It all eventually got to them. They both restarted their games, and found their next attempt much more low-key.

How To Restart Your Island On The First Day
When setting up your island for the first time, it’s important to keep these in mind:
- You cannot change your island name after it’s set. Whatever you enter will be the full island name. The world island is not added to what you type in.
- You cannot change your name or birthday.
- Youll be stuck with your island layout for a long time, so make sure you have access to things you want with whatever you pick. Your character cant cross rivers or scale ledges at first and the traversal tools that allow you to do so take a while to unlock.
- You can change your appearance and youll unlock more customization options later.
After you set up your island, youll arrive with two random animals who are also participants in the getaway package. There are several personality types across the different animals. You will also have a fruit native to your island — there are pears, peaches, apples, cherries, and oranges. If you dont like the villagers or your fruit you can reroll them by immediately backing out of the game by closing the software completely after landing on your island.
Remember, if you choose to do this, youre giving up your island layout. In addition to the new villagers, youll also have different default clothes and fruit when you reroll. Plus, youll need to go through all the starting questions again.

When you boot up the game you will be given the option of four different islands to choose from. These are completely random, so theres a chance you could get one that you dont even want. Once youve cleared your first tutorial day on the island and you wake up in a tent, the game will save, and youll be locked in. After that, you cannot delete your first character, aka the Resident Representative through any options in the game.
Resident Representatives cannot delete themselves and theres no way to transfer the Resident Representative title to another player character on the island.
If you dont want to completely erase your island, you can simply restart on another character from the title screen menu .
The only way to truly start again is to delete your save data and get a fresh start on a new island. By removing all save data, any progress that you have made will be completely erased. You can erase all of your save data by following the steps below.
From the Nintendo Switch Home screen, close any games you have open by pressing the X button on your joy-con controller.
Next, navigate to the Nintendo Switch System Settings menu by selecting the gear icon found in the bottom row of icons.
Navigate down to Data Management, select the Delete Save Data option at the bottom of the list, and then select Animal Crossing: New Horizons from your list of games.
Choose Delete All Save Data for This Software and confirm that you want to remove the save data from the Nintendo Switch. By choosing to continue, the data will be removed, and you can start over fresh in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

If you want a new Villager, but are fine with keeping the same island load up the game and hit the Minus button. This will ask you to save and go to the Main Menu. Once at the Main Menu, hit the Minus button to bring up settings. Navigate to Save Data and then select Delete Resident Registration. Doing so will remove your character completely, all their items, Bells, Miles, and previous interactions with the islanders. Think of it as erasing the memory of a character from the entirety of the game.
The catch is, if youre the one who founded the island then you cannot delete your character. This is because your Villager is tied to the island as the representative. Without them the island would cease to function, so youll need to wipe the data completely from your Nintendo Switch. Since the in-game clock is set to the players respective season, the holiday events and seasonal changes always make for unique and creative challenges for decorating, as well.

I definitely gravitate towards a very natural aesthetic where bushes, trees, and flowers are incorporated into every single build. The majority of my island focuses on the natural beauty and the raw nature that Animal Crossing New Horizons gifted us within our island getaway package. To achieve this, I tend to use a lot of items with muted and neutral colors like the pirate barrels, brown street lamps, hedge fencing, and log furniture.
