  • A Closer Look At Club Lol/101 In The English Versions Of Animal Crossing: New Leaf

If youve been watching the recent videosout of PAX East, youve probably noticed that in all of the videos the presenter says Club LOL. Previously, we were under the impression it was called Club 101. At first, we thought it may have been a mistake but that may not be the case. Keep reading to learn why

Before we dive into the speculation behind it, lets take a closer look at the videos. Below we have zoomed in screenshots of the Club signs:

Now this may vary from person to person but in my opinion, it definitely looks closer to the letter O than the number 0. Its most apparent on the large sign with the O looking a bit squished horizontally.

Okay so, its certainly possible for it to be an O at this point but why are there still numbers? We think that its supposed to be a pun. The sign looks like 101 at first glance because it seems like a logical name for a night club.

However, its also a comedy club during the day so thats where the Club LOL comes from. By making the sign contain both a 1 and a O, it plays on the idea that the club is both. Based on what the Nintendo reps said, it looks like the official name will be Club LOL.

UPDATE: A reader in the comments has pointed out that in the officially translated Animal Crossing Direct by Nintendo of Europe it is subtitled as Club 101. Take it as you will.

Weeks With Animal Crossing: New Horizons Reveals Many Frustrations

    Animal Crossing: New Leaf

    A new GamesBeat event is around the corner! Learn more about what comes next.;

Ive had Animal Crossing: New Horizons for six weeks. Nintendo sent me a copy for review at the end of February, and Ive played it almost every day since then. I have more than 120 hours of playtime, according to my Switch Lite. Thats not as much as some, and thats actually one of the problems that Ive noticed since my review.

The issue isnt that I havent played as much as others but that I feel the need to make comparison in the first place. After the initial tutorial experience, which lasts approximately two weeks of daily play, New Horizons is devoid of explicit goals. Nintendo wants players to feel free to decide what to do. And while I havent put much time into achieving a 5-star rating for my island, I feel more and more like I should when I see others showing off theirs on Twitter.

When I wrote my review before the public release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, I didnt realize just how much social media would change the way the game feels. Social channels were around in 2013, when Animal Crossing: New Leaf launched for 3DS. But they werent as ubiquitous. More important, it was significantly more challenging to post a screenshot from Nintendos dual-screen 3D portable than it is from the Switch.

Of course, that didnt stop me:

Customize Your Town To The Last Pixel With Qr Codes

New Leafs QR codes open up endless creative possibilities. You can use QR codes to customize everything from your towns pavement to your own bedsheets. The sewing machine that reads QR codes is in the Able Sisters shop. It wont be available when you first start the game, but once you settle in and spend a little money in the towns shops, Sable will let you use it.

    How Time Traveling Works

For those unfamiliar with Animal Crossing, the passing of time may feel odd compared to other games – in that the game progresses in real-time. The game is tied to the internal clock of the 3DS, and gameplay will unfold minute to minute, hour to hour – even when you aren’t playing. The game’s real-time system makes for some interesting features. Day will turn to night, shops will open and close, summer will become fall, trees will grow, and even flowers will wither away.

While there are many upsides to this method of gameplay, there are also a few downsides. If you have set the game’s clock to your current time, you may find that the game won’t always cater to your playstyle. Because time passes when you aren’t playing, it is possible players wishing to play early in the morning or very late at night may find less to do than playing in the middle of the day, when most villagers are up and about, and the shops are open. Players wishing to experience snow may also be disappointed when their clock is set to . But there is a way to circumvent this problem – at a price. It’s called Time Traveling.

    Nintendo Item Fortune Cookies

Some of the most beloved items in Animal Crossing: New Leaf were the iconic Nintendo themed ones from series like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pikmin, and much more. By purchasing and eating a fortune cookie from Timmy & Tommys Shop, you could get a randomly chosen Nintendo themed item every day!

i miss all those neat little nintendo items you could get from fortune cookies in new leaf!!!

    jack

Honestly, it feels inevitable that these Nintendo themed items will make their way to Animal Crossing: New Horizons eventually its just a matter of time. Hopefully sooner than later!

2021 Update: In the March 2021 Update, the developers did introduce a series of Mario themed items to New Horizons, but arguably the best non-Mario items for Zelda and others are still missing.

