Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Animal Crossing: New Horizons can summon campers and take photos with their favorite NPCs using Nintendo Amiibo. Heres how it works.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons ups the ante on Nintendo Amiibo functionality. Originally introduced for Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival on Wii-U in 2015, Animal Crossing Amiibo figures and cards can now be used to invite desired villagers to live on a players deserted island in New Horizons, as well as to summon various NPCs to Harvs Island for photoshoots.
Previously, Animal Crossing Amiibo figures and cards could be used to invite visitors to a players town in New Leaf, whereupon the player could attempt to encourage that character to move permanently. In addition to the added functionality in New Horizons where players can decide who lives on their island and who doesnt, Amiibo can be used to guarantee that a villager moves in though its a slow process.
Heres a complete guide to using Nintendo Amiibo in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
What Can You Do At Harveys Island Villager Photopia
If youve played Animal Crossing: New Leaf, you might recall a hippy dog named Harvey as one of the particular villagers. After a few days of playing in New Horizons, this dog will randomly appear on your island. Make sure you talk to him, and hell invite you to visit his island home. The awesome thing is that the airport allows you to fly to him for free. No Nook Miles Tickets required.
Instead of foraging for materials, bugs, and fish, Harveys island only lets you walk into Harveys house. Once inside, youll be able to set up a scene in one of his rooms and take pictures with your favorite villagers. That is, as long as you have that villager on your island or have a corresponding amiibo to invite them with. You can place different furniture, change the lighting in the room, and position your favorite Animal Crossing villagers in various locations before taking pictures with them. You can have up to 10 animal villagers in one room at a time.
However, it should be noted that not every amiibo works with New Horizons. So far, the game has warned me that Digby and Resetti cant be invited to Photopia. This had also been the case for Reese, Cyrus, and Rover up until another update arrived. Im guessing that any amiibo figures that currently dont work with New Horizons will be usable once future updates are released.
How To Invite Villagers To The Campsite Using Amiibo
Now that youve unlocked the ability to use amiibo cards, its time to learn how to scan them in and convince campers to move into your island. Youre going to have to scan a villagers card multiple days in a row if you want them to become a resident of your island. Here are the steps needed to acquire a new villager using amiibo cards.
Select invite a Camper.
Scan the amiibo card you want to use. If youre playing your Switch in handheld mode, hover the card over the joystick on the right Joy-Con when New Horizons prompts you to use your amiibo. If youre using the Pro Controller, scan the cards over the Nintendo logo in the top middle of the controller when the game prompts you to use your amiibo.
After scanning your card, a cutscene will play, showing the invited camper. When you leave Resident Services, the villager you invited will be at your campsite. Run to your campsite and enter the tent.
Agree to their request. They might even give you a new recipe in the processes.
The camper is closer to being persuaded, but they wont be ready to move in just yet. The following day repeat steps 1 9.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Villager List
Get to know the new villagers and who’s returning in Animal Crossing: New Horizons before it launches.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is on the way, and Nintendo has confirmed that it will have Amiibo support for both Amiibo figures and cards. Wait, Amiibo cards? If youre not a big Animal Crossing fan, you may not have even known that Amiibo arent just the collectable figurines. Welcome to a whole new world, friend. The Animal Crossing series has tens of Amiibo cards used to bring characters into your parks, so in this guide well explain what Animal Crossing Amiibo cards are, and how theyll work in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Amiibo Functionality In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
So far, there are four different functionalities for amiibo cards and figures in Animal Crossing: New Horizons:
- Set up with models by scanning amiibo on Harvey’s Island
- Purchase posters of scanned Animal Crossing amiibo in Nook Shopping at the Nook Stop kiosk
- Invite amiibo characters to visit your campsite on your island
- Invite visiting campers from these amiibo to move to your island

