How To Upgrade Your House In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Once you have your first home, the process to them upgrade follows a more familiar routine as with previous Animal Crossing games.

Instead of Nook Miles, house upgrades are paid with Bells, the game’s other currency. Though it’s widely used throughout all parts of the game, you can increase your cash flow from various Animal Crossing money making techniques.

Nook will give you a mortgage for the next upgrade once you have paid off the last upgrade. This means once you have paid off the initial 98,000 payment for the initial house, you can get underway with the process of expanding.

Invite Three New Villagers To Your Island

Finding new villagers is pretty easy as long as you have the Nook Miles necessary for a plane ticket. Purchase the Nook Miles Ticket for 2,000 Nook Miles at the Nook Stop in Resident Services. Then, run down to the airport and tell the dodo behind the desk that you want to fly to another island.

As long as you have space available on your island, you’ll encounter a random animal NPC while on your trip. Talk to them and invite them to live on your island. You’ll need to make at least three different trips and invite each animal separately.

    Left Room: 548000 Bells

Many people dedicate their entire left room to a kitchen. The issue is, it’s sometimes best to leave the kitchen for later. Kitchen appliances are easy to find there’s lots in Nook’s Cranny, they often drop from gifts but kitchen countertops, islands, and basically anything to put them on are, for some reason, in seriously short supply. Far too many people end up with a room full of kitchen appliances on the floor because there’s nowhere to put them.

Kitchen islands are coveted like gold in this game.

How To Get The House Storage Upgrade In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

House upgrade guide for Animal Crossing: New Horizons ...

Much like every other type of upgrade, players will need to seek out Tom Nook. Assuming this is after the town has developed a bit, he’ll be in the town hall. One of the first things a player needs before they can achieve this upgrade is to have gotten and paid off all other upgrades to the player’s home. This includes expanding the first floor, having all the additional rooms on the first floor, getting a second floor, and a basement.

Nearly all of these renovations will cost over 100,000 bells, so players will need to go through quite a bit of grinding. The secondary thing to remember is that it always takes one day before an upgrade will go through. This means that even with quite a bit of grinding, it will likely take a couple of days if the player hasn’t gotten all of their house upgrades.

Once all of that is done, players can head to see Tom Nook at the town hall as usual. Ask him about the player’s home and ask for the final upgrade to the house storage. This will cost a hefty sum of 500,000 bells, but don’t feel pressured to pay off this in a hurry. Players will still receive the upgrade before payment, a day after the request.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons;is exclusively available on the Nintendo Switch.

    Tent: 5000 Nook Miles

The loan for a tent is 5,000 Nook Miles. That might sound like a high number at first but as you progress in the game, you’ll realize 5,000 Nook Miles is actually not a lot. This is the only time you’ll be asked to pay in miles rather than bells,;so this is actually pretty generous of Tom Nook because it’ll allow you to get a house upgrade quickly.

Although you can absolutely decorate your tent, your house will be more aesthetically pleasing from the outside once it’s been upgraded, so it might be best to wait.

Inventory In Animal Crossing: New Horizons Explained

In New Horizons, your inventory is referred to as your pockets, which you can access by pressing X. It’s within these pockets that you’ll hold all the materials, bugs, fish, flowers, clothing and other items you collect while playing.

When you first begin playing New Horizons, you’ll only be able to hold 20 items in your pockets. As you continue, however, you’ll be able to expand your inventory; first to 30 and later to 40.

You purchase these inventory upgrades using Nook Miles and, in total, you’ll need 13,000 Nook Miles to purchase both expansions. Though you do have to unlock the ability to purchase them first.

Everything Else You Need To Know About Managing Your Storage In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

There are a couple of things you can do in New Horizons to help you manage your storage, aside from upgrading it.

The first is that you can’t store Turnips in your house storage. Presumably this is to stop you from cheating on the Stalk Market by hiding a load of Turnips until the market price is high.

This means that you either have to keep your Turnips in your inventory or leave them on the ground.

Secondly, since you can place most items anywhere on your island, this means you can border off a small space for extra storage.

This is very useful if you’re waiting for the Museum to finish upgrading or don’t want to lose out on any Bells by using the Nook’s Cranny dropbox.

Your pockets also have more to offer than simply holding your items, it’s also where you’ll find your wallet, which can hold up to 99,999 Bells. If you end up holding more than that amount, then the remaining Bells will appear as Bell Bags in your pockets.

You can also take out a certain amount of bells out of your wallet and hold it in Bell Bags. These amounts are:

    • 100 Bells

How To Get A House In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

As you start New Horizons with temporary accommodation – a tent – you’ll be keen to upgrade it to a house with its own four walls and a roof as soon as possible.

To do this, you need 5,000 Nook Miles to upgrade your tent. This requires you to participate in the series of challenges listed in the Nook Mileage program – from the daily Nook Miles + activities to regular long term Nook Miles tasks.

Once that’s done, Nook will happily accept your Miles to get your house construction underway.

With your home in place, you can start decorating right away – adding wallpaper and flooring of your choosing, and laying out furniture, and storing items you don’t want to keep on your person.

Of course, you might run out of room pretty quickly, or you want to add extra rooms – perhaps for a kitchen or anything else you decide to use your house for. Which is where house upgrades come in!

Getting A House In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

House Upgrades In Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

First things first, youre going to need to make your way to Residential Services. The location of it will vary depending on the layout of the island you chose.

Once here, go inside and talk to Tom Nook. Youll have the option to upgrade your house when speaking to him. After a bit of spiel about labor and remodelling costs, Tom Nook will give you the price youll have to pay. Or the loan youll have to repay in typical Animal Crossing fashion.

Specifically, youre going to need to take out a loan of 98,000 Bells to get your first home. This is quite a lot of Bells, but remember that just about everything you do in the game can help you earn money.

On top of that, Tom Nook isnt a completely horrible raccoon. The loans he offers you for your first home and any future extensions you make to it are all interest free, and theres no minimum repayment or anything youll need to make in a set time limit. Youre free to repay the loan at your own leisure, so dont stress about it too much.

Note: You must pay off the house loan with Bells, not Nook Miles, and you cannot start paying off the loan on your house until the following day when the new house has been built.
