Animal Crossing New Horizons: Tree Spacing Guide

How to plant fruit trees in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

One thing youll likely find yourself doing a fair amount in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is planting trees. Be it a normal Cedar Sapling, a fruit tree, or money tree, youre going to be doing it a fair bit. A lot of these also grant you ways to make easy Bells, but you wont want to plant them and have them die. Our Animal Crossing: New Horizons tree spacing guide will talk you through what you need to know.

Using The Newly Attained Fruits

Once you have collected fruit trees, it’s time to start planting them on your island. In order to plant the fruit trees, you need to have access to a shovel A flimsy shovel will work just fine. For non-tropical fruit trees , simply find a location with grass, dig a hole, and select the fruit from your inventory to plant it. If you’re trying to plant a tropical coconut fruit tree on your island, you’ll need to dig a hole in sand, near the beach, instead of on grass. If you plant a non-tropical tree in sand, or plant a tropical tree in grass, you’ll be left with a permanent sapling that will never grow to its full size.

Whether you’re building an orchard of apples, a mangrove of oranges, or giving a go at earning Animal Crossing Bells by selling fruit, don’t forget to check up on your trees every few days. Once you’ve shaken the fruit from your trees, it will take 3 days for the fruit to regenerate.

How To Plant Hybrid Flowers In Animal Crossing

You can plant flowers in Animal Crossing in order to attract certain bugs that you want to catch. And, while planting flowers in Animal Crossing is similar to planting trees in that you need seeds in order to do so, theres a bit of a difference, too. Planting clusters of flowers together will result in hybrid flower creations.

And, as we mentioned in our guide on How to Catch Rare Bugs in Animal Crossing, certain rare bugs, such as the man-faced stinkbug and orchid mantis, only spawn on hybrid flowers. So, if youre wondering how to catch the rarest bugs in Animal Crossing , then eventually youll need to have hybrid flowers on your Animal Crossing island.

There are eight flower breeds in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. And, when you unlock Nooks Cranny, youll be able to purchase at least six of those breeds on a daily basis. Once you have seeds, the process is the same as planting a tree. Open your inventory, select the seeds and click Plant Here.

Now, in order to plant hybrid flowers in Animal Crossing, youll need to understand how crossbreeding works. According to EuroGamer, each flower breed has a number of hybrid flowers and, if you want to grow any of them, then you need to use the right combination of flower colors.

There are certain color combinations that are possible and following a complete guide will help you figure out which flowers you need to crossbreed in order to get the hybrid youre looking for.

From Our New Horizons Wiki

Animal Crossing New Horizons is possibly the biggest and most expansive game in the series to date, so expansive in fact that it cant possibly tell you everything you can do without it being a bit overwhelming. If youre wondering about planting fruit trees in the island living simulator, heres what you need to know.

When every player starts New Horizons, they are assigned an island and also a specific fruit that grows on said island, which is then locked to the Switch system. For instance, we have apples on our island, so thats the only thing that naturally grows there to begin with. Therefore, its vital that we go out and get some new fruit to plant so that we can continue to earn money from growing and selling different, non-native fruit.

You can find new fruit in a couple of ways. The first is to visit a friends island and have them give you some fruit to take home with you, or you can use a Nook Miles Ticket to fly to a randomly generated island and hope that it has a different fruit to what you already need.

Once you have the fruit you need, you will have to get yourself a shovel either a proper or flimsy shovel will do. You can craft one yourself with a few common materials or just purchase one from Timmy Nook in Resident Services or later Nooks Cranny.

Animal Crossing New Horizons is out now for Nintendo Switch.

Why You Should Grow Trees

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Trees Guide

So how will growing trees help you out in-game? There are quite a few benefits of growing lots of trees in your village.

Growing regular trees is excellent for decoration, but that’s not all they can be. You can shake normal trees, and sometimes they will drop bells or furniture. Just be careful of wasp nests!

Fruit trees are suitable to grow if you want to have every fruit on your island and sell them. The more fruit you can collect daily, the more bells you’ll be able to get. You can also chop down trees in Animal Crossing to get materials for tools.

The benefit of money trees, of course, needs no explanation. You get three times the amount you put in for free. Trees, in general, are significant in Animal Crossing and can help you out immensely.

How To Get Wood In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Stop sniggering at the back! Ahem. Just as in real life, wood comes from trees in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Rather unlike real life, trees in Animal Crossing: New Horizons produce an unending supply of all three types of wood. You get it by hitting the tree with an axe.

HOWEVER, theyll only be able to withstand two hits from a proper axe before the next strike chops the tree down. Keep this in mind unless you want to accidentally chop down a prized fruit tree.

Ironically, youre much better off if you use a Flimsy or Stone axe to gather wood you are able to get three lots of wood from every tree plus those axes arent strong enough to cut trees down regardless of how many times you swing at it.

The only downside is that the flimsy axe lives up to its name and will soon disintegrate through use youll have to craft several if you want to harvest wood from every tree on your island, or upgrade to the Stone axe for better durability .

The three types of available wood are used to craft a host of items in the game, from vital tools to exotic furniture and more.

How To Gather Other Trees

Fruit that’s native to your island sells for 100 Bells, but fruit that originated elsewhere sells for 500 each. That means to get a really profitable orchard going, you’re going to need to do some traveling. The best way to get a full variety of fruit is to coordinate with friends. They can visit their island’s airport and let Orville know they’re interested in visitors. Your friends will need to connect to the internet, which may require updating the game software.

Once that’s done they, can request a five-digit Dodo Code and share it with you. Visit your airport and tell Orville you want to fly, and you’ll be prompted to enter the code. These only work for a short period, so don’t wait too long!

