Using The Golden Shovel Has No Clear Effect
|6 times out of 10|
Note: The data above is from our walkthrough team’s investigations.
For testing purposes, we buried 30,000 Bells 10 times with both a Normal and a Golden Shovel, and we got the result above.
This isn’t enough data to make any final conclusions, but it’s likely that the Golden Shovel has the same effect as the Normal Shovel.
Grow And Harvest Fruit To Sell
The other primary source of income in the early game is harvesting and selling fruit. Your island comes with native fruit trees. Early on, youll get a second kind of fruit in the mail; dig a hole and plant it to grow another tree.
Fruit that isnt native to your island sells for more, and you can sell your native fruit for more if you take it to a friends island. Focus on growing non-native fruit on your island, and stockpile your native fruit to sell if you have friends in Animal Crossing whose islands you can visit.
What Is The Maximum Number Of Bells You Can Plant
The most amount of bells you can put in the ground in one go is the same as the amount you can have in one inventory slot – 99,000 bells. Because you can only bury a single item in one dug hole, you can never get more than this. And, as mentioned above, it’s not always guaranteed to be profitable putting this much in.
Now that you’re rolling in bells, a rich raccoon like yourself can take the time to read some more Animal Crossing content, surely? Caty’s review of new Horizons would be a good start, and follow it up with our ode to cherry blossom season.

The Max You Can Bury Is 99000 Bells
The highest amount you can have in a single Bell bag is 99,000 Bells, so it is also the maximum amount of bells you can bury in Shining Spots.
If it succeeds, you’ll get 3 times 99,000 Bells for a total of 297,000. If it fails though, you’ll only get 30,000 Bells with a total loss of 69,000 Bells, yikes!
Burying the maximum amount of bells is both risky and rewarding. We don’t recommend it as your primary source of making bells, but it’s fine to do if you have extra bells!

Animal Crossing: New Horizons And Money Trees
Money trees take a significant amount more time to grown than normal trees in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Players will be able to watch the tree grow very slowly, often taking up to six days before bearing fruit. Once the tree is full-grown, players will see three bags of money hanging from the tree. The money will return the player 3x the amount the player buried but caps out at 30000 bells in total. This is the reason burying more than 10000 bells is a waste.
The best part of Animal Crossing: New Horizons is that, unlike the previous Animal Crossing games, the golden shovel is not necessary to grow a money tree. How To Dig Up Trees In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
To dig up a tree, simply eat a single fruit of any kind to gain some temporary super strength. You can eat one fruit at a time, and the superpower maxes out at 10 fruit.
Once youve dug up a tree, youll be able to see what type of tree it is, even if it wasnt a fruit-bearing day for that tree. This comes in handy when youre trying to manage and organize all of your fruit trees.
Of course, you can always hack away at any given tree by using the ax tool. You cannot cut down trees with a flimsy ax or a stone ax, as those serve as non-damaging means of harvesting wood from your trees.
Just make sure to dig up your tree stumps after youve chopped down trees, as they dont despawn on their own. Feel free to keep a few as a furniture feature for your NPC villagers to sit on. Also, tree stumps can spawn an exclusive type of spider.
Planting A Money Tree
After finding a money tree spot, players need to equip their shovel and dig to find 1000 Bells. But instead of refilling the hole, they should;turn 10,000 Bells from their total savings into an item.;Afterwards, hover over the Bells in the player’s inventory and confirm the Bury in Hole option. The player character will then briefly do an animation of burying the Bells, followed by a small tree sprout appearing to signal success.;Players should be aware if they;don’t have 10,000 Bells on hand, they can also plant a smaller number of Bells instead. However, the resulting money tree will also yield less Bells when ready.
How To Make Millions With Animal Crossing Money Trees
Money trees are always good for a little extra cash. As your island continues to grow though, your ambitions become bigger like terraforming your entire village and youll need every last bell in the bank.
The problem is, money trees have a risk factor to them. Planting 10k bells is the safest choice, because you will always get 30k in return. Some Animal Crossing fans live on the braver side, though, burying up to 99k. They often lose their bells.
There is a solution though time travel. Mucking around with your Switchs date settings is a surefire way to guarantee your 99k bells get turned into 297k:
- Find a rare glowing dig spot for your money tree.
- Bury 99,000 bells, and confirm a sapling has sprouted.
- Go to the home screen and close Animal Crossing.
- Head over to System Settings and select date and time. Turn off the synchronize clock via the internet option here.
- Set your time and date to 40 years in the future, e.g. If you are doing this on May 13, 2021, make sure you go to May 13, 2061.
- Open Animal Crossing back up and check your tree. It should have a guaranteed 297,000 bells waiting for you!
If youre going to avoid the time travel glitches, we recommend only planting 10k for each of the money trees you uncover. Its the safest way to avoid losing cash, and 20k profit for just finding a rare digging patch aint bad either!
Relocating A Money Tree In Animal Crossing
It is possible that players may not like the spot where they have planted their money tree. Luckily, Nintendo has provided the option of relocating the money plant to a different place. After burying the Bells, simply dig up the sapling and replant it wherever it’s deemed fit. Doing this does not affect the number of Bells players get from the money tree.
Tips From An Eccentric Millionaire
It may look cutesy and inoffensive from the outside, but when you delve beneath the surface, the world of Animal Crossing actually revolves around cold, hard cash . Much like your average University course, Nintendo’s perpetual debt simulator bridles you with an ever-increasing loan from the day you move into town, and with everything from a massive flat screen TV to a bed in the shape of a pineapple staring at you from the shelves of the general store, only to be gone forever if you don’t buy it now, you’ll be quickly find yourself haemorrhaging Bells no matter how well you budget. And that’s before we even get to the murky world of Tom Nook’s house extensions, which simply give you more space to fill with more stuff, bought from the shop run by his two sons. Their Mafia-like grip on the town’s apple-based economy is astounding…;

