Animal Crossing New Horizons: How To Use The Sanrio Amiibo Cards
It’s time to meet some adorable new friends!
The wait is finally over! The Animal Crossing Sanrio Collaboration Pack of amiibo cards is now available at Target, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons players can now invite six new Sanrio-themed villagers to live on their islands!
Heres everything you need to know about using these amiibo cards !
When youre ready to invite one of these new villagers to your island, head into the Resident Services building and interact with the Nook Stop terminal.
Select Invite amiibo camper, and then choose Yes, I do! to begin the scanning process.
Follow the on-screen instructions to scan the amiibo card with your Switch, Switch Lite, or Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, if youre using one.
Once you scan one of these new amiibo cards, New Horizons will ask you if you want to invite the villager to your campsite.
Heres something important you should know about these amiibo cards: If all you care about is unlocking the Sanrio-themed decorations and items in New Horizons, you dont have to invite the character to your campsite. Simply scanning the amiibo card will cause the characters associated items to show up in the Nook Shopping catalog. For instance, scanning Rillas amiibo card will unlock the Hello Kitty-themed items for you to purchase, and so on. Check out our list of all of the Sanrio-themed items you can unlock using these amiibo cards!
If you do want to invite the character to your campsite, select Yes.
The Amiibo Figures Vs The Amiibo Cards
There are over 400 Animal Crossing amiibo that you can use if you count the 18 NFC figures and the hundreds of Animal Crossing amiibo cards. Both the figures and the cards feature NFC chips and get scanned the same way using your Nintendo Switch. However, in New Horizons, the amiibo cards are more useful since they allow you to invite new villagers to your island. The amiibo figures are fun to collect, but they can only be used to invite the unique characters they depict to photoshoot sessions while youre on Harveys Island.
If you have your heart set on inviting a specific villager to your island, you might want to scour eBay for a particular Animal Crossing amiibo card as many sellers will let you buy them individually. But be warned. Some of the more popular villagers amiibo cards are incredibly pricey.

What Can You Do With Amiiboin Happy Home Paradise
So what exactly can you do with amiibo in Happy Home Paradise?
Firstly, you can use the amiibo scanner to contact different villagers and offer to create a new vacation home for them. Any villagers can be invited as soon as you unlock the Amiibo Scanner, whereas special NPCs are considered as ‘VIP clients’, which you will be able to design vacation homes for once you progress further.
The other thing you can do with amiibo is to summon them to vacation homes so that you can create better photos for your portfolio, much like how you can summon amiibo for Photopia.
When at a vacation home, press the down arrow to open the screen that allows you to move the resident around. The amiibo logo will appear in the bottom left of the screen, showing you that you can use amiibo cards and figures to summon both villagers or special NPCs. This only becomes available once you have unlocked the Amiibo Scanner.
You can then summon and move these characters around in the same way you would for the vacation homeowner, positioning them for the perfect photo for your portfolio.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons Campsite And Amiibo Visitors
The second type of Animal Crossing: New Horizons amiibo functionality comes through the campsite, which you’ll add to your island by talking to Tom Nook once the Resident Services upgrades from a tent to a building. Once it’s built, you can invite villagers to visit the campsite using your amiibo and amiibo cards. The same restrictions apply – you can’t invite characters like Resetti or Digby, and even Isabelle won’t turn up at the campsite – but you can ask any villager to pay you a visit. This is where amiibo cards come in particularly handy.
Once a character has arrived at your campsite, you can head over and talk to them. They will usually ask you to craft a souvenir for them to take back home with you, but doing this gets you closer to unlocking the option to ask them to move to your island permanently. You will have to invite them to the campsite several times before they consider making the move – and you can only invite one character to the campsite per calendar day – but it’s worth pursuing if there’s a particular character you want on your island.
This is currently the only way to cherry-pick the characters that move to your island. Otherwise Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers will arrive at random to the campsite, or will lurk on the islands you can visit using Nook Miles Tickets.

Harvs Island And The Amiibo Photoshoots
The first way you can utilise your Animal Crossing amiibo collection with New Horizons is through a dog character known as Harvey or Harv to his friends, of which there are few. Youll find him loitering around the Resident Services tent in the early days of island life. Youll recognise him because hes dressed like a hippy. He tells you that you can visit his island handily named Harvs Island whenever you want. Just head over to the airport and you can ask to visit Harvs Island.
Its here that you discover Harvs Island is actually called Photopia, and Harv is actually a photographer and has a photography studio here on the island. Head inside the building and you can use your amiibo and amiibo cards to summon rather strange zombie-like versions of characters to pose for photoshoots.
Its quite limited, but if you want to have a little fun with old favourites, its easy to do and travelling to and from Harvs Island is free it wont cost bells or Nook Miles. Plus, from the next calendar day, youll unlock a purchasable poster version of anyone you invite to Photopiain in the Special Goods section of Nook Shopping from the Nook Stop terminal, which you can then hang on the wall of your home.

Here’s What Amiibo Unlock In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
As of now there are two rewards for scanning your amiibo collection in New Horizons. The most exciting reason to take advantage of the feature is that it allows you to bring new villagers to your island. You’ll first have to build a campground, then go through the process of scanning the amiibo at Resident Services. This will send the associated character to your newly built campground.
Of course, that doesnt mean they will stay on your island, but you can at least bring up the proposition. If they like what you’ve done with the place, they might be inclined to make it their home.
Amiibo can also be used with Photopia a unique feature that lets you take staged photos with different villagers. By scanning in your collection, these characters will be available for use with Photopia. You can give them different props to hold, tell them how to act, and even give them costumes to wear.
It’s possible that amiibo outside of the Animal Crossing world will work with this feature, but nothing has been confirmed by Nintendo. If you’ve built up an extensive amiibo collection over the years be sure to test them all out you never know what you’ll find.

How To Use Amiibo To Invite New Villagers To Move In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
The most enticing Animal Crossing amiibo functionality is to invite your favorite villagers to live on your island! With a few steps, you can have any non-special character move in, with some added benefits included compared to normal means.
The process is as follows:
- Head to Resident Services, and pay a visit to the Nook Stop Terminal
- Choose Invite Camper and tap your villagers amiibo card as instructed
- Head to the Campsite, say hello to your guest, and talk with them until they ask you for a favor to give them a DIY furniture item.
- Once delivered, they may mention potentially moving to your island! Sadly, for now, youll have to wait.
- Repeat the above process for three days after the third visit and present, theyll be set to move in!
While being able to pick and choose your villagers is a dream come true for some, its a long process without time travel. It does have one other, excellent benefit though. Unlike campers that come by randomly, if you ask an amiibo camper to move in you can choose who will leave your island. For those after total control of their denizens, or who just cant stand someones look clashing with their theme, this is an incredible bonus!

Connect The Amiibo Card
Have your amiibo card ready in your hand and choose the Invite Camper option at the kiosk in Resident Services. Read through the prompts and select Continue when you are ready.
When prompted, hold the amiibo card slightly above your right joy-con controller. This takes only a matter of seconds to register with the Nintendo Switch.
The kiosk will then verify the amiibo card villagers name and ask you once again if youd like to invite the villager to your islands campsite. Select Yes! to continue. Your screen will flash white, and the amiibo card character will appear on your screen. This is where you can choose to invite them to your campsite.
Once theyve accepted their invitation, the amiibo character will immediately appear at your islands campsite, unless theres already a visitor present. If a random visitor is already present at the campsite, then the amiibo character will appear at your campsite the next day.