Bring some of your native fruit, and you can drop it for your friend to pick up. They can drop some fruit for you, or you can shake down some of their trees and take them back home to plant. Fruit from other islands can take longer to grow, reappearing every five or six days, but it’s well worth the wait!

For a tree to fully grow, it needs 1 free space in all directions. If there are cliffs, water, or buildings in those spaces, the tree will not grow.

You can plant next to flowers and bushes

It is also important to note that flowers and bushesdo not “take up space,” so it is safe to plant tree saplings next to them.

How To Plant A Money Tree

Another type of tree you can plant is a money tree. These grow bells, allowing you to collect them with each money tree you grow. With a little bit of work, you can quickly grow these trees.

  • Take your shovel and look around your village for a golden glowing spot in the ground. These should appear every so often.

  • Dig up the glowing area, and then open your inventory. Go to your bells and pull out the amount you wish to plant. Whatever amount you put into the hole, the tree will grow times three. However, any amount above 10,000 bells may not return precisely that amount.

  • The bells will plant, and you should see a tree sprout. Once the tree has grown, you can shake the bells off. The bells won’t regrow, but you can try to find another glowing spot to regrow more.

Animal Crossing New Horizons: How To Grow A Tree Orchard

A lot of things have changed since the last entry in the Animal Crossing Series. Here’s how to make sure your orchards grow just how you want them.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a welcome return to the world of productivity we all enjoy. With that return comes a few new mechanics which can be surprising for seasoned players. One thing that has changed, in this new entry, is the method in which tree orchards can be properly cultivated. Creating a lush forest can make one’s island look spectacular.

In previous Animal Crossing games, the player could simply dig a series of holes and plant fruit into them. Watering the hole and leaving for a few days would produce luscious fruit trees without much of a problem. This has been attempted in New Horizons, and unfortunately, some of the trees don’t grow properly anymore. This guide will teach you how to properly get your trees looking and growing the way you want them to.

How Long It Takes For Fruit Take To Grow Back

    Animal Crossing Grow Fruits image

Once you have shaken fruit from a tree, the branches will be bear for a short time.

Based on previous Animal Crossing games, fruit takes three days to grow back. Fruit not originally from your island can usually take a little longer – up to five or six days.

As for new fruit trees you have planted, trees take three days to grow, followed by an additional day to bear fruit – again, based on timings seen in previous games in the series.

A top tip if you wait to avoid this lengthy process is thanks to one of the new abilities you gain from eating fruit. If you eat one fruit to grow your strength, you can unearth a tree with a Shovel in a single go, placing it on your inventory.

You can then plant the fruit tree in its entirety back on your island – skipping that three day growing step entirely.

    Dodo Codes From Online Communities

Some online communities will give out their Dodo codes for many reasons such as good turnip prices, Celeste being available on the island, or to come and get some fruit. You can join up with one of these communities and ask for some fruit, or jump over to an island to get what you’re missing. It’s important to be clear that these people are okay with you taking the fruit, though. If someone is advertising their Dodo code because turnips are at 400 bells on their island and you just hop on over and start picking their fruit when fruit was never mentioned, that’s rude and a quick way to make enemies with this game.

Communities can be found on places like Reddit, Discord, or even just by searching the web. A lot of these communities will charge a fee and even when no fee is charged, it’s considered rude to go there without leaving a tip, so do your research about what tip is appropriate and be aware of the etiquette!

    Friends Can Mail You Some

When you’ve visited someone’s island or they’ve visited yours, you’re then eligible to mail them things and vice versa. You can order them items from your catalog in Nook’s Cranny, or you can go down to the airport and send them a card with a gift attached.

If you’re missing some fruit and a friend acquires it, they can send what you’re missing. They can attach up to ten fruits in one letter.

    How To Plant Money Trees

How to Plant Trees & grow fruit, properly, in Animal Crossing New Leaf – Nintendo 3DS – 2DS

Just as there are different kinds of flowers in Animal Crossing, there are also different kinds of trees, too. Lucky for you, money really does grow on trees in this fictional fantasy world. Well, maybe not real money, but they do grow something called bells.

In this Nintendo Switch game, youll sometimes notice a glowing spot on the ground. If you dig into that spot, youll be able to deposit whatever amount of bells you currently have in order for the tree to grow. Once youve deposited the number of bells you want, youll wait a few days to let the tree grow and then you can go and shake it.

Yes, shake it! Shaking the tree will allow the bells to fall off for you to collect. Its a great way to grow your wealth in the game. How much can you earn off of a money tree in Animal Crossing? It depends. If you deposit 2,000 bells then each bag that grows on the tree will have 2,000 bells inside of it for a total of 6,000 bells.

Its also important to note that money trees will only grow bells once. After they grow bells, theyll simply go back to being a normal tree.

To plant a money tree you have to find a glowing spot on the ground. But, how do you plant a normal tree in Animal Crossing? First, you have to purchase saplings, which we detailed in the section above about unlocking Nooks Cranny.

    Why Your Trees Arent Growing

If your orchard looks like mine up above you may be asking this question. The ones on the outside grew up just fine. Was it that they didnt get enough light or water? Not really. Heres the thing, trees in Animal Crossing: New Horizons can thrive with just a single space between them, as I planted these and you likely planted yours. Its the best way to harvest fruit after all. However, they wont grow unless theres a lot more empty space around them.

Two spaces from the nearest tree should be enough, though as you can tell, sometimes trees will grow with closer neighbors. And in the end, you want them to be a single space apart for a fruit orchard like this, so heres what you should do instead. Growing trees should be done somewhere with more space, then you can transplant them to the orchard, placing them a single space apart in there.

To do this you just need to eat a piece of fruit then dig the fully grown tree up. You can place it anywhere in your orchard, giving it a single space or more if you wish. But the key is to grow trees with more space, then move them together once theyre ready. And thats why your trees arent growing in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
