Animal Crossing: New Horizons & The Chaotic Things To Do To Friends

11 Things You Should Do Everyday In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Reading Time: 3 minutesAnimal Crossing: New Horizons is out now and has taken the world by storm. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons you have the option to not only visit random mystery islands but the islands of your friends. Needless to say, here are the five most chaotic things to do at your friends islands.

While on your friends island, after becoming their best friend, you can take our your shovel. Are you playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons and if so, what are you doing while visiting your friends islands? .

How To Invite New Villagers In Animal Crossing New Horizons

Now that you’ve set aside some land for housing on your island in New Horizons, it’s time to invite some new villagers.

You can choose not to interfere and, if you do so, the plot of land will eventually be brought by a randomly selected villager after a couple of days. You can discover who brought the plot of land by reading the sold sign.

If you’d rather exercise some control over who moves onto your island, then there are three ways, which don’t involve amiibo cards, to invite villagers to your island in New Horizons:

Inviting villagers from Mystery Islands

If you have a free plot of land on your island, then a randomly selected villager will appear on any Mystery Island you visit. They will continue to appear, until this plot is sold and, if you have no land for sale, then every Mystery Island you visit will be uninhabited.

To go on a Mystery Island tour, you must first purchase a Nook Miles Ticket, which costs 2,000 Nook Miles, from the Nook Step in Residential Services. Take this ticket to the airport and you’ll be flown to a randomly selected island, which will contain one villager if you have a plot of land for sale.

If you like the villager inhabiting the Mystery Island, then start talking to them. Eventually you’ll be given the option to encourage or discourage them from moving to your island. If you really don’t want that villager moving to your home at all, then we suggest ignoring them entirely.

Make And Use Fish Bait

As you go for long, peaceful walks on the beach, you might notice little jets of water spraying up from the sand. When you see them, get out your shovel and dig! Manila clams are hiding under the sand, and you can craft them into fish bait. When you’re angling for rare fish, you can use that bait to give yourself better odds, luring in more fish in specific spots like mountain streams and at the end of the pier.

How To Get Your First Three New Villagers In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing: 15 Anime Designs You Need To See

In previous Animal Crossing games, villagers would simply move into your town and set up a house. New Horizons, however, has changed this system to make it more in keeping with the deserted island theme of the game.

When you first arrive on your island, you’ll be accompanied by two villagers and, as you slowly progress through the game, you’ll be able to invite more villagers to your island.

The maximum number of villagers you can have living on your island is 10.

The first time you’ll be able to invite new villagers to your island will be after Nook’s Cranny opens. Tom Nook will give you three housing kits to place around the island.

Once you’ve decided where to place these kits, you’ll next have to build three pieces of interior furniture and three pieces of exterior furniture for the villager whose house this will be.

After crafting this furniture, your new villagers will settle on your island one day after the other. This means that if you build all the furniture in one day, then it will take three days for each villager to arrive.

This is the only time you’re required to build furniture to make villagers move to your island. Instead, you simply have to set aside a plot of land for them to live on.

Setting aside a plot of land for a new villager will cost you 10,000 bells.

You’ll also be rewarded with some Nook Miles once they move in.

Play The Stalk Market

Playing the Stalk Market is a pretty reliable way to increase your weekly revenue. You can buy turnips on Sundays from Daisy Mae for prices that usually hover around 100 bells. For the rest of the week, you can check in the morning and the afternoon at the Nook’s Cranny store to see the rates for turnips. The goal is to buy low and sell high.

A few important notes: Turnips rot after a week, so you can’t just hoard them waiting for a giant payday. They also rot if you travel back in time. And checking prices twice a day takes time, so you probably don’t want to start investing in turnips until the time is worth the payoff. I don’t invest unless I have at least 50,000 bells. Then, even a small rise in prices can lead to a significant return. If you want to get intense about it, you can even check out websites that fans have built to calculate the trajectory of the Stalk Market across the week.

How Many Villagers Are In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Nintendo has created 393 recruitable villagers for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This doesn’t include special villagers like Tom Nook, Kicks, Celeste, or Redd. It’s possible that even more villagers could be created for the game as time goes on. As it stands, these 393 prospective neighbors are made up of 35 different animal species and eight different personality types.

Take Advantage Of Special Visitors

Within the first few days of your island adventure, you’ll likely come across a unique visitor — such as Gulliver, the sea gull asleep on the beach, or Wisp, the easily frightened ghost. Each of these visitors will teach you something, sell you something or send you on a short mission. These missions will earn you unique item rewards.

My personal favorite visitor so far is C.J., a beaver-blogger who loves to fish. He’ll ask you to catch special fish for him, order fish decorations for you , and pay you extra for any fish you sell him. In a single day with C.J., I ordered a handful of fish decorations to hang on my walls and made nearly 60,000 bells just angling as usual. It was a good day.

Some Dogs Go To Heaven

So what are we to make of the notion of the soul in the Animal Crossing universe, or at least how the characters regard it? One clue lies within the seasonal holidays in the game, which include religious celebrations like Christmas. We can assume, then, that God exists in this world or at least, that many animals acknowledge a higher being and practice some form of Christianity. Whether Jesus and his disciples were human in this alternate universe, or a colorful assortment of woodland creatures, I will leave to the imagination of the reader. But one can reasonably assume that this iteration of Christian faith regards anthropomorphic animals as fully fledged members of humanity with souls and access to the afterlife, and that the lesser animals of Animal Crossing are necessarily excluded from spiritual personhood and the promise of eternal life.

