The Pace Of Island Life Means Taking Your Time And Following The Seasons
Part of acclimatising to island life in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is that the pace of life is slower than other sim games – especially if you’re used to the much more frantic pace of something like Stardew Valley. Things take time to happen in Animal Crossing, and your island is bound by the rules of the real world much more than you’d expect. Building anything usually takes around 24 hours, if not longer. Bamboo will only grow in Spring. Coconut trees only take root on the beach. Fish and bugs will change according to region, time of day, and weather. All of these things, and many, many more, are all part of the rules of island living. Just be aware that this is not a game you can rush through.;
How To Gather Other Trees
Fruit that’s native to your island sells for 100 Bells, but fruit that originated elsewhere sells for 500 each. That means to get a really profitable orchard going, you’re going to need to do some traveling. The best way to get a full variety of fruit is to coordinate with friends. They can visit their island’s airport and let Orville know they’re interested in visitors. Your friends will need to connect to the internet, which may require updating the game software.
Once that’s done they, can request a five-digit Dodo Code and share it with you. Visit your airport and tell Orville you want to fly, and you’ll be prompted to enter the code. These only work for a short period, so don’t wait too long!
Bring some of your native fruit, and you can drop it for your friend to pick up. They can drop some fruit for you, or you can shake down some of their trees and take them back home to plant. Fruit from other islands can take longer to grow, reappearing every five or six days, but it’s well worth the wait!

How Long It Takes For Fruit Take To Grow Back
Once you have shaken fruit from a tree, the branches will be bear for a short time.
Based on previous Animal Crossing games, fruit takes three days to grow back. Fruit not originally from your island can usually take a little longer – up to five or six days.
As for new fruit trees you have planted, trees take three days to grow, followed by an additional day to bear fruit – again, based on timings seen in previous games in the series.
A top tip if you wait to avoid this lengthy process is thanks to one of the new abilities you gain from eating fruit. If you eat one fruit to grow your strength, you can unearth a tree with a Shovel in a single go, placing it on your inventory.
You can then plant the fruit tree in its entirety back on your island – skipping that three day growing step entirely.

What Fruit Is In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
When it comes to AC:NH fruit, you’ll feel the urge to collect them all.
There are six in total to collect, with one type growing natively on your island. If you want to grow them all – and you will because you can sell ‘foreign’ fruit for lots of Bells – you’ll have to travel a bit.;
Here are all of the fruit types available in the game:
Dig Up A Hole And Bury A Fruit
To grow your own fruit tree, you can use a shovel to dig up a hole, and bury a fruit with it. The tree will be fully-grown in 4 days.
Make sure you have enough space!
If your fruit tree isn’t growing, there’s a chance that other trees or buildings are too close to it.
To grow, your fruit tree needs at least 1 free space around it, so that’s 8 spaces in total.

How To Move Trees
Theres two ways of getting fruit trees to exist wherever you want in Animal Crossing: New Horizons: You can take the fruit from any tree and plant it, or you can move existing fruit-bearing trees.
Planting new trees with fruits is pretty easy, but you may want to move the existing fruit-bearing trees you have on your island. To do so, you only need two things: some fruit to eat and any shovel.
Whenever you eat a piece of fruit, youll notice a counter with numbers appear on the top left of your screen. Each of those numbers represents a one-time action that you can perform, like breaking rocks with your shovel or more importantly, digging up whole trees while leaving them intact.
If you use your shovel on a fruit-bearing tree while you have at least one fruit buff, youll dig up the whole tree without damaging it. After its in your pocket, you can replant the tree wherever you like.
In your pocket, you can even tell which full, fruit-bearing tree is in your inventory by looking at it or hovering your cursor over it. In the image above, you can clearly see the difference between a plain tree and a pear tree.
When you have a tree in your pocket, you can dig a whole in the ground, open your inventory, choose the tree you want to plant, and choose the option to plant it.
Items Bought From The Nook Stop Will Arrive The Next Day
It can become quite an obsession buying items using your Nook Miles or through the Nook Shopping channel at the Nook Stop terminal, but be aware that anything you buy that’s listed on Nook Shopping or as ‘Delivery: Mail’ in Nook Miles Rewards will arrive in your mailbox the next day. Yes, that means you’ll have to wait until the next real-world day to get access to those cute new rain boots you bought. We’re sad too.;

