How To Fast Forward Game Time In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Let’s Play: Animal Crossing New Horizons – In Real Time

POST CATEGORIES:

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is synced to real life time. This changes a lot of mechanics in the game, lets use being in the Northern Hemisphere as an example. If youre playing the game in December, it will likely be snowing on your Island. Likewise, if you can only play during the night, it will be dark in-game and most NPCs will be sleeping.

For that reason, it might be more feasible for you to manually change the time and date to your choosing. Doing so will also help you progress through the game faster, although this could be considered cheating a little bit. If an NPC is expected to show up the next day, you could just move the time forward on your system, turning that wait into seconds.

This guide was created during the first week of Animal Crossing: New Horizons release on the Nintendo Switch. Depending on when youre reading this guide, some thing may be different due to future updates. However well always try to come back and update these guides! But New Horizons Has Real Frustrations

With New Horizons, Nintendo addressed hurdles that prevented some people from getting into Animal Crossing. And while a list of achievements like Nook Miles demystifies the game, Im willing to trade some of the illusion to get a more rewarding game overall.

My deeper frustrations with New Horizons dont stem from a comparison to New Leaf. Im still more hung up on the interface and multiplayer.

Before I get into this, Ill admit that I just spent a lot of words critically examining Nintendos decisions to streamline and modernize Animal Crossings mechanics. Now, Im going to beg the company to streamline and modernize its user experience. But Ill gladly declare myself a hypocrite to not have to go through four button presses and an animation to build one DIY recipe.

I get that Nintendo wants to make Animal Crossing feel conversational, and it should maintain that when it comes to the villagers and maybe even the shopkeepers and Tom Nook. But I dont want to have a conversation with my workbench or the airline.

Let me queue up recipes in my workbench and hook the bench into my homes storage. When I want to go online, I get that Nintendo wants me to go the airport. But then just give me all of the options in a single menu. Its baffling that if I choose the wrong option, I cant just go back one menu. I instead have to start the conversation over from the beginning.

Its infuriating.

Animal Crossing New Horizons Explained From Basics To Villagers Mushrooms And The Damselfly

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is one of the biggest hits of lockdown.

The game was released on Nintendo’s gaming console Switch on March 20, around the time we all started retreating into our homes, and 13.4 million copies were snapped up by gamers across the globe in its first six weeks on sale setting a new record for a Switch game, and spurring a run on the console that left Switches in short supply.

Celebrities like Maisie Williams and T-Pain are fans, and Elijah Wood might pop into your island to hang if you’re lucky:

US congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez joined the game earlier this month and then began making house calls to other player’s islands.

Even casual gamers are buying in: Beverley Wang, presenter of RN’s Stop Everything!, got her hands on a Switch console two weeks ago for the express purpose of playing Animal Crossing.

“I have become an Animal Crossing: New Horizons devotee,” she admits.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Is Different

The FOMO is not completely external to New Horizons. Vice Gamings Gita Jackson does a great job of explaining that here. Im not going to restate her, so go read that as well. But Ill add that Nintendo has made some subtle additions and tweaks to Animal Crossings formula that make New Horizons feel fundamentally different.

In my review, I noted that New Horizons supports longer play sessions than the early game in New Leaf. And this is generally a good thing. You can still fish, catch bugs, travel to an island for resources, and decorate your home. But now you can also collect crafting resources and DIY recipes, decorate outdoors, and complete achievement-style quests.

Or maybe you can try to get all the items during a timed event like some sad people:

In addition to just giving players more to do, New Horizons additional features also change the cadence of Animal Crossing.

In New Leaf, players were pretty limited in terms of options of how to progress. You could upgrade your home, add to your museum, design clothing, and interact with your villagers. New Leafs mechanics were simpler and I would even call them worse than New Horizons.

But because everything was equally devoid of intrinsic rewards, many players felt they had more freedom to choose their own path in New Leaf. New Horizons, meanwhile, can often make you feel like you could be doing something more efficient with your time.