But wait! The rabbit hole goes even deeper!

Most Animal Crossing games include dancing clay figurines called gyroids, which appear to be sentient but are classified as furniture items. The exception to this is Lloid, the only gyroid who speaks and has a name. Lloid appears variously as a gardening assistant, a construction foreman, and the proprietor of an auction house, where you can buy and sell other gyroids. Whether this makes Lloid a traitor to his kind is unclear.

Look Out For Fake Art

Animal Crossing introduced Redd, the art-dealing fox with whom fans of the series may already be familiar, a few months after the game launched. Redd sells paintings you can hang in the new wing of your museum, but he also tries to offload knock-offs on unwitting players. When you ask to inspect a painting before buying it, check it against guides like this one to see if you should lay down the money or keep your bells in your pocket.;

Alternatively, if you don’t want a straightforward cheat-sheet for identifying fakes, you can use , then make your own attempt to find discrepancies.

We Need To Talk About Stitches

Several characters in Animal Crossing pose disturbing existential questions by their mere presence, particularly Hopkins, who appears to be an inflatable toy rabbit. There have been numerous debates among Animal Crossing fans about whether or not Hopkins, who has a blow-up nozzle on the back of his head, is real. It would seem that the fleshier animals in the game have similar concerns and an innate, borderline prejudiced distrust of counterfeit animals. Although he is seemingly afforded the same rights to life and liberty as the others, the character profile for Hopkins includes a sinister warning: Just a heads-up: Hopkins is not to be trusted. Hes always full of hot air.

But most disturbing of all is Stitches, a teddy bear whose body has been Frankensteined together from seemingly haphazard scraps of fabric or, possibly, the bodies of other bears. This alarming animal Pinocchio has Xs instead of eyes, and seems to be a spirit of some kind, trapped in the body of a nightmare doll that looks like its about to pull out a knife and demand that you play with him forever. He also reflexively refers to you as stuffin, which sounds like a threat in a way that I do not wish to investigate.

Travel Back In Time Before You Move Forward

10 Weirdest items You Can Own in Animal Crossing Games ...

Time travel is a major topic of conversation in the Animal Crossing community, and it’s a controversial one. Since the game takes place in real time, you actually have to wait a realday for buildings to get built and plants to grow. And Animal Crossing: New Horizons starts slow. So if you suspect you’ll want a quicker start, consider setting your Nintendo Switch’s clock back 7 to 10 days. That way, as you play, you can bump it up a day every few hours to cover some of the early, slower-developing portions of the game more quickly.

How To Remove Villagers And Make Them Leave In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Maybe you’ve had enough of their personality or maybe you just don’t like their face , either way, at some point a villager you don’t like might move onto your island.

It’s important to note that discussing a resident with Isabelle in Residential Services does not work towards evicting a villager. Instead, this simply allows you to reset a villagers catchphrase or clothing if you no longer like what they’re wearing or saying. Ignoring villagers and hitting them with a net also won’t encourage them to leave.

Getting rid of villagers in New Horizons is a tricky process that mostly revolves around chance and waiting for villagers to decide that they want to leave. We do, however, have a couple tips that will help you control your island’s population.

Look for villagers with thought bubbles above their heads

At some point you’ll find one of your villagers walking around with a puzzled expression on their face and a thought bubble floating above their head.

If you talk to them, there’s a chance they’ll explain that they’re considering moving. During this conversation, you’ll have the chance to encourage them to either leave or stay.

If you tell them to stay, then they’ll continue living on your island as if nothing has ever happened. Telling them to leave, however, will cause them to pack up their house the next day, followed by them leaving their island and creating an empty plot of land.

Don’t Miss: How To See Shooting Stars In Animal Crossing

Keep Your Eye On The Sky

At night, shooting stars will occasionally flash across the sky. If you look up and catch sight of one, you can press the A button to wish upon it. Wishing on stars makes star fragments wash onto the beach the following day, which can help you craft unique items, like wands.

Pay attention to morning announcements, because Isabelle will occasionally mention nighttime meteor showers, which are the perfect time to scoop up a dozen stars or more. Shooting stars seem to move in packs, too, so if you see one in the sky, keep looking up for a few seconds — you might get another handful of free wishes. Finally, depending on when you wish on stars, you might get unique Zodiac fragments. Only time will tell if these fragments combine to create special items, but I can tell you that’s what I’m wishing for with each shooting star.

Villagers And Other Characters

20 Things Animal Crossing: New Horizons Doesn’t Tell You

Animal Crossing: New Horizons features many returning villagers and a few new villagers that can move onto your island – either temporarily or to create a home to live in. There are also many returning characters that act as merchants or provide special features.

The complete villager list below incorporates all known villagers and characters that appear in ACNH. These villagers come from multiple types of personalities and different kinds of animals. Each island town can have up to 10 different kinds of villagers who will make their home there, and you will begin your deserted island adventure with two villagers – see the full list of possible starting villagers here.

Villagers can come in several different personality types. They include: Jocks, Uchi , Normal, Peppy, Lazy, Snooty, Cranky, and Smug. Certain types of villagers will always show up on your island – as you will always start the game with a Jock and Uchi villager alongside you.

Unlike other Animal Crossing games, certain villager features are entirely new: The first two villagers on your island will build up their own houses from tents, while the next three villagers must have some of their items furnished before they move in. After this, you will be able to sell plots of land for new villagers to set up a house, or invite them to stay while encountered at a Mystery Island or the Campsite.
