Go back and report to Nook that you’ve placed the bridge somewhere on the island. He’ll inform you that he needs your help picking out decent locations for each of the new residents that are on their way. Now you’ll need to run around the island and stake out future homes for each of these newcomers. Once each of the three future homesites has been claimed, Tom Nook will call and tell you that he’s sent you a recipe for a ladder.

Animal Crossing Ladder Step 3
Return to Tom Nook at Resident Services, talk to him and he’ll give you three housing kits to place around the island which plot out space for your three new residents. You’ll have to craft furniture for the lazy animals before they move in, too, but you’ll find the ladder recipe in the list of items Nook sends to your phone.
After finding space for the second plot Nook will ring and remind you of the ladder recipe, so you can’t miss it.

Check The Recycle Box
Occasionally you could find hardwood in the recycle box located in the resident Services. Thats easily how to find hardwood in animal crossing without an axe.
On the other hand, should your island run out of trees, you can book a mystery island tour with 2,000 Nook miles. You will find many trees in the deserted island which you can strike for hardwood.
Animal Crossing Ladder Step 2
Nook informs you that the island needs a bridge and gives you the Bridge construction kit recipe:
- x4 log stakes
- x4 clay
- x4 stone
Once you have the necessary parts, craft the Bridge construction kit and find an appropriate spot to build it. Once selected it will be roped off until construction is complete the following day.

How To Get Your Island To A Three
Once you’ve upgraded Residential Services and built the campsite, your next goal will probably be to unlock terraforming by achieving a three-star rating. The way you do this is by following Isabelle’s advice when you ask her about island evaluations.
If you’re having trouble raising to a three-star level, here’s what my island had when I achieved a three-star ranking:
- 27 pieces of furniture outside with no duplicates
- 50 pieces of fencing
Always Hold A Net While You’re Shaking Trees
During your first day or two on the island, when you’re running around shaking trees to get sticks , wasp nests will occasionally fall from the branches. Find yourself on the wrong side of a stinger without medicine and you’ll pass out. Once you build the bug net, though, it’s a good rule of thumb to always hold it while you’re shaking trees. Not only can you catch vengeful wasps, but you can also snag spiders and other creepy-crawlers dislodged from their homes overhead.

How To Unlock The Shovel And Vaulting Pole
To get a Shovel, youll need to entice the museum curator Blathers to join your island. Since youve already been giving Tom Nook assorted fauna, make sure hes given a total of 5 bugs and/or fish, and Blathers will call – prompting you to place a spot down for his tent. Speak to Blathers the next day to get a recipe for the Flimsy Shovel. A Shovel can be used to dig up buried items, transplant trees and flowers, and strike rocks.
Along with the Shovel, youll also get a recipe for the Vaulting Pole. This item doesnt break like the others, and you can use it to quickly cross rivers with ease – both on your island and on mystery islands.
How To Use An Axe In Animal Crossing
As mentioned above, axes are tools in the Animal Crossing series. Primarily, they are used for cutting down trees in the players town. Striking a tree with an axe causes any object on the tree to fall. The tree then falls after the third strike.
After cutting down a tree, a stump remains. So, if you want to completely remove the tree, you will have to dig it out using a shovel.
An axe can be used in place of a shovel, i.e., for hiting rocks to find insects, bells and ore easily. Furthermore, axes are also essential for crafting; to chop wood.
However, axes do degrade. During the initial stages, cracks start to appear and become larger with time until the axe finally breaks. Axes used after Dbutsu no Mori can only be used a limited number of times before shattering.

How To Unlock Stone And Iron Axes
To get an Axe, you must first obtain the Flimsy Net and Flimsy Fishing Rod from Tom Nook. When he encourages you to show him any bugs or fish you find, give him at least two examples, and he will reward you with the recipe for the Flimsy Axe. An Axe has many uses, from cutting wood, to chipping rocks, and even cutting trees down, but youll need to get an upgraded recipe for an Iron Axe: more on that later.
Invite New Villagers To Your Island
As soon as you begin your island life, you’re going to want to start earning Nook Miles. These are just rewards given to you for completing specific tasks, whether that be catching a certain number of bugs, bagging a certain amount of fish, or even making a certain amount of money. Once you have 2,000 Nook Miles, head to Tom Nook’s green Resident Services tent and approach the green kiosk on the right side.
Here, you’ll need to access Nook Miles Rewards and purchase a Nook Miles Ticket for 2,000 Nook Miles. Now it’s time to head to the airport. Note that the airport isn’t available on your first day of playing the game. Talk to Orville behind the counter and let him know that you want to visit other islands using your Nook Miles Ticket.
Upon flying to another island, run around until you discover an animal NPC wandering about. Talk to them a couple of times until you get the opportunity to invite them to your island. You’ll need to visit three different islands and invite three different NPCs to your island to complete this portion.
While you’re on these islands, gather all the resources you can, especially the wood you get from hitting trees with your ax and the stone, clay, and iron you get from hitting rocks with an ax or shovel. You’re going to need it soon! Since you can never return to the same island, you don’t have to worry about cutting down trees or breaking rocks so pillage to your heart’s content.

How To Get The Ladder As Fast As Possible In Animal Crossing
Though you could technically get the Ladder in a couple of days, there are a lot of materials to farm to get there. If you want it as soon as your second day, there is a way – and that’s with the help of friends in multiplayer.
Simply put – once you have a friend who has unlocked a Ladder, they can craft one and post it to you provided you are Best Friends. As soon as you get the Ladder, it’s possible Nook Cranny can stock a DIY recipe for it also – which you can post to them, or have you come round to purchase yourself.
There is technically nothing ‘game-breaking’ about having the Ladder early – so if you’re keen to have it as soon as possible, there’s no reason not to. And a benefit of doing so is having access to different types of Fish, Insects, and more rocks and fossils to mine.
If you’re playing in the month of launch, it’s worth noting there is a type of Fish disappearing at the end of the month only found in the pool at the top of the cliffs – in case you needed another incentive to get a move on.
Quickly Pay Off Your Tent
Animal Crossing: New Horizons gives you a camping tent to start, instead of your typical house. As part of Nook Inc.s Deserted Island Getaway Package, it isnt something you need to pay off with the series usual currency . Instead, Tom Nook lets you pay off the trip with Nook Miles, achievement-like goals that steadily reward you for fishing, catching bugs, pulling weeds, and the other typical Animal Crossing activities. Rack up those miles as soon as Tom Nook shows you how, so you can pay off the package.
Paying off your tent gives you the opportunity to buy a house and unlock several other upgrades, including turning the Resident Services tent into a full-fledged shop.

Trees Are Your Friends
If you squint, theres a weird and potentially unsettling element of colonialism in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. After all, the game is about exploiting the resources of uncharted natural lands to help your consumer society thrive and expand. A great way to relieve your guilt, and help your economy, is to plant trees instead of chopping them down. Eventually space needs to be cleared to make room for new buildings. However, trees left standing provide valuable wood, tree branches, and fruit every day if you hit them with a stone ax, not a blade. That fruit gets especially valuable if you import new crops from foreign islands. Whoops, accidentally need another colonialism.
