How Amiibo And Amiibo Cards Work In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Invite all your old favourites to your island by using the Animal Crossing: New Horizons amiibo functionality

Animal Crossing: New Horizons amiibo and amiibo cards can be incredibly useful for a number of things during island life. If you’re sitting on a wealth of Animal Crossing-themed amiibo and the related amiibo cards, you’re in luck, because there are a few ways they are supported in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Not only is a cute way to get mileage out of your no doubt vast collections of NFC critters, but it could also help you progress in the game. That’s because Animal Crossing: New Horizons amiibo support actually comes in two distinct forms: one is more focused on having fun and being silly, but the other is actually really useful for building the profile of your little island paradise.

Here’s how Animal Crossing: New Horizons amiibo functionality works.

Ensure The Campsite Is Unlocked

Before you can invite a villager to your island using your new amiibo card, you must first have the campsite available on your island. The campsite will be unlocked after youve progressed through the game, shortly after the Resident Services building has been constructed.

After youve chosen a spot for the new campsite, Tom Nook or Isabella will begin announcing when a new villager is staying at the campsite. Visits happen randomly, and the visitor will always be random. After speaking to the campsite visitor multiple times, you might be able to convince them to move to your campsite. However, if your island is full, you must choose a villager to replace with the visitor.

Heres everything you need to know about the campsite and recruiting new characters.

What Can You Do At Harveys Island Villager Photopia

If youve played Animal Crossing: New Leaf, you might recall a hippy dog named Harvey as one of the particular villagers. After a few days of playing in New Horizons, this dog will randomly appear on your island. Make sure you talk to him, and hell invite you to visit his island home. The awesome thing is that the airport allows you to fly to him for free. No Nook Miles Tickets required.

Instead of foraging for materials, bugs, and fish, Harveys island only lets you walk into Harveys house. Once inside, youll be able to set up a scene in one of his rooms and take pictures with your favorite villagers. That is, as long as you have that villager on your island or have a corresponding amiibo to invite them with. You can place different furniture, change the lighting in the room, and position your favorite Animal Crossing villagers in various locations before taking pictures with them. You can have up to 10 animal villagers in one room at a time.

However, it should be noted that not every amiibo works with New Horizons. So far, the game has warned me that Digby and Resetti cant be invited to Photopia. This had also been the case for Reese, Cyrus, and Rover up until another update arrived. Im guessing that any amiibo figures that currently dont work with New Horizons will be usable once future updates are released.

Add A New Resident If You Want To

But you can also add any of the Animal Crossing Sanrio characters as new residents on your island. To do this, you’ll need to invite them to your island via the Nook Terminal in Residents Services to your campsite. It’s then a case of doing the usual thing of inviting them every day over the course of three or four days and making them presents, until they say they’re ready to move in.

Full instructions for this can be found in our Animal Crossing: New Horizons amiibo guide.