Time Travel And Stalk Market

ANIMAL CROSSING: To Catch a Predator

Timmy and Tommy’s turnip buying prices are randomized every day, and are randomized again if you turn back time to buy more turnips and return – making it impossible to make a time traveller’s killing on the stalk market. At least, in your own game.

Here’s how to cheat the stalk market and make a ton of bells on turnips:

  • First, a friend, or a friendly person online, will need to monitor their turnip prices. When they get a great price, ask them to open their gates for you. See How to Play Multiplayer if you need to learn how to do this.
  • Any turnips you already have will spoil if you travel back in time, so consider visiting your friend’s island and selling them first before continuing with this cheat!
  • Now that you’re turnip free, change your Nintendo Switch’s date and time within the system settings. Set it to the previous Sunday, any time between 5am and 12pm.
  • Purchase a ton of turnips from Daisy Mae, the traveling boar turnip seller. Just fill your pockets with as many as you can.
  • Go straight to your friend’s island with the awesome turnip buying prices. You don’t even have to change the date on your own Switch!
  • Sell your turnips. Make major profit.
  • You can repeat steps 3 through 5 as many times as you want before Nook’s Cranny closes in your friend’s town
  • Keep in mind your friend can’t time travel, or else their turnip prices will reset! Leave them a few sacks of 99k bells as thanks.

How To Change Date And Time In Animal Crossing

The time travel cheat is the same, well-known one thats been in the Animal Crossing community forever, and if youve ever played any of the games youve probably heard about it before. Heres a step-by-step guide.

    • Go to the home screen make sure Animal Crossing is closed.
    • Head over to System Settings and select date and time and turn off the synchronize clock via the internet option.
    • Set your time and date to whatever you want.
    • Open Animal Crossing back up and check it out.

But, before you go jumping through time, its important to note that things in the game will continue, simulating as if you had not been there. For example, weeds will cover your island and some of your favorite villagers might decide to hit the road, which can be a major bummer.

You dont necessarily have to change things by months and weeks though, you could simply change it from day to night in order to try and catch a certain fish or bug instead of waiting to do it later. Smaller time changes would also make it less likely your villagers will split on you.

Why The Nintendo Switch Game Is So Popular During Coronavirus

The first game in the series was simply called Animal Crossing, released in 2001 in Japan. A North American version followed in 2002.

The series was created by Katsuya Eguchi, a Japanese game designer whose previous credits include work on Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, Star Fox 2, Wave Race 64 and Yoshi’s Story.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the fifth game in the series, following Animal Crossing: Wild World, Animal Crossing: City Folk, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Three Animal Crossing spin-off games have also been released Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer for Nintendo 3DS, Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival for Wii U, and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp for mobile devices.

Mega Ran says he’d played the last few games a bit, but never had the time to get the most out of Animal Crossing until he started getting hooked on New Horizons.

“Now, I have nothing but time, so it’s the perfect game for that,” he says. “It rewards your patience and gives you something to look forward to every time you turn it on, like that no other game does. It’s not a game you can play for 12 hours and beat, like a Mario.”

What Happens If You Time Travel

While we neither condemn nor condone time manipulation in Animal Crossing, we do caution that there are many varied in-game consequences to these types of actions.

    The good:

    • Cash Money: Make more Bells with interest on saved money in your ABD
    • Event Attendance: Skip ahead to events in the future – such as KK Slider concerts, birthdays, or upcoming fishing tournaments
    • Expedited Mail: Get items in the mail more quickly
    • Finish Things Faster: Speed up the process of new villagers moving in, fruit regrowing on trees, renovations & upgrades to buildings, trees and flowers growing, etcetera
    • Shopping Spree: Access new items and inventory at shops on different days
    • Seasonal Sporting: Access other times of the year to catch out-of-season fish and bugs
    • Early Birds & Night Owls: Adjust time of day to access things that may be closed, such as shops
    • Eviction Notice: Get rid of those villagers you despise much more quickly by ignoring them for days on end, until they finally decide to pack up and leave

    The bad:

    The ugly:

    • Trashed turnips: Time traveling backwards, or forwards to the upcoming Sunday and beyond, will automatically spoil any turnips in your possession
    • Neglected neighbors: Time traveling multiple days at once puts you at risk of losing some of your residents, as they begin to feel ignored – again, this can be a plus if you’re looking to ditch some unwanted villagers, but you won’t necessarily have control over which ones leave if you travel too far

How To Change The Nintendo Switch Date And Time

You can Time Travel by changing your Nintendo Switch Date and Time, just make sure the clock is not synced to the internet first! Heres how to do it.

