How To Remove Villagers And Make Them Leave In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Maybe youve had enough of their personality or maybe you just dont like their face , either way, at some point a villager you dont like might move onto your island.
Its important to note that discussing a resident with Isabelle in Residential Services does not work towards evicting a villager. Instead, this simply allows you to reset a villagers catchphrase or clothing if you no longer like what theyre wearing or saying. Ignoring villagers and hitting them with a net also wont encourage them to leave.
Getting rid of villagers in New Horizons is a tricky process that mostly revolves around chance and waiting for villagers to decide that they want to leave. We do, however, have a couple tips that will help you control your islands population.
Look for villagers with thought bubbles above their heads
At some point youll find one of your villagers walking around with a puzzled expression on their face and a thought bubble floating above their head.
If you talk to them, theres a chance theyll explain that theyre considering moving. During this conversation, youll have the chance to encourage them to either leave or stay.
If you tell them to stay, then theyll continue living on your island as if nothing has ever happened. Telling them to leave, however, will cause them to pack up their house the next day, followed by them leaving their island and creating an empty plot of land.

Dispelling Rumors About Removing Villagers In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
I have three villagers that I want to keep and seven that I would like to rid of. In my search for information on how to get rid of villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, I’ve found an awful lot of theorizing and conjecturebut very little evidence.
As best I can tell, there was no evidence that any of the following will help speed up removing villagers in Animal Crossing:
- Ignoring villagers
- Hitting villagers with nets
- Talking to Isabelle about a villager’s language or clothing
These three items were common suggestions that I’ve seen. I had seen zero evidence that any of these work until a dataminer revealed more details about how the mechanics work.
Now, we know for certain that lowering your friendship level is a factor if you want to get rid of villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. So yes, if there’s someone in your town that you don’t want hanging around, don’t get all chummy with them!
Bullying Villagers Can Possibly Decrease Friendship
In previous games, you could evict residents by annoying and bullying them.
This included pushing them into pitfalls, whacking them with a net anything to decrease your friendship with them until they decide to move out.
This isn’t confirmed in New Horizons, doing these things only anger them for a while.
However, it’s very likely that their friendship does decrease. It just doesn’t have any effect on them thinking about moving out!

Why Would You Want A Villager To Leave
There are many reasons you’d want a villager to leave in Animal Crossing New Horizons. Some of the ones you’ll get are completely random, and if you have your eye on someone else, you’ll need to make space. If you don’t like how the villager acts or dresses, or maybe just don’t want them on your island, there are at least options to get them to leave. For more on how many villagers you can have on your island at once, head here.
How To Catch A Flea In Animal Crossing
You can catch the flea right off of their bodies using a net. You can do so by holding down the A button while standing at a very short distance from the villager to hit the fleas with the net. They might look a bit sad at first, but should be relieved later on. You can sell these flees for 70 Bells, which doesnt seem a lot however, there is a Nook Mileage achievement for nabbing them.

Ask Isabel To Kick Them Off
Once youve expanded your resident services and Isabel joins the staff, you can complain to her about other villagers. Every chance you get, tell Isabelle about why the other residents are bothering you. Again, there is no definitive way to tell if this forces villagers off the island for sure. According to USG, it took three straight days of complaining about a specific resident before they asked to leave.
Villagers come and go in Animal Crossing, but they’re one of the best parts of the game. The relationships you make with other villagers and some of the off-the-wall or incredibly thought-provoking things that spill out of their mouths are unforgettable. Yes, some of them may get in your way from time to time, but relationships are about give and take. And, in the end, Animal Crossing is about building a community. If you really need to execute the vision youve been calculating for the last eight years, try the cooperative route before you turn into the town bully. Or just play DOOM instead.
Talk To Villagers To Moving Out
This method takes longer than the method above, as you do not need to time-travel.
|If not, check all your villagers again the next day|
|4||Once you get the right villager to think about moving out, don’t stop them and encourage them to move.|
|5||The villager will be in boxes the next day, and will leave the island the day after that.|
Keep in mind that the thought bubble state lasts 3 to 5 days.
1. Find the villager who is thinking about moving
Sometimes, you can find random villagers wandering around outside deep in thought, with a thought bubble above their head.
This is often a sign that they are thinking about moving!
If you ignore it and continue to check the following days, there’s a chance the thought bubble will transfer to another random villager.
If you want to kick out a specific villager, wait until they have the thought bubble. Anyone can think about moving out, regardless of your friendship level.
2. Talk to the villager with the thought bubble
If the villager you want to leave appears with a thought bubble, talk to them to check if they want to move out.
If they do, choose the option that doesn’t stop them and encourages them to move out!
|Advice||When aiming for a villager to move out, ignore all thought bubbles from other villagers. If you accidentally talk to a different villager and they talk about moving out, the move out thought bubble will disappear and you’ll have to wait for it to come back.|
3. The villager will prepare to leave