Set Town Ordinances That Suit Your Play Style

Animal Crossing: New Leaf – Part 135 – Reset Center (Nintendo 3DS Gameplay Walkthrough Day 68)

As soon as you have a few extra bells to throw around, you should talk to your assistant Isabelle about putting either the Night Owl or Early Bird ordinance into place. Both ordinances are tailored to suit your play style: Under Night Owl, stores will stay open three hours later , and under Early Bird, they open three hours earlier. Either ordinance can be canceled or switched at any time.

    Procure And Grow Foreign Fruit

Your town has naturally-growing fruit trees: Apples, cherries, and oranges are three examples. The fruit from these trees sell for 100 bells, but fruit thats not from your your town goes for higher prices. Best of all, fruit is a renewable resource, so you can plant, pick, and sell it over and over.

There are a few ways to grab foreign fruit. The island, for instance, is home to tropical fruit trees. You can ship some home, plant it, and collect when the trees blossom. Better yet, a friend can visit and bring an offering of fruit from his or her hometown .

If all else fails, one of your townsfolk may gift you with a single piece of foreign fruit. Dont eat it! Plant it! Also, dont plant fruit trees too close together, as they may not take root if theyre crowded.

    Time Traveling Pros And Cons

    Animal Crossing: New Leaf

Here are a few things you can take advantage of while Time Traveling:

    • Fast Forward – Done everything you can do your first day in town? Can’t wait for the Able Sisters to change their inventory? Fast Forward to tomorrow – today! By jumping forward a day, you can speed up things like the inventory selection in shops, housing upgrades, or even get to a holiday! You hop days one money rock at a time for some serious cash! Fossils and fruit will also appear faster!
    • Rewind Time – Didn’t get a chance to play the day before and missed out on the Fishing Tournament? Set the clock a day or more behind to revisit events you’ve missed!
    • Day/Night Cycle – Whether you’re an early bird or a night owl, you can have it both ways with time traveling! Catch that rare insect or fish that only appears a certain time of the day, or enjoy watching a meteor shower in the summer night sky.
    • Seasons Greetings – While the drawbacks may be more obvious, you can change from Summer to Spring to Winter to Fall as you please! Not only are some fish and bugs only available certain times of the year, but you can also attend special events like New Years Eve and Hallow’s Eve back to back!

Of course Nintendo knows how to keep time travelers in check. Among the drawbacks of time travel abuse, here are some things to note:

    Keeping Up With The Twitters

Kaitlyn Molinas went hard on New Horizons right out of the gate, logging 240 hours in her first town. She had tons of clothes and most of the seasonal recipes for cherry blossoms and Easter eggs, and she had terraformed her island multiple times.

My ideas that I tried never felt cute, especially compared to images Id see on Twitter, and it made the game very stressful to play, and see people talking about constantly online, she told Polygon. I ended up feeling like wanting to go back and play New Leaf, as that game was just, always chill, due in part to not being able to tear everything up and decorate whatever.

New Horizons player Emily Rand also felt social media hang over her efforts to spruce up her island. She admits that she often takes an initial swing at a game before returning to finish it on a second try. Playing at launch was a mixed bag for her. was cool to be a part of the original rush, but theres always a weird pressure about it too, she told Polygon. Im also like this about anime when it airs. I want to be a part of the conversation, but theres pressure in that too.

Rand and Molinas both sunk a lot of time into their islands at launch, but the pressure of expectations as well as the weight of making a perfect island increased as beautiful decor and clever layouts went viral across social media. It all eventually got to them. They both restarted their games, and found their next attempt much more low-key.

    Worse: No Town Ordinances

Perhaps the most significant feature that didnt survive outside of;New Leaf is the presence of town ordinances. As the mayor in;New Leaf, players can choose from a number of improvements that impact how the town functions. These include the;Night Owl and Early Bird ordinances, which allow shops to open later and earlier respectively, and the Bell Boom ordinance which makes items sell for 1.2x the regular amount.

The most missed one is probably the Beautiful Town ordinance, as this prevents weeds from growing at their usual rapid rate. While weeds are now a useful DIY tool, their growth can quickly get out of control. The option for ordinances has such an interesting and positive impact on;New Leafs gameplay, and its sad to see it go.

Hit Rocks With Your Shovel For Big Rewards

How to restart on Animal Crossing New Leaf

The rocks in your town are for more than just getting in your way. If you whack them with your shovel , you can find bugs and valuable ore. Once a day, you can even find a money rock, which pays out cash in increasing denominations each time you hit it. The rock is only active for a few seconds, so you need to hit it as quickly as possible. Recoil will slow you down, but you can perform better with practice. You can also try digging holes and placing yourself between the holes and the rock so recoil wont affect you.