  • Select System Settings.
  • Scroll down to the bottom and select System.
  • Select Date and Time.
  • Make sure Synchronize Clock via Internet is set to Off.
  • Change the Date and Time to whatever you want!
  • What Is Time Travel In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing: New Horizons on the Nintendo Switch plays in real time, meaning that a day in the game is as long as a day in real life. If you want to speed up your progress, you can change the time settings on your Switch console.

Rather than waiting until the next real-world day, time-traveling lets you advance progress in the game for time-related events, such as new construction, growing fruit trees, and making Bells.

However, for seasonal events such as Bunny Day, time travel cannot be used to activate the event. Your Nintendo Switch must be connected to Wi-Fi to sync with the internet to activate the eventso, time-skipping doesnt work for everything.

Why Animal Crossing Is The Game For The Coronavirus Moment

With the world in the grip of a pandemic, the wildly popular game is a conveniently timed piece of whimsy, particularly for millennials.

Imagine escaping to an island paradise where bags of money fall out of trees and a talking raccoon can approve you for a mortgage.

With the world in the grip of a pandemic, thats exactly the sort of escape that has captivated so many not in their fantasies, but in the world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Its the latest in a series thats been around since 2001, but New Horizons is the first built-from-the-ground-up console release in 19 years. Its also a conveniently timed piece of whimsy for gamers and has become a phenomenon.

In Animal Crossing, players take on the role of a lone human on an island filled with pudgy anthropomorphic animals. Players are tasked with building a thriving society, filling it with shops, bridges and other accommodations for its residents. There are no high scores, vampire Nazis or final bosses. The game is played at a relaxed pace, in which the player can do as much or as little as they want on any given day. Upbeat acoustic jams or sultry bossa nova synths play in the background.

Indeed, there have been more than 38 million tweets about the game since its release, many celebrating its ability to provide comfort and social connection in a time of isolation and struggle.

But when players do run into another resident, their old animal friends will be happy to see that they are doing OK.

What Is A Damselfly And What’s With The Mushrooms

Animal Crossing’s seasons change along with the outside world, and during our southern hemisphere autumn there’s been a number of special items for players to find or catch, including maple leaves, a ‘Damselfly’ and mushrooms.

“You can get recipes from balloons in the sky to make items from the mushrooms, for example, a mushroom wand that will magically change your outfit,” Bruxner explains.

Some items are only available at a specific spot on the map at a specific time, so players need to time their playing times well if they’re going to snap up a Cherry Salmon, Neon Tetra or a Zebra Turkeyfish.

What Are Villagers And Why Are People Ranking Them

Beach Decorating Real Time Build // Animal Crossing: New Horizons

In the words of John Donne: “No man is an island.” And you probably want some company on yours.

There are nearly 400 individualised villagers in the game including a waistcoat-wearing cat named Raymond, and a rainbow-coloured teddy bear named Stitches.

The game allocates you two villagers to start, and you can have up to 10 living on your island at any given time.

But you’ll want to choose carefully.

    Supplied: Grace Bruxner

Games designer Grace Bruxner, who has clocked over 300 hours playing Animal Crossing, says “there’s a lot of discussion online about which villagers are the best and which are the worst”.

What do people usually consider the best? “They either have to look like an anime character or are very cute or a bit weirder than other villagers,” says Bruxner.

There are a number of ways to get villagers, including visiting mystery islands or building a campsite.

In a dark turn towards rampant free-market capitalism, some players are even buying their favourite villagers.

Bruxner doesn’t like to rank Animal Crossing’s villagers, with her sights set on other things: “If you become really good friends with a villager they give you a photo of themselves I haven’t gotten there, it takes a long time, but I really want it.”
