What Are Pearls Used For
Pearls are a material, and their main function at this time is to craft furniture from the Mermaid set. Every recipe in the set requires at least on Pearl, and sometimes even more. At this time, other sets don’t require Pearls for their DIY recipes… but given how rare they are, that’s probably for the best.
You can also sell the Pearls, but like Gold Nuggets, that’s not the best use for them.
What Can You Do With Pearls
Currently, there are only a couple of things you can do with pearls – which, considering their scarcity, is perfectly fine with us:
- Use ascrafting materials in recipes for the new Mermaid Series of furniture
- Sell for 10,000 Bells to Timmy and Tommy
- Not recommended, as – similar to gold – they are highly rare, and worth more as a crafting material
And there you have it – everything you could ever possibly want to know about pearls in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Have you found any pearls yet, or crafted with them? Let us know down below!

How To Spot Pearls Easily
Pearls might be slightly more difficult to find, given their rarity. But players must also know exactly what they’re looking for. Players can easily spot pearls by tracking the bubbles in the sea. Using this trick will make the expedition seamless.
Usually, bubbles sway wildly when it comes to deep-sea creatures. But not with pearls. In pearls, the bubbles are relatively lesser and appear mostly in a straight upward pattern. Furthermore, the shadow of a pearl will always be somewhat small.
With Pascal, however, chances of getting a pearl are more frequent. Although the method might be tiresome, one can keep time-traveling to meet Pascal and trade scallops for pearls.
As of now, this is one of the most reliable ways of getting pearls more frequently in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Apart from using these pearls to craft Mermaid set items, one can also sell these pearls. However, that is not the best use of the item.

The first Animal Crossing: New Horizons summer update is live and has brought a plethora of new underwater creatures with it. Specifically, players can now find Pearls while diving in the water, which can be used to craft Mermaid DIY recipes. If youd like to craft some of those recipes, youre going to need a handful of the shiny objects. So, in this guide, we are going to give you a quick rundown on how to get Pearls in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

How To Get Animal Crossing Pearls
To get Pearls in Animal Crossing New Horizons, you can either dive for them, or trade with Pascal. Either way, youre going to have to dive. So, make sure to check your mailbox after you update the game, and you should find a snorkel in there as a gift from the developers. Alternatively, purchase one from Nook. After that, its time to go diving. Heres what you have to do.
As you swim around, look for the little bubbles on the surface. Once you find them, dive down and grab whatever is down there. If youre lucky, itll be a pearl. More likely, however, youre going to find a bunch of other items, because what you find at the ocean floor is pretty much random. For example, youre probably going to run into some Scallops, which brings us to our next point.
The second method of getting pearls in Animal Crossing is trading with Pascal, the friendly red otter. You can interact with it once a day to offer a scallop and get a rare Mermaid item in return, as well as a pearl. The drops are also random, and if Pascal does give you a pearl, that means that you arent getting Mermaid items. Its a bit of a trade-off, but thats how the cookie crumbles. And, since you can only interact with Pascal once a day, you might want to use time travel to game the system to your advantage.
Farming Or Grinding For Pearls
There’s no official way to farm pearls or grind for pearls in New Horizons that doesn’t require “time traveling,” or adjusting the system clock on your Nintendo Switch to force-skip days. If you decide to time travel, the only possible way to get more pearls would be to grind for sea creatures until you get your daily Pascal encounter.
Nothing about the time or day seems to affect the likelihood that Pascal will give you a pearl, so this would just be a way to exhaust numerous Pascal encounters in one sitting with the hopes of getting pearls. Again, it is time-consuming, some players consider it cheating, and your turnips will not survive the time skip, so proceed at your own risk.

How To Spot Pearl Bubbles & Shadows
Theres no way to guarantee catching a Pearl, but there are a few simple tips you can follow to help spot one when youre swimming and diving for Sea Cratures.
For starters, the shadow of a Pearl is relatively small and will never move. But the best way to spot Pearls is to keep an eye on the bubble behavior of creatures in the sea!
Specifically, weve found that the Pearl always has a relatively low amount of bubbles rising from the sea floor and in a mostly straight pattern upwards. The bubbles for Pearls dont seem to wildly wave from side to side, like some other Sea Creatures do.

Tips To Find Pearls In Animal Crossing
Finding pearls in Animal Crossing isnt easy because you are far more likely to find random sea creatures like sea slugs and anemones. Here are some tips to keep in mind when diving for pearls:
- Pearls typically have small shadows.
- Pearls typically generate fewer bubbles, and the bubbles dont wave around a lot.
- If a shadow moves around a lot, it isnt a pearl.
- Ignore shadows that clearly arent pearls to speed up your search.
- Press the A button repeatedly to swim faster while looking for pearls.
- Pearls come from oysters in real life, but you cant get them from oysters or pearl oysters in Animal Crossing. Feel free to donate those to the museum or sell them.
- Pascal will only trade one scallop per day, so dont hoard your scallops. Feel free to donate or sell them as you like.
