Give Five Bugs And Fish To Tom Nook Asap
The museum running Blathers will pay for bugs and fish to fill his exhibits but won’t show up unless you summon him via Tom Nook. When Nook gives you the recipes for the net and fishing rod, he’ll nonchalantly say “I would love to see anything you manage to catch. I’m quite curious about the local fauna.” Now, don’t dismiss this as just a little enthusiasm for your fishing abilities, if you go and talk to him after you catch a fish or bug with your new tools, you’ll notice a prompt that says “I found a creature!” If you give him five creatures, he’ll suddenly get a phone call from his old pal Blathers. The next day, Blathers will appear in his little makeshift museum tent, and if you keep donating, you’ll eventually unlock the Animal Crossing: New Horizons museum proper.
Use A Stone Ax Not An Iron One
If we’ve learned anything over the past few millennia, it’s that iron cuts down trees better than stone does, right? Well, in Animal Crossing, you might not actually want to cut down your trees; you might just want wood, soft wood or hard wood for crafting. Luckily, the stone ax extracts those types of wood without chopping down the tree.
How To Give Kudos To Players In Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp
While you can always play Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp in relative solitude from other players, theres something about visiting other peoples campsites and commending them for their work that just adds to the community feel of the title. You can give a player Kudos to show your appreciation of their campsite, or if you just think theyre a cool guy or gal.
To do this in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, youll first need to see their character in person. This can be done by either visiting their campsite or them visiting yours. Once youre at the same campsite, simply make your way over to them and tap on their character. Youll then be given the option to Give Kudos to Player. Do this, and the game will show their character glowing a little in appreciation of your kind words.
Chances are if youre jumping into Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp on launch day, youll need to do this to complete one of the current stretch goals. Simply head to the Goals screen once youve given Kudos to a player to receive your reward.

Fruit Gives You Superpowers
If you eat fruit, you’ll notice a counter in the upper-left corner of the screen. This indicator shows how many pieces of fruit you’ve eaten , and for each one, you can perform a super feat, such as breaking a stone or digging up a full tree. Digging up trees helps make groves easy to pick, and when you visit other islands, it helps transplant new fruit trees without having to wait for them to regrow. All that said, DO NOT BREAK ROCKS! Aim To Get The Inventory Upgrade Asap Using Nook Miles
There are a lot of useful things you can exchange your Nook Miles for, but the one we suggest aiming for first is the inventory upgrade. Check the ‘Redeem Nook Miles’ section of the Nook Stop terminal in Residents’ Services for something listed as the ‘Pocket Organization Guide’, which you can get for 5,000 Nook Miles. This will add another rung of inventory slots to your pocket capacity, which is a huge boon for everyday island life.;
There’s another upgrade available much later, called ‘Ultimate Pocket Stuffing’ for 8,000 Miles, which will upgrade your inventory slots to four rows. That’s also an absolute;

Look Out For Balloons And Bottles To Get Free Stuff
There are two regular items that will arrive on your island that you should look out for. Once or twice a day you can find little bottles that wash up on the beach. These will always contain a letter from a random source, and a crafting recipe. They’re random, so there’s no way to know what kind of recipe you’ll get, but if you already have the recipe in your list, you can always sell it for a few Bells or gift it to another islander.;
Another great source of new items, recipes and often Bells, is the little presents that will float through the sky attached to balloons. You’ll know there’s one in the vicinity because you’ll hear a very clear whooshing wind sound. Push up on the right joystick until you can see the skyline, and give it a scan for a floating balloon, or look on the ground for a moving shadow. You’ll need the slingshot to shoot it down – the recipe for which is available at Nook’s Cranny or from Tommy in Residents’ Services – but when you do there’s a present in it for you. Just watch that there’s no danger of it falling in the river – although there’s a Nook Mile Reward for doing just that.;

The Perspective Of Animal Crossing Defies Science
The art style found in the;Animal Crossing series is fairly unique, and does well to make the player feel both comforted and relaxed. The characters are chibi in nature,;your animal friends are cute, and the world itself is really pretty to look at.
It’s a darn shame, then, that;Animal Crossing had to go with that weird scrolling horizon mechanic. Quite honestly, it takes you out of the experience a bit. It also doesn’t make any sense from a scientific perspective.
In the image above, for example, you can see trees disappearing over the horizon mere meters from where the characters are standing. That dramatic a curvature would mean the world;Animal Crossing takes place in is extremely small. But you know that’s not the case! There are other locations. In the upcoming;Animal Crossing:;New Horizons, your friends live on other islands. Where do they fit?
This technique really falls apart when you realize it’s not used when moving left or right. By;Animal Crossing‘s calculation, the world is not a sphere but, instead, some kind of strange cylinder; a giant rolling pin out in space. There are hordes of people who believe the Earth is flat already, Nintendo. Don’t make the “Animal;Crossing theory”;a thing.

