but we recommend it as its the time most villagers are outside.
Keep in mind that this method may take anywhere from minutes to hours, as the villager who gets the thought bubble will be random.
Step 6 can be any time
The point of step 6 is to reset the game and get to the broadcast as fast as possible.
If youre not sure you can reset it within a minute, you can set it to 4:58 or 4:57 to make sure you make it in time.