Use The Nookstop Kiosk At Resident Services
Once the new villager has moved in, head back to Resident Services and talk with Tom Nook. He’ll tell you that he wants to bring even more villagers to the island. Now, run over to the Nook Stop kiosk and interact with it. He’ll tell you that you can now use Animal Crossing amiibo cards to invite more villagers to the island. Just note that you can only have one camper per day.
What Amiibo Unlock In Animal Crossing: New Horizons Explained
Currently, were aware of two features that involve amiibo in Animal Crossing: New Horizons:
- Invite villagers to your island
Inviting villagers to your island
One of the main functions of the amiibo cards in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is to invite villagers to visit your island.
To do this you need to construct the campground on this island. Once you have this location, youll be able to use the Animal Crossing amiibo cards to invite that specific villager to your island.
This villager will then appear in the tent on the campground where youll be able to interact with them.
The Animal Crossing Nintendo Direct also highly suggests that youll be able to encourage these visiting villagers to stay on your island and, possibly, become permanent residents.
Once unlocked, you can dress these models in a variety of clothing, assign them emotions to express, decorate the scene with props and pick out the camera direction before taking your photo.
Since you wont be able to use every single amiibo card, such as DJ KK, in New Horizons straight away, we cant say for sure if there are more special features that will be unlocked by using any form of Animal Crossing amiibo.
Its possible that you could unlock special items, like in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, or special guests, like DJ KK, by using specific amiibos. Well just have to wait and see what lies in store for New Horizons and its continued amiibo support.
What Does She Drink
Stop the presses! A recent photo revealed that Isabelle might have some interesting drinking habits. A picture of her at her desk shows a glass cup filled with a brown liquid. Is it iced tea? Is it cold coffee? Or is it a more “adult beverage?” Is Isabelle a day drinker? Inquiring minds would like to know.
Do Zelda Amiibo Work In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Animal Crossing: New Horizons gained both Mario and Sanrio collaborations this year, but do players also have access to Legend of Zelda characters?
When the Sanrio amiibo collection was released for Animal Crossing: New Horizons the software update was available to Nintendo Switch owners before the amiibo packet was released in stores. This meant that players who had purchased the previous set of Sanrio amiibos, originally released for Animal Crossing: New Leaf Welcome amiibo, could use these cards to summon Sanrio characters before the official release. So does that mean other amiibo, like ones from Legend of Zelda, could be useful to players now too?
In past Animal Crossing installments, players were able to use amiibo from games like Super Smash Bros. to invite characters that represented those from the amiibo. The invited character would show up in an RV and stay at the players campsite. Some characters could then be invited to live on the players island, or would have a selection of items that could only be purchased from that particular character. For instance, amiibo figures and cards from games like Splatoon would call in villagers that were modeled after Splatoon characters, like Cece, the peppy squirrel villager that takes the likeness of Callie from the Squidsisters.
Talk To Your Kids About
Families can talk about consumerism. How much pressure is placed on players to purchase additional “add-ons” to unlock content in a game? Is it necessary to enjoy the base game?
Talk about interacting with the real world versus the virtual world. Do games featuring outdoor activities encourage players to go outside and play in the same way?

She Shared The Stage With Another Cute Icon
When it came to the Nintendo 3Ds, it seems that Isabelle was a flagship character. However, she wasn’t alone in representing Nintendo’s brand. The company had created themes for the handheld console, and one depicted her and the “queen of cuteness” herself, Hello Kitty. This theme seemed only to be carried in Japan’s e-shop, so, if you missed out, that is likely the reason.

Her Japanese Name Reveals Her Profession
The cool part about most video game characters is that they can have some interesting names in other languages. Many times, these titles can go a bit deeper into aspects of the character.
For Isabelle, her Japanese name is “Hisho.” When translated, this word means “secretary,” a clear nod to Isabelle’s profession in most of the Animal Crossing games. However, it was later changed to Shizue, a reference to her dog breed, Shih Tzu.
When Will Animal Crossing: New Horizons Get Zelda Characters
In every previous Animal Crossing installment, there have been nods to the Legend of Zelda series. Either through items or sneaky dialogue. In Animal Crossing: Wild World, players could even find the Master Sword that came complete with sound effects. However, the Legend of Zelda amiibo currently dont work for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but this doesnt necessarily mean a crossover wont happen eventually.
In March of 2021 Nintendo released a set of Super items for Animal Crossing: New Horizons as part of the 35th anniversary celebration for the Super series. Players can order these Super-themed items from the Nook Shopping app on their in-game phone, and stock up on 1-Up Mushrooms or dress up as Princess Peach. However, another huge Nintendo franchise The Legend of Zelda is also celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, even though Nintendo has yet to pay it much mind.
Released on February 21st, 1986, The Legend of Zelda turned 35 this year, and fans were disappointed by Nintendos lack of fanfare. So far, the only release in this series set for 2021 is a remake of Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, which is set for July. Though it is strange that Nintendo didnt release Legend of Zelda items for the 35th anniversary, it seems only a matter of time before Animal Crossing: New Horizons will see a Legend of Zelda update.

She Has A Twin Brother
For individuals who are die-hard Animal Crossing fans, you probably already know this. However, for casual fans, this may come as a surprise. Isabelle is actually a twin. She has a brother named Digby. He also made his debut in New Leaf and managed the Happy Home Showcase. He doesn’t have the flair that Isabelle has, but the resemblance is definitely there.
She Can Sell Out An Amiibo Set
Amiibos haven’t always been the most popular Nintendo product. But, this changed for a short time in 2019. In honor of the release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Nintendo released a few new Amiibos.
The star of the show was Isabelle. Her Amiibo almost sold out instantaneously at Best Buy and on Amazon. This event speaks to the enormous popularity of Isabelle’s character. Her sweet and easygoing nature won over gamers of all ages. In her own right, she has become the star of the Animal Crossing series.

How To Unlock The Campground
The Campground is an area you can create that will allow you to receive visiting villagers on your island, where you can then begin to convince them to stay and live in your town or you can simply talk and trade with them.
To build the Campground, you must have first upgraded the Resident Services Tent into a proper building . Once completed, Tom Nook will have an assignment to increase your towns popularity to catch a certain someones attention. The first step towards this, will be building a Campground.
You will need to build the Campground Construction Kit, which requires 15 of each type of wood, as well as 15 Iron Nuggets, and then place the kit down in an area youd like to designate as a campground.
The next day, a random villager will likely appear in the Campground . Whichever villager, you will have no choice but to invite them into your town. After that, villagers may appear at the Campground at any time, but can also be summoned using Amiibo Cards at the Resident Services Terminal.
