How To Send Mail In Animal Crossing New Leaf

But New Horizons Has Real Frustrations

[Animal Crossing: New Leaf] Sending letters to villagers

With New Horizons, Nintendo addressed hurdles that prevented some people from getting into Animal Crossing. And while a list of achievements like Nook Miles demystifies the game, Im willing to trade some of the illusion to get a more rewarding game overall.

My deeper frustrations with New Horizons dont stem from a comparison to New Leaf. Im still more hung up on the interface and multiplayer.

Before I get into this, Ill admit that I just spent a lot of words critically examining Nintendos decisions to streamline and modernize Animal Crossings mechanics. Now, Im going to beg the company to streamline and modernize its user experience. But Ill gladly declare myself a hypocrite to not have to go through four button presses and an animation to build one DIY recipe.

I get that Nintendo wants to make Animal Crossing feel conversational, and it should maintain that when it comes to the villagers and maybe even the shopkeepers and Tom Nook. But I dont want to have a conversation with my workbench or the airline.

Let me queue up recipes in my workbench and hook the bench into my homes storage. When I want to go online, I get that Nintendo wants me to go the airport. But then just give me all of the options in a single menu. Its baffling that if I choose the wrong option, I cant just go back one menu. I instead have to start the conversation over from the beginning.

Its infuriating.

How To Write A Letter

After you select your stationary, youre going to have to write the damn letter. This is the hardest part. What are you going to say? How are you going to say it? Are you going to profess your love to Canberra? What if she rejects you? How will you live with that? Its fine. Maybe just something simple. A hey, whats up? or something. Thats easy enough, right?

No? Okay, well send a letter to a friend. Orville will ask you if you want to send a letter to Your Future Self, A Resident, or A Friend. Choose whichever one you want.

After youve selected your recipient, youll be presented with a keyboard for you to type out your message. Once you finish writing, youll also have the option to attach a present by clicking on the gift button in the bottom right hand corner. You can send most items, but there are restrictions. You cant send turnips in the mail, for example.

Once youre done, hit okay and your letter will be whisked away via the power of birds and the internet.

And thats how you write a letter in Animal Crossing: New Horizons! Hopefully this helps you get settled into your new Animal Crossing: New Horizons island! Much like the game itself, check back throughout the day to see whats new here on Fanbyte. We already have guides for how to move your tent and how to get across rivers using either the vaulting pole or constructing bridges. As always, thanks for the continued support!

Don’t: A Lack Of Diversity

Characters all come with the same light skin color that can only be darkened with a tan, which comes from wandering around outside without protective gear during certain Summer months. It goes without saying that it’s not exactly in good taste to make having darker skin into a gameplay mechanic, instead of an automatically available character-creation option. You can also get Mii make-up put on at Shampoodle, but that means sacrificing the soft, colorful aesthetic of the game.

Luckily, the issue was taken care of in Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, where you can freely change the color of your character’s skin, hair, and eyes whenever you see fit! From what’s known so far, it seems like Animal Crossing: New Horizons plans on keeping up with that theme.

Weeks With Animal Crossing: New Horizons Reveals Many Frustrations

A new GamesBeat event is around the corner! Learn more about what comes next.

Ive had Animal Crossing: New Horizons for six weeks. Nintendo sent me a copy for review at the end of February, and Ive played it almost every day since then. I have more than 120 hours of playtime, according to my Switch Lite. Thats not as much as some, and thats actually one of the problems that Ive noticed since my review.

The issue isnt that I havent played as much as others but that I feel the need to make comparison in the first place. After the initial tutorial experience, which lasts approximately two weeks of daily play, New Horizons is devoid of explicit goals. Nintendo wants players to feel free to decide what to do. And while I havent put much time into achieving a 5-star rating for my island, I feel more and more like I should when I see others showing off theirs on Twitter.

When I wrote my review before the public release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, I didnt realize just how much social media would change the way the game feels. Social channels were around in 2013, when Animal Crossing: New Leaf launched for 3DS. But they werent as ubiquitous. More important, it was significantly more challenging to post a screenshot from Nintendos dual-screen 3D portable than it is from the Switch.

Of course, that didnt stop me:

How To Get The Sanrio Items In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Like with the Sanrio villagers, you need to own the Sanrio Amiibo Cards to unlock the Sanrio items in New Horizons. These items include a range of furniture, clothing, wallpaper and flooring.

You can also use the Sanrio Amiibo Cards released for Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

To unlock the Sanrio items, all you have to do is scan your chosen card using the ‘Invite Amiibo Camper’ option at the Nook Stop in Residential Services.

The items connected to that Sanrio villager will now appear in the Promotion section of Special Goods within Nook Shopping, which can be accessed either through the Nook Stop or your Nook Phone if you’ve unlocked the app.

Now you can purchase whichever Sanrio item you like – just remember, you can only purchase five items per day from the Nook Shopping app and you will have to wait till the next day for these items to arrive.

Do: Writing Letters To Your Villagers

Animal Crossing New Leaf how to send letters

Sending and receiving letters from your favorite villager is one of the most wholesome things about Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

You can write pretty much whatever you want in your letter as long as you’re fine with them showing them off to the other villagers whenever they feel like it.

Sometimes, your villagers will send you a gift or an invitation to their birthday party, and other times they just send you a random jumble of thoughts, but, either way, it’s always nice to get one!

