There Are Plenty Of Reasons To Be Afraid Of Kapp’n
It’s no secret that travel is a big part of Animal Crossing, and, as luck would have it, there exists a character whose main purpose is to shuttle you to and fro. Whether it’s by boat or by taxi, you can count on Kapp’n to get you where you need to go. Unfortunately, you can also count on Kapp’n to be extra creepy while he’s doing it especially if your character is a woman.
If you make the mistake of taking a ride with Kapp’n, you can expect inappropriate questions like, “So … are ye romantically involved with anyone?” and “Yar I’m just curious, could a lass like yerself fall for a turtle like me?” These inquiries come flying your way even though Kapp’n is and has a kid. Holy smokes.
And it gets worse, because Kapp’n isn’t a turtle at all, despite saying he is. As some Reddit users discovered, Kapp’n is actually based on a Japanese monster called the Kappa. That’s right, kids “kappa” isn’t just a meme used by people in Twitch chats it’s a creature from Japanese folklore that abducts and eats children. Think about that the next time Kapp’n offers you a ride.
So How Do You Actually Play Animal Crossing
Up to four players can play Animal Crossing: New Horizons at one time via Party Play, where one character is the leader who chooses activities for the group , and up to eight players via wireless play .
Players can also visit islands created by other players once theyve built an airport , and invite others to visit theirs as well using a private code players set for their specific island. Innovative players have been using this feature to do things like plan in-game celebrations as replacements for birthday parties that have been canceled due to social distancing. The code helps protect younger players from online predators its difficult for anyone who doesnt have a persons private island code to interact with someone else via the game.
There are additional apps, like the Best Friends app and the Chat Log app, that allow players to chat online, and these apps do allow players to accept invitations from strangers. For anyone worried about online safety, they can use the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app, which can assist in monitoring online play and determining which apps are enabled.
Why Do People Love Animal Crossing
Animal Crossing is a life simulator. Each game has you move to a new town inhabited by adorable anthropomorphic animals. The latest entry in the series, New Horizons, has you sailing to a deserted island after purchasing a holiday package from a raccoon called Tom Nook.
If youve never played an Animal Crossing game before, dont be put off. Theres no story or homework to catch up on to enjoy this outing. Im envious of anyone who hasnt already dipped their toes in. Theres so much to discover and fall in love with on your first outing.
The series began life on the GameCube in 2001, which established many of the franchises long-running characteristics. The most notable of these is a real-time clock and calendar that mirrors the real-life passage of time. The seasons change as they do in real life. Playing at different times of day provides different things to see and do, too.
While the game offers many things to explore, the core gameplay loop is simple. When you start, youll be given a basic dwelling and a loan from Tom Nook. You earn currency to pay off your loan, which in turn upgrades your dwelling. Youll then be given a new loan to work off until youve got the biggest house in the village.
Although this might not sound compelling on paper, the way Nintendo presents Animal Crossing elicits a sense of calm and serenity that few other games can match. The naive art style, soft yet vibrant color palette, and lullaby-like music is good for the soul.

Statistics Show That Animal Crossing: New Horizons Mostly Played By Adults
Believe it or not, but this adorably-relaxing game isnt only for kids. In fact, statistics show that Animal Crossing: New Horizons is mostly played by adults. This game is extremely well-loved by so many players, so much so that it was actually on top of the Japanese rankings for two consecutive weeks.
In a report by 4Gamer via VGC, the games director Aya Kyogoku shared statistics and demographics relating to Animal Crossing. New Horizons was initially designed with both men and women in mind.
In fact, the male to female ratio within the team of developers was equal in order to make sure that an equal number of men and women will play the game as well. It turns out that their tactics paid off, as the data found shows an even split between the males and females.
The game currently has a wide variety of items, and this will only grow by next year as Animal Crossing will feature by next year. Kyogoku also mentioned that for those who first get introduced to the game, people would assume that New Horizons is something for little girls.
Now, this new statistic can disprove this assumption, as the game has players that arent only girls, but theyre not so young either. According to series head Hisashi Nogami, New Horizons demographic reveals that most of the players are in their 20s or 30s.
Animal Crossing Adult Villager: Tiffany
Although the Animal Crossing Wiki describes snooty villager Tiffany as bearing a strong resemblance to Audrey Hepburn from Breakfast at Tiffany’s , she certainly has some vibes from The Rocky Horror Picture Show as well. Both movies aren’t really geared towards children, particularly the latter.
The pursed dark red lips, heavy makeup, haughty expression, fishnet stockings, and overall showgirl-esque ensemble comes off as more sultry and mature than what one may expect from a child-friendly video game.

What Are The Negatives
Theres undoubtedly a lot to love about Animal Crossing but, as with most games, its not perfect. When first booting up the game, the pacing can feel a little slow. It takes real-life time for things to happen on your childs island and, for the first few days, they might feel like theyve run out of things to do. Not to worry though once theyve gotten over the initial hump, the possibilities are endless.
You can also only create one save game per console, which might cause trouble if you have several children sharing a Switch. Although you can have many different users on the Switch, the game only allows you to create one island across the board and there are no resets. Its a shame, really, as each island layout has different natural resources and fauna to explore, so it might cause friction between siblings who have differing views of what the perfect island paradise looks like.

