How To Buy And Store Turnips

How to Buy and Sell TURNIPS for Profit on Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Turnips in Animal Crossing operate on a weekly cycle. Each Sunday after you’ve unlocked Nook’s Cranny, an adorable boar named Daisy Mae will visit your town and sell turnips from 5 AM to 12 PM. She sells them in bundles of 10 for a varying price each week–somewhere between 90 and 110 bells per turnip. There’s no limit to how many you can buy before she leaves so long as you have the bells, and we recommend buying regardless of her price, though buying low is obviously preferable.

All the turnips you buy will spoil the following Sunday and become worthless, so in order to make any money, you’ll need to sell the week’s turnips sometime before Saturday evening. In the meantime, you don’t have to keep turnips in your pockets while you can’t store them in your home storage, you can drop them on the floor in your home or outside. Keep in mind that any visitors can pick up the turnips you leave outside, so if you don’t have space in your house, make sure you fence in the turnips so they don’t get stolen!

Where To Buy Turnips In Animal Crossing

Players can only purchase turnips from Daisy Mae, a vendor who visits your island every Sunday from 4:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Follow these steps to buy turnips from her:

  • Locate Daisy Mae. She will wander around your island but is easy to recognize, thanks to the turnips on her head.

  • Speak to Daisy. Shell ask if you want to buy turnips and tell you the purchase price.

Turnips prices range between 90-110 bells. Generally, youll want to purchase higher quantities when the price is lower to maximize your return.

  • Select Ill buy some. Daisy sells turnips in stacks of 10. You can only purchase as many as you can carry but can come back for more once you clear space in your inventory.

  • Enter how many turnips youd like to purchase. You have the choice of entering a number manually or selecting Buy the Max to buy as many turnips as you can afford/carry .

  • Confirm purchase by selecting Yeah, Ill buy em.

  • Since Animal Crossing happens in real-time, youll have to wait for an actual Sunday to roll around before you can buy turnips. However, you can adjust your Nintendo Switch system clock to time travel to a different date to skip the waiting period.

That said, time-traveling is generally frowned upon in the Animal Crossing community because it undercuts the games laidback pace. You may also mess up island events due to Animal Crossings autosave structure, so its best to be patient and avoid time traveling if you can.

How To Buy Turnips In Animal Crossing

You will need to unlock the Nooks Cranny so that you can purchase turnips. To do so, you will have to settle your first loan with Tommy Nook. After that, proceed to Resident Services where Tommy Nook will ask for your assistance in building a small shop the Nooks Cranny on the island.

For this task, you will need to collect 30 pieces for each of the following items: wood, softwood, hardwood, and iron. Deliver them to Tommy Nook for construction to begin. The Nooks Cranny will be completed in a day.

A character by the name Daisy Mae will, in turn, visit your town on Sundays. She can only be seen from 4:00 am to 12:00 pm. This is the only day you can purchase turnips. She sells them in bundles of 10. The price usually varies from 90 to 110 Bells. It is advisable to purchase them at a lower price so that you can sell them at a higher price. You can purchase as many turnips as you want.

Due to the varying price of turnips in Animal Crossing, each player may be presented with a different price. For instance, one player may be able to purchase turnips for 92 Bells each, while another has a price of 95 Bells each. Youre allowed to buy turnips when visiting another players island if they have access to a better price than you do.

    Recommended Prices
    • An Island with a turnip price of 500 Bells in Nooks Cranny
    • An Island with a turnip price of 90 Bells from Daisy Mae

This method requires Time Travelling, but is an efficient way of earning bells through Turnip Trading.

One player time travels to a day when Turnip prices are high, while the other time travels to Sunday when Turnip prices are low.

Both players will alternate visiting each others islands to maximize the profits from selling Turnips!

The other islands clock doesnt affect your Turnips

Even if the in-game clock is different on the Switch of the island you visit, it wont cause your Turnips to rot.

The state of your Turnips is based on your own islands clock, so even if you or the other player have Time Traveled before, you can travel to any players island without fear.

Just Drop Turnips In Your House

    Animal Crossing: New Horizons

First things first: Just drop ’em in your house! Since you can’t use your home’s storage, you might as well use the space you got anyways. In Animal Crossing: City Folk and Animal Crossing: New Leaf, this was my tried and true method. I’d usually store them in the basement, with all my gyroids. Here, you can see me store them in what I like to call my “toilet room.” It is not a bathroom, it is just where I collect my many toilets. I moved them from my backyard into here.

When Should You Sell These Turnips In Animal Crossing

Timmy and Tommy roam around the island purchasing these turnips. Sadly, they don’t purchase the turnips on Sundays. Anything above 200 bells is a decent price for a turnip. On a good week, these turnips might go for over 400 bells apiece. Timmy and Tommy change the price of these turnips twice everyday, so the players can track these in order to spot a recurring pattern.

It is important to note that the prices of these turnips will increase at least twice a week in Animal Crossing. The gamble is whether the players decide to sell on that first increase or wait for another one.

    Predicting Turnip Prices Via Calculators

There is no 100% accurate way to predict what your turnip prices are going to do throughout the week, but the New Horizons community has come up with a few tools to give you a better idea over what your turnip prices are going to do throughout the week.

The first turnip calculator to note is the one on NookNet, which is very cute and gives you a platform to track your turnip prices easily.

This other calculator on Github displays charts of potential turnip price curves and the percentages other players have recorded them happening.

It’s up to personal preference which tool you decide to use.