Don’t: Gracie’s Obnoxious Prices

After working tirelessly to unlock Gracie Grace’s shop, it’s indescribably frustrating to see the prices on some of the items! The clothing, shoes, and accessories sell for thousands of bells, and the furniture, walls, and floors are even more ridiculous.

Things in Gracie’s shop are sold on a seasonal rotation. That’s pretty cool since it guarantees that the inventory will always change it up a bit to keep it from going stale, but it’s also a bummer since it adds even more pressure to scrape up enough bells to afford that Sweets Set, which is going to run you for well over a million bells total.

That’s right. A million. Gracie’s prices are a scam.

Don’t: Restrictive Furniture Placement

Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer introduced the ability to place things in half of a tile, making every item significantly more versatile and opening up a whole new world of decoration possibilities. Unfortunately, that wasn’t a part of the Animal Crossing: New Leaf base game or the Welcome Amiibo update.

How To Send A Letter

To send a letter in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, youre going to want to head to your islands airport. To the right of Orvilles desk is a postcard stand. Interact with that and youll be prompted to select a style of letter. Each one costs 200 Bells to send and deliver. There is no extra fee for attaching an item.

CharityDiary said:SwapNote requires you to exit Animal Crossing’s online mode, and go out of the game. It also doesn’t notify you within the game when you receive a note.Sending a letter to someone while you’re in their town is just stupid. Seriously, what’s the point of that? The Best Friend chat feature can only be used when both players are online.Simply put, a cross-town mailing system wouldn’t be nearly as pointless as the other options that are available to us. If I want to give my best friend a present, I would no longer have to text him, “Hey, get on Animal Crossing,” then wait for him to get on Animal Crossing, then wait for him to send me a message telling me his gate’s open, and then go to his town to give him the item.I’d just send him the present in a letter, and the next time his mail was loaded , my letter would be there. It would be much more convenient than going to their town or sending them a SwapNote.

Don’t: Villagers That Require Amiibos

Amiibos are a cool concept, but what isn’t so cool is that the Welcome Amiibo update for Animal Crossing: New Leaf introduced several different villagers that could literally only be gotten by using their Amiibo card. The cards were sold in blind packs, so there was no way to guarantee that you’d get what you wanted, and several of them were pretty rare.

It was an expensive way to get your hands on a villager, and, considering that Animal Crossing: New Leaf was already a full-priced game, it just seemed greedy. Hopefully, Animal Crossing: New Horizons won’t follow the same path by requiring Amiibos… Or even go down the same road as Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, which added lootboxes in 2018.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Is Different

The FOMO is not completely external to New Horizons. Vice Gamings Gita Jackson does a great job of explaining that here. Im not going to restate her, so go read that as well. But Ill add that Nintendo has made some subtle additions and tweaks to Animal Crossings formula that make New Horizons feel fundamentally different.

In my review, I noted that New Horizons supports longer play sessions than the early game in New Leaf. And this is generally a good thing. You can still fish, catch bugs, travel to an island for resources, and decorate your home. But now you can also collect crafting resources and DIY recipes, decorate outdoors, and complete achievement-style quests.

Or maybe you can try to get all the items during a timed event like some sad people:

Jeff Grubb

In addition to just giving players more to do, New Horizons additional features also change the cadence of Animal Crossing.

In New Leaf, players were pretty limited in terms of options of how to progress. You could upgrade your home, add to your museum, design clothing, and interact with your villagers. New Leafs mechanics were simpler and I would even call them worse than New Horizons.

But because everything was equally devoid of intrinsic rewards, many players felt they had more freedom to choose their own path in New Leaf. New Horizons, meanwhile, can often make you feel like you could be doing something more efficient with your time.

How To Send Letters With Presents Attached

Animal Crossing New Leaf Meeting Truffles And Sending A Letter To Truffles

The mail service on your island will initially allow you to send mail to any villager who lives on your island or even your future self. To have the ability to send mail to other players, you first have to visit another players island or vice versa.

After two players have interacted in this way, they will both become registered mail recipients on each others islands. From there, sending mail to one another is a simple process.

  • Go to Dodo Airlines and interact with the card booth to the right of Orvilles desk.
  • Orville will ask you if youd like to send a letter for the cost of 200 Bells.
  • Choose which recipient youd like to send your letter to.
  • Select the stationary for your letter, which ranges from a list of rotating designs to standards you can always choose from.
  • Write a note on the letter.
  • To attach a present, click on the gift icon on the bottom right of the screen that appears right after you write your note.
  • You can attach most items and even money as your gift.

The letter will take a few moments to send. If youve sent something to a villager on your island, youll likely get a response from the villager thanking you for the gift.

If youve sent a present to a friend, it will show up in their mailbox whenever they are online.

When your friend receives their gift with your letter, theyll instantly know what it is just from looking at the attachment. If you want your gifts to feel more like a present, you can buy wrapping paper from Nooks Cranny.

How To Invite A Sanrio Villager To Your Island In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

If you want to invite a Sanrio villager to live on your island in New Horizons, then you need to follow the same steps as when you use a regular Animal Crossing Amiibo Card to invite a villager to your island.

First, choose your card and then, in-game, visit the Nook Stop in Residential Services.

Here you’ll be able to scan your chosen Sanrio villager card by using the ‘Invite Amiibo Camper’ option. This villager will then appear at your campsite and, like with a regular villager, they’ll ask for furniture, which, when given to them, will eventually unlock the option to add them to your island community.

Thankfully the Sanrio Amiibo Cards which were originally released for Animal Crossing: New Leaf on the Nintendo 3DS are compatible with New Horizons.