How To Get Rid Of Villagers On Your Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island
There is a rumor circulating that you cant kick out the original members out of your island. Well, if at all that exists, you can always use your Amiibo card to do it.
Once youve decided which villager you are planning to get rid of, you just need not give any attention to him/her. Do not indulge yourself with them, or try to do any activity around them.
You could also try fencing their house. This will lock them out of their house, making them roam around the village and eventually leave it.
While you do this, make sure you keep interacting with the other members of your island, who you dont want to get rid of. While this still cant hold back the villagers who are willingly trying to leave, you can at least be assured that you tried your best to keep them.

Dust Off Your Animal Crossing Amiibo Cards
All of those adorable Animal Crossing amiibo cards that you either just collected or have had on your shelf for a few years can finally be put to good use. All you need to know is how to use Animal Crossing amiibo.
Once the campsite has been built on your island, run to the Nook Stop kiosk and invite an animal to your campsite. You’ll then need to scan your amiibo by hovering it over the joystick on your right Joy-Con. Shortly thereafter, you’ll discover that a new camper has appeared on your island. Talk to them and convince them to move in.
Instead of playing games with them, you will need to convince them by crafting multiple items for them and inviting them back several days in a row. Make sure to talk to them multiple times while they are on your island. If you already have 10 villagers on your island then you’ll get to decide who gets removed to make way for the new resident. More on that later.

Randomly Swap With A Villager When At Max
In order to recruit new villagers that arrive at your Campsite, you’ll need to have an empty spot available for them. If you’re at the limit of villagers on your island, one villager will be selected at random to be replaced with the new recruit.
You Can Refuse A Trade
Although the villager selected will be random, you will still have the final say in whether you want to swap the two villagers. Even if you refuse this particular trade, you’ll still have the option to try to recruit the villager again later.
Once The Replacement Villager Is Decided, It Can’t Be Changed
The new villager you’re trying to recruit will suggest one specific villager to kick out, and once this villager has been decided, it can’t be changed! You can bypass this, however, by shutting down the game before the dialogue finishes. Animal Crossing autosaves at the end of conversations, so if you press the Home button and close the game, you’ll be able to try this over and over.
When you see the name of the villager they want to kick out , shut down and reset the game!

How To Remove Villagers From Your Town
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is full of adorable little villagers that will come live on your island town with you. Unfortunately, you dont always get to choose who moves in – and maybe you need a change of pace. Luckily, there is a way to get rid of villagers in Animal Crossing.
This page includes two known methods that may cause villagers to leave your island, as well as debunking unproven methods for affecting a villager’s decision.
Invite Villagers With Amiibo Cards
How To Make Villager Leave With Amiibo Cards
|Recruit via the Campsite|
In-Game Events And Free Recruitment
The recruitment of some villagers will be ‘mandatory’ and included in a series of in-game events that you have to complete. However, after these initial 6, recruitment of the remaining 4 possible villagers will be entirely optional and can be done at your own pace!
Using The Campsite And Amiibo Cards
If you’ve built the campsite and have Animal Crossing amiibo cards you can invite specific villagers to your island and hopefully convince them to move in. Thing is, if you already have 10 occupied houses on your island, then you’ll have to choose which of your current residents gets the boot to make way for the camper you’ve just invited.
Visiting campers can be really hard to convince, though. You’ll likely need to invite them to your island at least three times and craft souvenirs for them each day they visit. Make sure to check in with them multiple times each day to see if they’re willing to move in permanently. I had to invite Flora three days in a row and craft her some furniture each day, before she became interested in staying. But, then I was able to choose which of my villagers I kicked off of my island to make way for her.
Bludgeon Them In The Head
As it turns out, nets arent just for catching butterflies. Walk up to the villager you want exiled and start beating them over the head with your bug catcher. Once theyre sufficiently bruised, theyll express how angry they are or storm off. Its hard to tell if this technique actually gets people off your island, but theres no way it makes them want to stay.
