The moment you boot up the game with the patch safely applied, you’ll notice that Nintendo has sent you a gift to mark the occasion. It’s your very first snorkel! But, this is more of a cute addition to your wardrobe than anything, as it’s a wetsuit that you’ll need for diving.
You can obtain an Animal Crossing: New Horizons wetsuit from a number of places, but the easiest – and fastest – way of getting one is through the cabinet in your Nook’s Cranny shop. The Nook nephews will have one variation available per day to purchase, so make sure to find one that suits your look best.

How To Get The Vaulting Pole To Cross Rivers
Once everything is all set with your tent in Animal Crossing, players are pretty much given free rein to do anything and everything on the peaceful resort.
In true Animal Crossing fashion, the first thing many players will do is catch fish or bugs, since the island is absolutely covered with these types of critters.
At first, the island doesnt have a museum to display the creatures you catch, so youll have to instead take them to Tom Nook. Once you give him five fish or bugs, hell contact Blathers and give you the option to place a spot for his museum down on the island.
Once you do this, youll have to wait a day for Blathers to actually show up, but when he does, youre in business.
All youll have to do is head over to his tent, talk to him, and hell talk a bit about how he thinks fossils are found on the other side of the river. Of course, you cant actually get over there just yet, but he has a remedy for that.
He will give you the vaulting pole, which is then used to reach areas that were unreachable in the past.
Once you get your hands on this pole, things really start to open up in the world of Animal Crossing and you really start to see what the game can offer.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.

Look For Sea Creatures
Swimming and diving are fun diversions on their own, but New Horizons has also introduced a brand new page of the Critterpedia for players to uncover in the form of sea creatures. These can only be found out in the ocean, and players must dive underwater to find them.
As you swim, youll see plenty of sea creatures approaching without actually seeing which creatures they are. Youll know theyre near when you see an accumulation of bubbles dotting the waters surface, at which time you can submerge and enter the underwater world. The camera will shift to a more vertical position, allowing you to see a shadow underwater. Position your islander on top of this dark spot, and theyll nab the unknown object, subjecting you to a whole new set of puns.
To catch fish, youll have to act quickly, plunging into the deep blue waters after these elusive Sea Butterflies to snatch them up while theyre still within reach.
Find And Catch Sea Creatures
|Sea Creature Bubbles|
Best to dive when on top of bubbles
The best strategy for catching sea creatures is by diving when you’re right on top or near the bubbles. Get near the sea creature’s shadow, and you’ll automatically dive deeper to catch it!
If you dive too early and swim to the bubbles underwater, you might run out of air before you reach the sea creature!
Pocket is disabled, except when swapping
Access to your pocket is disabled while swimming, except when you catch a sea creature and your pocket is full.
|Enlarge…with sea creatures only|
When this happens, you will only be able to swap your newly-caught sea creature with another sea creature already in your pocket.
If you don’t have other sea creatures already in your pocket, you will be forced to release your newly-caught sea creature.
If you don’t need to swap a new sea creature, you won’t be able to manually release sea creatures while swimming. You have to swim back to shore and exit the water to release unwanted sea creature.
Keep things simple by emptying your pocket
Before entering the ocean for sea creatures, we highly advise to clear your pocket to make space for sea creatures!

- Requires: 3,000 bells
If you want to swim in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the first thing you need to do is buy a wetsuit. To buy a wetsuit, head over to Nook’s Cranny. The wetsuit will be available to purchase in the cabinet where you usually buy tools, seeds, and wallpaper/flooring.
The wetsuit costs 3,000 bells. You can also purchase a wetsuit from your Nook Stop terminal for 3,000 bells. They come in new designs daily, so you can keep checking back if you don’t like what you end up with. Your Nook Stop also offers a Nook Inc. wetsuit for 800 miles.
To equip the wetsuit, just select it in your inventory, press A, and select “Wear.” The wetsuit will be equipped directly over your clothes, so you don’t need to manually remove shirts or bottoms in order to wear it. Before players can get started, they will need to make sure their game is updated. Press the plus button on your Nintendo Switch on the main menu to check for the update. There are two places where players can get their Wet Suit. The first place is the Nook Stop. Players can exchange Nook Miles for their Wet Suit. How To Tell If A Sea Creature Is Fast In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Players who have just begun diving for sea creatures and who have not yet found them all at least once to enter in their encyclopedia typically won’t be able to tell which shadows belong to fast sea creatures. Much like fish shadows, there is not much to denote whether a creature will be the quick Giant Isopod or the considerably slower Tiger Prawn apart from shadow size.
Players should approach any bubbles in the water as slowly as possible until they can more easily determine whether the shadow belongs to a faster or slower sea creature. This way, no matter what, they won’t scare off a potentially valuable critter.