Play The Turnip Market
Once you successfully build Nooks Cranny, the turnip market will become available. Each Sunday, from 5 AM to 12 PM, a pig named Daisy Mae will visit your island. If you talk to her, youll have the opportunity to buy turnips. You can then sell the turnips at Nooks Cranny from Monday through Saturday, potentially earning a lot of Bells.
Turnips rot and become worthless if you dont sell them during the week you bought them, and they can also spoil if you alter the clock on your Switch to time travel. To maximize the chances of earning a big profit, check to see if your friends have reasonable turnip prices or look online for people who are willing to share access to their islands.
Travel To Desert Islands
You can use Nook Miles to buy vouchers to fly to desert islands. It’s an excellent way to meet new villagers if you have space on your island, but you can also dig up many resources to sell at home. Eat fruit and then dig up trees, and you can either sell them for quick Bells or plant them at home to have instantly mature fruit trees. Sometimes, youll even find an island with non-native fruit trees or an island full of money rocks.
How Many Bells Do You Get From Money Trees
Money trees work as a means to invest your money, but the amount of bells they drop scales to how much you planted in the ground to begin with. You’ll get three times the amount you plant, so putting 1000 bells in the ground will produce a tree that drops 3000 bells. This remains constant up until 10,000 bell investments , but planting any more than that and you start to be at the mercy of randomness. You could plant 99,000 bells and get the regular investment, or you could get less than you buried in the first place. For this reason, it’s hard to recommend putting in more 10,000 bells at a time when you’re planting a money tree.
Once you harvest the bells from a tree the first time, it won’t drop any more money, becoming a normal tree from that point on. Feel free to dig it up or chop it down if you want, because you won’t get any more from it.
Harvest Tarantulas On A Nook Miles Island
If you don’t suffer from arachnophobia, harvesting tarantulas is reportedly a fantastic way to build cast quantities of Bells. It involves visiting random islands using your Nook Miles and either landing randomly on the ‘Tarantula Island’ template, or gaming the system and transforming any old Mystery Island to cause tarantulas to spawn in vast quantities.
Despite Nintendo changing bug spawn rates, you can head to a Nook Miles island at night and, with a little elbow grease, create a horde of the furry arachnids by ridding the island of virtually everything except a few flowers. This works thanks to the way the game generates the ecosystems of the smaller islands. Having tried ourselves we can confirm it works just fine, and after half an hour’s work we had an island of Tarantulas to ourselves.