The People Who Spent The Year In Animal Crossing
Snow topped trees, ice sculptures and the sound of rushing waterfalls. Susana Liang built out her Animal Crossing island complete with a Christmas dinner, various shops, a wedding reception, an igloo campsite, a picnic, a mini version of the Greek island Santorini, elaborate walkways and a cozy home with plenty of Christmas trees.
Winter makes everything covered in snow and its all white, so it makes it feel a bit more ethereal and dreamy. Its one of my favorite seasons in the game, said Liang, who works in health science in New York and has spent over 2,300 hours playing Nintendos Animal Crossing: New Horizons since a few weeks after the games release. Its always winter on her island. Every time winter is about to end, she time travels back to the beginning of January to stay in the season.
The game debuted on March 20, 2020 and has sold over 31 million units, coming in second place behind Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as the best-selling title on the Nintendo Switch. The global pandemic has also endured for a year, and Liang is one of many players who have spent the equivalent of a month or more playing the game and transforming their islands from grass-covered and rural to unique vacations away from real-world problems.
Smith is one of the admins who run the Facebook group Animal Crossing Free Community, with over 11,000 members. The group is dedicated to sharing free items with each other and fostering a sense of community among fans of the game.
New Horizons Is A Holiday
The whole premise of Animal Crossing: New Horizons is that youre heading to a deserted island for a holiday. To begin, all you have available to you is a tent, and its up to you to get to know your neighbors and take advantage of the world around you to move up in the world.
New Horizons introduces a few long-awaited features, including a robust crafting system. You can use basic resources like wood to craft items, then use items you have crafted to craft even more items. In previous titles, you could only decorate your house, but New Horizons lets you put furniture and decorative items anywhere on the island.
The game also introduces a new currency, known as Nook Miles, that you earn by completing various tasks around the island. You can use your Nook Miles to buy unique items not available through other means. A deeper social system allows you to influence how other residents behave, including where they should build their homes.
The games other systems have also been expanded. Theres now an option to select between northern and southern hemispheres so that the seasons are correct wherever youre playing. There are new types of weather, an expanded character customization system, and for the first time ever the game is in full HD.
The game was supposed to launch in late 2019, but Nintendo delayed it to apply a final layer of polish. In the end, the timing couldnt have been better.

Adults: Providing The Means To Ultimate Control
A lot of things are out of the control of adults but if there is one thing they can control, it’s where to put flowers in town, how to set up the perfect house aesthetic, and most importantly, kicking out unwanted townsfolk. If’s there’s that one person you can’t stand in real life, pretend their an obnoxious or ugly villager in Animal Crossing. In the virtual world, you can give as many cold shoulders as you want and even smack a few villagers in the head with a bug net.

There’s Some Weird Cannibal Stuff Going On
A lot of video games feature animals as the stars, and it’s clear the concept is a popular one. Players love seeing Donkey Kong leap from platform to platform and adore Sonic’s spin dash. Most people have probably never seen a real-life bandicoot before, so Crash is the clear favorite. Animals are a staple of video games. But when you get into the simulation side of things and animals are the characters the situation gets weird.
Here’s a question for you: what do the animals in Animal Crossing eat? Are they against killing their own kind, either for food or for luxury?
It’s strange to think about, but even more strange when you play while keeping this in mind. It’s not unusual to see cows chilling out on cowskin rugs, for example. Birds attending a barbecue where other birds are roasted isn’t out of the ordinary. Heck, as Reddit user animalcrosser93 found, you can even get a turkey to come over for Thanksgiving dinner. The human character’s eyes in the shot above say it all: it’s bizarre and slightly uncomfortable.
Given how games are made, you could probably insert whatever kind of character into a situation and get a similar if not the same result. But maybe Nintendo should pay more attention to these awkward circumstances. While serving up steaks in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you don’t want Patty to get offended.
Animal Crossing Censorship Enrages Adult Players
13 years agoJim Sterling
Today, we received a furious email from an incensed Animal Crossing fan, absolutely horrified by the fact that a new update to the game has censored bad words. For Christina and her friend, there was no greater joy than making Animal Crossing characters say depraved and nasty things. Unfortunately, their innocent fun has been stamped out by those Nazis at Nintendo. Wont somebody think of the children?
Heres what Christina had to say:
Animal crossing santized EVEN MORE
My roommate and I are animalcrossing addicts! We are adults, and as such take delight in making our little innocent animals say nasty things. At this point most of the animals in our town had the catch phrase sex fiend… up until last nights system update. Now everyone who had a catch phrase containing a bad word has had their phrase switched to !!!!!!!!!!!! Thats right, now everyone in town is spewing exclamation points at us. I love nintendo to bits but this is just wrong. We are ADULTS who purchased a game to play in our own home.
Nintendo has set a terrifying new precedent with this insane abuse of power. We have only fear for the future of free speech.

What Is Animal Crossing About
The central premise of every AC game is that your character comes to a new town or city and attempts to build a new home and develop friendships with your animal villagers. You get a loan from Tom Nook, a tanooki with wads of money. You’ll be in debt to him for the majority of the game as you work to pay off your house and make upgrades to your living situation.
As far as day-to-day gameplay goes, you basically do a lot of mundane chores that you wouldn’t want to do in real life, but somehow it becomes satisfying within the game. For instance, you can run around your village pulling all of the weeds, talk to every villager in an attempt to return a lost item, remodel your home, plant flowers, go fishing, plan new village facilities, sneak up on bugs, decorate your home, rearrange your furniture, and sell everything that you can get your grubby little hands on to the local used goods store.
This seemed so boring to me when I first started playingNew Leaf on my 3DS that I initially turned the game off shortly after starting it, never intending to play again. However, a few days later, I decided to force myself to continue, and a strange thing happened I found myself enjoying this simple village life.
Kids: It Teaches Them The Meaning Of Life
The most important rule of life nothing is free. That’s right, old Tom Nook is here to bring the harsh, cruel world of capitalism to children’s attention through the use of bells and cheeky dialogue. By the time kids become adults, they’re ready for the real world Tom Nooks. Though, 50,000 bells will most likely be their tuition loan and not a home mortgage. It’s a tough life out there, kids. Get ready for it with Animal Crossing.
