Use A Stone Ax Not An Iron One
If we’ve learned anything over the past few millennia, it’s that iron cuts down trees better than stone does, right? Well, in Animal Crossing, you might not actually want to cut down your trees you might just want wood, soft wood or hard wood for crafting. Luckily, the stone ax extracts those types of wood without chopping down the tree.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons: Ladder Tool
So, you’ve already crafted your axe, shovel and vaulting pole to get yourself over rivers and explore your love new island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, yet there’s still that raised bit at the back that remains inaccessible.
You’ll need a ladder to climb up onto that higher ledge and get at the lovely flowers and cedars growing there, and you unlike some of the other tools, you’ll have to do a little bit of work before you get your hands on the ladder. As with all the other tools, you’ll first need to unlock the crafting recipe for the ladder before you can build it.

These recommendations prioritize having Resident Services at the center of the map, with a lake available for fishing from the first day. This is because the river can’t be crossed until the second day of play. If you want to fish in a lake, you’ll have to wait until the second day.
The river can only be crossed after getting the vaulting pole, which in turn requires Blather’s tent to be built.

How To Get The Ladder To Climb Ledges And Explore The Upper Levels Of Your Island
As we mentioned in our New Horizons review and elsewhere in places like our guide to making lots of money fast and expanding your inventory space, this entry in the Animal Crossing series has a more structured nature early on. It slowly introduces and layers in the traditional elements of the series over time, and part of that is limiting your movement around the island early on.
The Vaulting Pole that lets you cross rivers comes nice and early – so early that players probably won’t wonder where it is and how to cross rivers – but there really is a wait for the ladder, which lets you climb up the ledges on your island to reach the upper levels. Here’s the point at the game you need to reach to unlock the ladder…
Simply put, you’ll need to grow your island to progress to the ladder. That means you’ll need to progress past a tent to a brick-built home by paying off your tent with Nook Miles and then taking out a cash loan to have a house built. As you progress you’ll also likely build your first shop. Then you’ll need to invite some new villagers to live on your island beyond the initial two that you first arrive with.
How Can I Import Patterns Via Qr Code
Iâve seen tons of Animal Crossing: New Leaf patterns posted across the internet accompanied by QR codes, implying that thereâs a way to scan those QR codes in-game to import those designs. However, I canât find any sort of import feature in the game.
How can I scan QR codes in the game? Is it something that I have to unlock?
Usage of QR Codes is unlocked at the Able Sisters clothing shop after becoming friends with Sable. If youâve played previous entries in the Animal Crossing series, you might be familiar with this process: you simply chat with Sable at least once a day for a number of days, and she gradually becomes more friendly with you.
As far as I can recall, this is the first game in the series that rewards you for going through this friendship process.
Update: Iâve been speaking with Sable every day for 10 days, and now the QR machine has been unlocked today . I spoke to her for 10 consecutive days, so I do not know if this will also work if you skip a day. Lyle and Nook had a short conversation regarding the Able Sisters when I visited them yesterday â Iâm not sure if the friendship process unlocked that but I think it is probably an easter egg.
At any rate, the QR machine looks like a large sewing machine that sits on the back wall near Sable. When you attempt you interact with it, you will open dialog with Sable.
Instructions to read QR codes are as follows:
The displayed design will then become one of your 10 patterns.

Animal Crossing New Horizons: How To Make Bells Quickly
Youâll need Bells to pay for all manner of things while building up your island in Animal Crossing New Horizons.
Guideby Jake Green, Guides Editor
Bells return as the primary currency in Animal Crossing New Horizons. They are needed to pay off the various loans youâll get from Nook Inc., and to purchase certain items. Thereâs a wide range of methods of earning Bells, some being a lot faster than others. In this guide weâll show you the best and fastest ways to make Bells while playing. Letâs get started.

Pick Out Some Land For Your New Residents
Go back and report to Nook that you’ve placed the bridge somewhere on the island. He’ll inform you that he needs your help picking out decent locations for each of the new residents that are on their way. Now you’ll need to run around the island and stake out future homes for each of these newcomers. Once each of the three future homesites has been claimed, Tom Nook will call and tell you that he’s sent you a recipe for a ladder.

Make The Most Of The Hot Item: Turn Trash Into Bells
This isnt something youll do every single day, but its one to watch out for at least. Each day, Timmy and Tommy pay double for a certain item. Its always one you have the DIY recipe for, so you can almost always put this opportunity to good use. Im not going to suggest you burn through your supply of iron ore whenever they ask for a table, but its a good way to turn any excess or common materials into a decent payday. You have a lot of trees on your island, right? So if youre not using that wood for anything else, why not turn them into a load of benches, chairs, or beds whenever theyre paying out for them?
When you start to learn some more elusive recipes, you can even double the worth of something like gold nuggets. Though you can sell these for 10,000 bells a pop, using one to craft a hot item like the Golden Gears will immediately bump up the return to anywhere over 20,000 bells. That 2x increase can really add up.
Catch All The Fish And Bugs
Another early tip: Catch every animal you see — which pretty much consists of fish and bugs. Keep an eye on flowers for stinkbugs and mantises, snag butterflies in the groves, and shake trees and rocks to find pill bugs and spiders. Here’s how my colleague caught the elusive stringfish. As soon as you craft your first bug net and fishing pole, start handing over your collected critters to Tom Nook. Sure, you could sell these creatures to Timmy and Tommy, the island’s resident traders, but Tom Nook will send each unique discovery to his friend Blathers the owl, who lives off-island.
Long story short, after enough donations, Blathers the owl will come build a museum on the island and set you on to a much larger collection project, opening up the game considerably.

