How To Swim And Dive
Swimming is as simple as popping that swim suit on, walking up to the sea and pressing A to leap in! Bonus points for running and dive bombing!
To move around in the water, you need to repeatedly tap A to swim, and thats true whether youre swimming on the surface or diving down below. Diving is a single tap of Y.
To get back out of the ocean, you just need to swim over to one of the beaches on your island and youll wade out the water.
How To Catch The Fast Sea Creatures In Animal Crossing
Some of the sea creatures in the new Animal Crossing: New Horizons update are quicker than fish and harder to catch. Here’s how to capture them fast.
The new summer update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons introduced a group of brand-new sea creatures for players to catch using the new swimming and diving mechanic. Players must dive for these creatures in the waters around their islands. Many of these creatures, like the Giant Isopod or Gigas Giant Clam, are rather fast and will swim away faster than a player can dive down to capture them. This can lead to some frustration, especially if players miss a creature to add to their museum collection. Some of the faster creatures are also worth the most bells; each Giant Isopod is worth 12,000. Because of this, players should know how to catch them before they get away.
Players can control the speed at which their character swims, and this control is what will help them catch faster and more elusive sea creatures. While intuition suggests players move quickly, the opposite is often true. Players will need to approach these creatures slowly so as not to scare them away. Here’s how to capture the quickest sea critters in Animal Crossing: New Horizons so players can get the most out of the new in-game diving mechanic.
Diving In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
As you are swimming, you can tell your character to dive. In order to dive, press the Y button on the Joy-Con controller. If you are near the vicinity of a fish or sea creature or object, your character will automatically search for it and retrieve it.;
To find sea creatures, look for bubbles or shadows when swimming. Try to bring your character as near as possible to the bubbles before pressing the Y button.
You can also allow your character to dive faster by tapping A button once its underneath the water.

What To Do With Fish In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Scattered around your island, you will often find unique fish that can be caught and collected.
Upon catching these fish, players will unlock them in the new phone app, Critterpedia. This extensive library will showcase every bug and fish that you have encountered and caught, along with a detailed breakdown of their active hours, most common locations, and the seasons / months in which they will appear.
Once the Museum is open on your island, you will also have the ability to donate your catches. While you won’t receive any rewards for doing so, your Museum will begin to look pretty neat once it begins to fill up with new finds.
Alternatively, if collecting isn’t your thing and you’re after some extra cash, fish can be sold for Bells. While some fish will be worth more than others, players can use these Bells to purchase furniture and other useful items such as tools.

Collide Into Large Items Like Bathtubs Example
If youd like to glitch yourself into an item on your island Animal Crossing: New Horizons, such as the Cypress Bathtub, you can follow the example below! Create an elevated cliff area at least 2 by 5 tiles wide; so you have space for the small item, a 2×2 item to collide into, and space to place the items.
Turn one corner of the cliff into a diagonal corner piece, and place your small item on the edge at the top. Then place the larger item you wish to collide into off to the side, being careful to leave a gap similarly sized as the screenshot above.
When you climb up using your ladder into the small item, you should be able to easily collide into the larger item with a combination of moving around towards it and fiddling with the ZL Button to open/close a menu.
After your items and the glitch are working, you can choose to remove some extra cliff thats only required for initial setup. Or you might want to expand the cliff area, so you can decorate or try larger items like the Outdoor Bath.

Fishing Tips And Tricks
- Cast your line so that it lands in front of the fish .
- Mind the current! If your line is a bit far away, the current could carry it closer from the fish.
- Fish will only nibble a max of 5 times before swimming away.
- Listen: when a fish is just nibbling you’ll hear a light splash. When the fish has latched on you’ll hear a louder, dunking sound. Reel it in by pressing and holding “A.”
- Look for the bobber to go underwater! Reel it in by pressing and holding “A.”
- If you have trouble fishing we recommend buying the Colorful Rod from Nook’s Cranny because the bobber is a bit bigger and neon green, making it easier to see. Plus the bobber is actually a rubber ducky.

How To Swim In Animal Crossing
And how to swim really fast!
It is an exciting time to be a player of Animal Crossing New Horizons with not only the new Mario update on the way but the search for young spring bamboo is underway with all the new crafting details that it entails.
There are updates coming all the time to the game and one last summer gave you the ability to do something that you, strangely for a tropical island, were not able to do before go for a swim.
If you are new to the game, or you havent tried going for a dip yet, here is what you need to know about swimming, and swimming really quickly, in the Nintendo Switch hit.
Swimming In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
To swim, simply go to the edge of the island and continue walking. Your character should automatically jump into the water. Getting back on shore will require the character to walk up the beach. There is no way to climb out of the water on the rocks. When bubbles are present in the water, players can dive down into the water and scoop up sea creatures. These are unique creatures that can be traded for Bells or can be given to Blathers to add to his museum.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available on Nintendo Switch.

Donating Sea Creatures To The Museum
Unlike the update that introduced Redd and the Art Exhibit, sea creatures dont have a new wing in the museum. They will join the current collection of fish that already has an installation in the museum. Bring your first sea creature to Blathers, and he will promptly display it with all your other catches.
What To Do With New Sea Creatures
If you check your Critterpedia, you’ll find there’s a brand new tab for “sea creatures.” Anything you find on one of your underwater excursions will end up in this section, even if–as Blathers later explains–it isn’t exactly a “creature.” Seaweed, sea grapes, and other ocean plant life will get categorized here too. Check out our full list of all 40 sea creatures added in the new summer update.
Not only does the new swimming update mean new wildlife to log in your Critterpedia, but new things to donate to your museum as well. Blathers will gladly take any new sea creature or vegetation you find while diving as a donation to the museum.
You can also, as with any other wildlife find, place it as decoration. While most of what we’ve found so far will appear in a standard display tank, a few items like the seaweed have a unique placement style that you can use to decorate your island, so don’t forget to experiment!
