Animal Crossing: New Horizons Multiplayer Tips
A big part of the fun of Animal Crossing multiplayer is simply seeing your friends islands and hanging out together, but there are also some key tips to keep in mind when both visiting and hosting guests.
- Bring your native fruit to other islands: Every island has its own distinct fruit . So if you bring, say, oranges to an island whose native fruit is something else, you’ll get a ton of Bells by selling them to Timmy in the Nook tent. Likewise, you should bring back foreign fruit to your own island for big rewards.
- Exchange items with friends: You can give items to friends while playing multiplayer by simply accessing your inventory and dropping anything on the ground you want a friend to take. This can give you a significant head-start — for example, a friend gave me a shovel and vaulting pole well before I had the DIY recipe to craft my own.
- Add Best Friends: Once you’ve played with someone, you can send a request to be their Best Friend via the Best Friend List on your Nook Phone. You can send messages to Best Friends that are online, as well as choose to only allow Best Friends to visit your island.
With these tips, you’ll be having fun digital island parties in no time. Happy vacationing!;

Multiple Residents
In Animal Crossing: Wild World, like in Animal Crossing, up to four players can live in a single town. However, players now live in the same house, likely due to the smaller town size. In Animal Crossing: City Folk, since the towns are larger than in Wild World, players live in separate houses again.
Friends
In Wild World and City Folk, if the player talks to Copper at the checkpoint, they can receive a 12-digit Friend Code. If this code is entered into another player’s game, they can become friends. Friends can visit each other’s towns and send each other letters over the Internet.
Tag Mode
Tag Mode , is a mode exclusive to Wild World that allows players to interact wirelessly. While the game is in Tag Mode, coming within range of another person who also has their game in Tag Mode will allow both to swap Notes in Bottles which have been let out to sea, as well as trade constellations and villagers.
Visiting other towns
City Folk
In Wild World and City Folk, the player can talk to Copper at the checkpoint to either visit someone else’s town or to open the checkpoint to allow other players into their town by telling him “I wanna go out!” or “Invite guests” respectively. Up to four players can be in a town at one time. Players can chat via an in-game keyboard, or, in City Folk only, via the Wii Speak accessory.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Connects Players Better Than Ever Before
Other improvements worth noting are the enhanced multiplayer and online features that are present in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Its very easy to connect with friends and have them visit the island, allowing up to eight players on a single instance. Theres a system in place ensuring that guests dont irreparably destroy the island, but theres also the ability to delegate players onto a best friends list if they can be trusted to not destroy everything.
There are a few aspects of the multiplayer and online functionality that sadly leave a bit to be desired. Deciding to share the game off of a single Switch isnt great, as theres no functionality to create another island. The new player is forced to play on the existing island, and aspects of progression are locked out by the other player. There is also no voice chat baked into the base game. Instead, I was required to use the Nintendo Switch Online app on a smartphone if I wanted to communicate with others. However, the biggest drawback is that save data cant be uploaded to the cloud or copied, but Nintendo has stated that theyre planning a solution for implementation within the year.

How To Start Local Co
To start local co-op in Animal Crossing New Horizons youll need a Nook Phone. This is given to you shortly after arriving on the island, and allows you to call other Islanders. Whip out your phone and select the Call Islander option. This will then allow you to select who youd like to play with.
Invite Or Join Friends Online
If the local Party Play is a real novelty in this opus, this is not the case of the online multiplayer mode. To play online in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you will need to go to Dodo Airlines airport, located on the coast of the island.. By chatting with the NPC, you will have the opportunity to choose between using a local connection or inviting a friend directly online. Be aware that this operation absolutely requires a subscription to Nintendo Switch Online.
In order to join a friend online, select multiplayer mode adequate then choose your adventure companion from your Nintendo Switch friends list. Then all you have to do is click on invite via Dodo Code and send the temporary code, generated by the operation, to your friend . Once done, you should be able to play with the selected players without any worries.
As a reminder, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been available since March 20, 2020 on Nintendo Switch.

How To Unlock Multiplayer In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Traditional multiplayer is unlocked by hitting “Day 2” of gameplay, which happens as the day changes for you in real life after first starting the game. This will unlock Dodo Airlines, the game’s multiplayer hub. There you’ll be able to enjoy both online and local multiplayer. Unlike Party Play, both modes may be enjoyed with up to eight players. Similar to party play, there are some limitations to what players that join can do â they’ll be unable to use the host’s Resident Services and most won’t have access to their Axe or Shovel tools unless the player is denoted as a Best Friend.