HOW TO: Make a FORTUNE with TURNIPS [Animal Crossing: New Horizons]

Animal Crossing New Horizons has certainly been keeping gamers happy in lockdown, with the game quickly becoming one of Nintendo Switchs biggest launches ever when it was released back in March.

Since then its served up a few treats for players, from the Easter Egg event earlier this month through to the Sunday sale of turnips.

How Animal Crossing: New Horizons Turnips Storage Works

There’s a bit of a weird issue with Animal Crossing: New Horizons turnips storage, in that you can’t, in fact, really store them anywhere. You’re not able to whack them in your home storage whatsoever, but you can just drop them on the floor in your home – or around your home / rest of the island.

We assume that this is to prevent you from forgetting the turnips you bought just days previously, but doesn’t become a bit of an inconvenience – especially if you don’t want to waste a precious pocket slot for turnips.

And if you’re wondering whether you can plant turnips in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, that’s also a negative. You cheeky things you.

It’s worth noting that turnips place around your island will be seen by Isabelle – and therefore the island rating system – as trash, so you will be unable to achieve / maintain a 5-star rating with turnips lying around.

    by Nicholas Barth

Turnips have become one of the main attractions in the world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, as the vegetable has become the most valuable item that players can acquire and sell to help improve their financial situations. Tips & Tricks To To Lower Risk & Always Profit From Turnips

While its impossible to guarantee yourself a profit and avoid all possible losses when playing the Stalk Market in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, there are a few extra tricks to increase your chances of success.

    Work Together With Friends

The number one way to always beat the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Stalk Market and avoid finding yourself in trouble is work together with some friends, and the more the merrier! While your own islands Turnip sell prices may be poor during the week, each and every individual island has its own price.

So if you check in with your friends all week long to see what their prices are, your chances of at least someone you know including yourself having a profitable sell price increases dramatically!

Selling turnips at a friends island couldnt be simpler either just head over to the Airport, visit their island, and head over to their Nooks Cranny to begin selling. Of course, youll need to stuff your inventory full of all your Turnips and this may require multiple trips if you purchased a lot.

And remember, if you do make a massive profit at another players island, its considered polite to leave a small tip of Bells if you can for their time. We usually try and tip about 5% of our total profits if possible!

Sell Only Some of Your Turnips Early

Another way to minimize potential losses in the Stalk Market is to be smart and hedge your bets by selling a partial amount of your Turnips earlier on during the week.

How To Sell Turnips And Prices

Animal Crossing New Horizons: Turnips and Stalk Market ...

Selling turnips in Animal Crossing is incredibly easy. Throughout the week after buying from Daisy Mae, youll want to head into your Islands Nooks Cranny and speak to Timmy and Tommy.

Each day, their prices will continue to fluctuate up and down. It can be worth waiting throughout the week to make sure youre getting the best bang for your buck, though, so dont be too eager to spend them all on Monday.

Predicting whether or not youre likely to get a better price throughout the week is a lot of trial and error, though. This is mainly due to the fact that Timmy and Tommys buying prices change twice daily, between the hours of 8 AM and 12 PM.

Since Turnip prices in Animal Crossing: New Horizons constantly fluctuate throughout the week, whether buying or selling, youll need to keep track of prices yourself or use a calculation site like Turnip Calculator to take out the need for hard work.

If you decide to do this, be sure to remember where you keep the turnips! They do rot after one week, so if you lose track of them after putting them in the ground, those Bells will be wasted and your storage efforts will be for nothing.

You must sell your turnips to keep them from rotting in Animal Crossing New Horizons. Rotting turnips is something that cannot be prevented in Animal Crossing New Horizons meaning they must be sold relatively quick.

Why Do My Turnips Keep Spoiling Animal Crossing

Now, players will find that their turnips will be spoiled if they do not sell them by the next Sunday following the Sunday when they purchased them. If their vegetables are not sold in this week, they will rot and be worthless when it comes to you being able to sell them for any kind of decent profit.

Every Sunday, most players’ minds will turn to Animal Crossing: New Horizons turnips, thanks to the arrival of an NPC called Daisy-Mae. These vegetables aren’t for growing though, as they’re actually the game’s version of a stock market of sorts – aka the stalk market.

On Sundays, you buy turnips for one price, and then you aim to sell them before the next Sunday rolls around – hopefully for a higher price than you paid for them. Each day, the Nook nephews will buy turnips from you at a different price. It’s then a gamble as to when you sell them – and what size profit you make.

Some Creative Ways To Store Your Precious Turnips In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

      It’s turnip time.

I will never take the time to learn how stocks work. It’s not like I could afford to invest anyways. But in Animal Crossing, I’m always playing the stocks, baby.

Or rather, the “Stalk Market,” an ongoing stocks-like trade where turnips are shares and the rates for how much you can sell them off for change from morning to evening. Most of the time, it’s under profit or barely for a profit. Other times, you’re like some folks I’ve seen on Twitter, with wildly high 500+ Bells rates for selling Turnips basically, you can be on the road to being a Bellionaire. So, when you buy hundreds of Turnips every Sunday morning from sweet lil Daisy Mae, that’s a good ass day. There’s a twist too: You only have until the following Sunday to sell your turnips, or else, they rot.

There’s always been one pesky catch with turnip trading: You can’t just put them into your house’s storage. If you try, the only options you have is to eat a turnip or drop them. If you’re outside, you can bury thembut they don’t plant a tree like fruits they leave a mark on the ground, akin to where you’re able to dig up fossils.

Basically, you have to get creative in storing your turnips. Luckily, my many years of Animal Crossing experience have your back. Here’s just a few ways you can store your turnips in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Without, y’know, actually storing them.