Personality Types Change According To Your Progress
The villagers which appear on Mystery Island Tours will change according to your in-game progress. If you go on the tour prior to completing the Resident Services Event with the 3 houses, you’ll only be able to get Peppy, Lazy, and Normal type villagers. After you complete this event, all 8 personality types will become available.
When Capped, Have A Villager Leave
When you’re at the maximum number of villagers , Mystery Tour Islands won’t spawn villagers. However, if you have one of your villagers move out, their house will become a vacant lot and you’ll be able to find villagers on Mystery Tour islands during that period.
Getting Different Fruit In Animal Crossing New Horizons
When you first start New Horizons, you’ll arrive on your own private island and have a native fruit chosen at random.
There are six known fruits in New Horizons, and you’ll see them growing on certain trees across your island. To obtain it, press the A button next to a tree to shake the fruit down. Then press the Y button to pick it up.
If you want the other fruits, you’ll need to either visit a deserted island using a Nook Miles ticket, which you can purchase at Resident Services for Nook Miles, or visit a friend’s island.
You can learn more about visiting a friend’s island in our Animal Crossing: New Horizonsonline guide.

Be Careful With Your Axe
Once you start upgrading your tools, you’ll notice that they somewhat increase in power particularly when it comes to the axes. You’ll quickly get access to the ‘flimsy axe’, the ‘stone axe’ and just a very simply named ‘axe’. Don’t be fooled though, as the axe is impressively formidable. While the stone axe and the flimsy axe will shake a tree enough to set free the softwood, hardwood and normal wood, but leave the tree intact, the axe will carve straight through the tree. If you want to chop down trees, you’ll need the axe and stumps do encourage more wildlife to frequent your island but just for wood it’s the stone axe max.
Everything Stacks Differently In Your Inventory
There’s been a bit of an upgrade as to how your inventory works in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Initially, we were elated to find that you can pick as many weeds as you like without them taking up individual inventory slots, but there’s a catch – every item type stacks differently in your inventory so be aware of your space requirements:
- Stacks of 99: Weeds
- Stacks of 30: Wood, softwood, hardwood, stone, clay, iron Nuggets, bamboo, tree branches, pine cones, acorns
- Stacks of 10: Fruit, seeds, shells
- Stacks of 1: All furniture, fish, bugs, fossils, clams, recipe cards, tools, presents;

Trick: Eat Turnips For Efficient Compact Affordable Tree Moving Energy In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Were huge fans of the great new fruit energy feature in Animal Crossing: New Horizons that allows you to completely pick up trees and move them elsewhere, but you can eat more than just fruit!
It turns out that eating Turnips purchased from Daisy Mae can be a great source for fruit energy too, and even a better source than regular fruit for a number of reasons that well get into.
For those not already familiar though, one of the coolest new features in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the ability to dig up entire trees using your shovel, and then replant them as fully grown trees anywhere else on your island. To do this, you need to eat fruit to gain energy.
However, eating turnips is a great alternative and comes with a bunch of helpful benefits over regular fruit. For one, you can actually eat an entire set of 10 turnips at once with the press of a single Eat 10 button, versus fruit that must be eaten one at a time. A big time saver!
Secondly, its actually possible to stack turnips in your inventory as high as 100 while only taking up a single item slot of your pockets. This is a huge improvement over fruit too, which can only stack up to 10 each per inventory slot.

Guideby Jake Green, Guides Editor
Fruit has been an important part of the Animal Crossing series for a while now, and Animal Crossing New Horizons is no exception. At the start of the game you’ll be given a fruit which will grow on your island. You only get one type which will grow naturally on your island, so it becomes a defining feature over time. You cannot choose which fruit you get, as they are randomly assigned and you will need to find the other fruits if you want to grow them. Here’s everything you need to know.