Dont Put Off The Quests
Above: And dont forget to talk to Tom Nook about celebrations.
Image Credit: GamesBeat
In the first few weeks of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Tom Nook will guide you through some light quests. These include paying off your moving fees, crafting furniture for new villagers, and improving your town. These are easy to ignore, but you shouldnt.
While you might want to spend all your time decorating your house or designing clothing, youll miss out on some features if you dont go through the quests. These are important, game-changing features like the ability to create paths and roads.
You Are Tom Nook’s Indentured Servant
Since day one, players have seen through Tom Nook’s adorable facade and called him out on what he really is:;a greedy capitalist who views you as nothing more than a source of labor. When you first set foot into;Animal Crossing‘s universe, it’s Tom Nook who conveniently shows up with a home in exchange for working at his store. If you manage to get out from under your mortgage, Tom Nook ensures you’re never really free by expanding said home without your permission.
And think about what you’ll be doing in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Tom Nook is offering you a vacation package to a deserted island, where you and your animal friends will camp at first, but eventually build a functioning town with modern amenities. That new town will be built on the backs of those who are supposed to be on vacation. And Tom Nook? Tom Nook will reap most of the benefits. Tom Nook will be making money on his vacation package, and by selling you everything you need to transform your new home into something more habitable.
And you? You’ll be working hard to make it all possible, none the wiser that Tom Nook has duped you for probably the sixth or seventh time.

Choose Your Island Layout & Hemisphere
One of the first things youre going to have to do in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is choose the layout of your island.
Timmy and Tommy will give you four different layouts to choose from. Things like the river and building positions will vary between each of the four. Theres no right or wrong choice here, though, so just pick whichever one youre happiest with.
After that, youll need to select what hemisphere your island is in. The north hemisphere will mean your island has more traditional seasons, so sunny hot summers and cold winters. Choosing the southern hemisphere will switch that so youll be having a toasty Christmas on the beach, just like Australia.
Again, this is a personal preference, but as someone who lives in the north hemisphere, I cant imagine having a Christmas without snow!
Remember That When And Where Matters For Everything
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a real-time calendar game. And thats not just a cute trick it has an impact on everything you do. For example, the fish you can catch in March are different from the fish you can catch in August. And some critters are more active in the morning than they are at night.
But its not just about time. Also think about where youre spending your time on your island. Dont just always go to the river to fish. You can catch different kinds of fish in the isolate ponds or in the ocean.
So dont fall into a routine. Throw some variety into your New Horizons life.

Finish Your Fossil Collection
Don’t abandon Blathers! Keep looking for those fossils.;Five fossil dig spots will appear on the island every day, even after K.K. Slider plays, and others can also be found by traveling to mystery islands using Nook Miles Tickets.
If players want to get really efficient, they can organize fossil swaps on their island where people can drop off fossils they have multiple of and pick up fossils they need. That’s a faster way to finish the collection.
Quickly Pay Off Your Tent
Animal Crossing: New Horizons gives you a camping tent to start, instead of your typical house. As part of Nook Inc.s Deserted Island Getaway Package, it isnt something you need to pay off with the series usual currency . Instead, Tom Nook lets you pay off the trip with Nook Miles, achievement-like goals that steadily reward you for fishing, catching bugs, pulling weeds, and the other typical Animal Crossing activities. Rack up those miles as soon as Tom Nook shows you how, so you can pay off the package.
Paying off your tent gives you the opportunity to buy a house and unlock several other upgrades, including turning the Resident Services tent into a full-fledged shop.

Keep An Eye On Your Nook Miles Rewards
Along with the traditional Bells, there’s a new currency in the game known as Nook Miles. Tucked away inside your Nook Phone is a handy app that lets you track your progress towards the next Nook Miles Rewards Milestone. Miles can be exchanged for rewards, recipes, furniture and more via the Nook Stop terminal found in Residents’ Services.
Initially, you’ll basically haemorrhage Miles because you practically get rewarded for doing anything – you can see all the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nook Mile Rewards we’ve discovered and unlocked in our guide – and we’re talking catching bugs, planting flowers, selling fruit or seashells, increasing the number of furniture items you have placed, taking snapshots, editing your profile, placing furniture outside, editing the bulletin board and more.;
It’s worth keeping an eye on your progress within each task though, as if you need more Miles, it might just be a case of planting a few more flowers or something to hit the next Milestone.;
And when you unlock Nook Miles+ after paying off your initial moving fees, that’s even more the case.
Plant Plenty Of Fruit
Fruit trees are a great way to get income early in the game, and once you get a shovel, planting a pear or apple tree is easy and pays off quickly. Another semisecret form of income: money trees!;
Around the island, golden beams occasionally shine up from the ground. Dig them up and you’ll find a bag of bells . Instead of pocketing the bells and covering the hole, you can plant the bag to grow a money tree. In fact, if you select the bells in your inventory and portion out a bag of 10,000, you can grow a tree that drops bags of 10,000 bells when it grows up. If you do this once per day, you should maintain a consistent income of 20,000 bells per day, between planting and harvesting your money bags.

Use A Stone Axe Or Shovel For A Chance To Get Iron Nuggets From Rocks
You’ll start gaining crafting recipes for better tools rather quickly, but to create them you’ll need better materials – namely, iron nuggets. Soon, Animal Crossing: New Horizons iron nuggets will become one of your most-needed materials, and to find them you’ll need to hit rocks. Use your stone axe, or a shovel on any rocks you see on your island – the small light grey kind, not the larger, darker grey versions that are just part of the coastal scenery – and you’ll find a variety of materials will start popping out – stone, clay, iron nuggets, and sometimes money or even bugs. Getting iron nuggets will be slow at first, so if you want to amass a few more, save up Nook Miles to buy Nook Mile Tickets that allow you to visit remote islands, which are a paradise for resources – usually netting you at least four iron nuggets per trip.
Instantly Jump To Redeemable Nook Miles
At first glance, Nook Miles seem to replace Bells as the de facto currency as far as New Horizons is concerned. While this does not end up being the case, with Bells more or less adopting their typical role within a few short hours, this doesnt mean the Nook Miles system doesnt see a lot of play.;