Consider The Path That The River Flows
You should also check out the river’s path when deciding on an island. Much like inclines, this can present an inconvenience to you in the very beginning of the game.
Upon obtaining a Vaulting Pole, you can jump over rivers in areas separated by just one space.
Once you’ve unlocked Island Designer, you will become able to freely change the island’s features, such as rivers, etc.

Give Gifts To Villagers
Generosity goes a long way. Once a villager is on your island for at least a week with frequent communication, you can begin giving them daily gifts and helping them with tasks as needed. More often than not, theyâll give you something in return, sometimes in the form of bells. Otherwise you can collect and sell the items that they give you.
Of course, they wonât give you a huge amount of bells, but all those little amounts will add up.
How To Get The Ladder In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
The Animal Crossing: New Horizons ladder is a crucial tool for getting around the island – particularly in the early stages, and when visiting Nook Miles Tickets islands.
Aim to get your little islander paws on the Animal Crossing: New Horizons ladder as soon as possible, because your brand new deserted island is actually split across several different levels. A brand new tool for the game, it’s an adorable little extending ladder that allows you to hop up to higher levels a bit like the pesky versions in Death Stranding actually but much more sturdy. You’re going to need it too, as your island will have at least one other level upon which to find more resources and expand your little settlement.
However, there’s a catch. You don’t get the ladder for quite some time in the game, meaning those upper levels both on your own island, and those you’ll visit using Nook Miles Tickets, are completely off-limits at first.

Get Inventory And Tool Upgrades
There are two vital upgrades you can get by spending additional Nook Miles after you pay off your tent. Go to the kiosk in the Resident Services tent after your package is paid off and buy the Better Tools DIY book and the Pocket Organization Guide as soon as theyre available. The former provides recipes for upgrading your tools beyond flimsy, and the latter adds an entire row to your inventory space.
How To Get Your Download Code For An Item And Share It
If youd like to share something youve made in Animal Crossing New Horizons you will need to generate a code for it. To do so, head to The Able Sisters shop and interact with the pink terminal at the farside of the shop. Here, you can upload designs, which will generate a code. Anyone you share that code with can then download your designs.

Animal Crossing New Horizons
One of the best features of Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the ability for players to make their own pixel art which translates into custom clothing options for characters or decorations you can use in your house or island.
The way the system works is that you design an image, save it, and then it gets translated into a QR code that you can scan and use.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Has Just Released For Nintendo Switch And Switch Lite Read On To Know How To Get Ladder In Animal Crossing With Detailed Steps
As the all-new deserted island is actually spread across a number of different levels, users will need to quickly get their hands on the Animal Crossing: New Horizons ladder. The feature has been newly added to the game, which allows users to reach higher grounds. You will need the new horizons ladder because the island will have one more level upon which you will be able to locate other resources and expand the settlement.
Unfortunately, you wont be able to get the ladder so early in the game. This means that the upper levels, including your own island, and the ones that you will be visiting will be off-limits at first.

Tips For Successful Living In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
If you want to get the most out of your chill island experience in Animal Crossing: New Horizons for the Nintendo Switch, follow our advice for building your residence and community.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons for the Nintendo Switch is a relaxing, free-form game that doesnt put much pressure on you to get anything done at any speed. The game’s early moments can feel a bit limiting, but there’s a lot to unlock in leisurely fashion. Still, you should perform some tasks quicker than others to open up your new island. Here are some tips for making the most out of your time in the game.
Make A Plan And Enact It
Make a map of your island, whether thats on paper or using a digital tool like Happy Island Designer. There, you can recreate your current island setup and your dream island setup, and use those two maps to plan out exactly how to move forward.
Creating the steps from there will be easy , based on your needs. Though there is a large portion of the community renovating their entire islands, I think its more likely that people will be clearing space for farms. For some, that might mean moving a home or two. For others, that could be cutting down trees and pulling up weeds and flowers.
Once an area is clear, you could just go ahead and leave the parcel of land empty until the new update rolls around in November. But, if youre a planner like me, youll probably want to start getting the layout right. You can use custom designs on the ground to create garden rows, like you would for pumpkins, and maybe a fence and some signs to decorate the area. If thats the case, youll just have to tweak some things before jumping right into your farm on Nov. 5. There are reasons to wait, though: The new log fence will be perfect for gating off gardens.
This is what I mean:
Plots are all set up and ready to go!
If youre flattening your island to the ground, godspeed. Im suffering in the dullness of pulling up my field of yellow flowers.

Look Out For Fake Art
Animal Crossing introduced Redd, the art-dealing fox with whom fans of the series may already be familiar, a few months after the game launched. Redd sells paintings you can hang in the new wing of your museum, but he also tries to offload knock-offs on unwitting players. When you ask to inspect a painting before buying it, check it against guides like this one to see if you should lay down the money or keep your bells in your pocket.
Alternatively, if you don’t want a straightforward cheat-sheet for identifying fakes, you can use , then make your own attempt to find discrepancies.
Construct Plots For The New Dwellers
For all the new island dwellers, Tom Nook has assured fully kitted outhouses, both from the inside and outside, and in order to so, you will need to build a total of six furniture items for every new member. As a guide, Tom Nook will offer you a selection of all the new recipes that you will need to build the new house. Now, of the many items, you will also need some flowers for crafting purposes. And these flowers are only available on higher grounds of your island.
