25 Things To Do Every Day in Animal Crossing: New Horizons | My Daily Routine

Welcome to IGNs Animal Crossing: New Horizons guide! Whether its your first Animal Crossing game or youre a longtime fan of the series, this guide will list what you should know when getting started in ACNH, including things you cant change after you make your island, how to reroll your island and villagers and things to do each day.

If youre looking for more advanced guides, we suggest you check out our How to Make Bells Fast page, Ultimate Unlocks guide, and our Time Travel guide.

Manage Your Pockets Inventory Wisely

When you start New Horizons you will just have a few tools available to you, so the number of inventory slots in your “pockets” are ample. However, you will soon find them expanding as your crafting skills improve and, if you do happen to visit other islands, you need to ensure you have enough empty slots for anything new you might find.

Luckily, items dropped around your own island will remain there indefinitely, so you can always pick them up later – on a different day even.

Once you progress from a tent to a house, you get storage in your home for anything you don’t want to carry around with you.

From Our New Horizons Wiki

Animal Crossing: New Horizons feels like an entirely fresh game from July for players in the northern hemisphere thanks to the addition of swimming and a brand new vendor . You can also find plenty of new things at the bottom of the ocean, which includes scallops.

Scallops can only be found out in the ocean by diving down and scooping up the black shadow. Scallops are semi-rare. We found three in total out of roughly thirty sea creatures while diving, so they do not appear that often.

Likewise, you can donate a scallop to Pascal, but he also does not appear that often. You can donate one scallop to Pascal per day and get a DIY recipe in return, but he may not appear until the second, third, or fourth scallop is found.

Pascal will give you various DIY recipes when you keep giving him his daily scallop, all of them requiring pearls to craft. Pearls are the rarest sea creatures we have encountered to date, so you may want to stockpile them rather than sell them.

If you collect more than one scallop, dont forget that you can also donate scallops to Blathers at the museum to add to his collection. This works in the same way as every other donation in New Horizons, but you will have a special blue option the first time you go to donate a sea creature.

As well as this, you can also sell a scallop to Nooks Cranny for a fairly decent 1200 Bells, which will go some way towards paying off the wetsuit you bought to start swimming.

Diy Crafting And Catching Critters

  • Goals for the Day:
  • Take the DIY Workshop Class
  • Construct a net and fishing rod
  • Catch fish and bugs and show them to Tom Nook
  • Get the Axe and Watering Can Recipe

On your first real day on the island, Tom Nook will already have some tasks for you. First up, your new phone!

With the NookPhone, youll gain access to several apps that essentially allow you to view new info and unlock new activities. Youll only have a few apps at first, but more will be unlocked as you make progress into turning the island from being deserted into a bustling town.

However, the biggest tool youll have is the Nook Miles Program. This app allows you to earn miles as a form of currency opposite the usual money known as Bells.

In fact, youll only be able to pay for your tent and getaway package with 5,000 miles – and its easier to pay off than you might think.

Take a moment to check out your NookPhone and all the apps, and then go meet Tom Nook at Resident Services. Hes running a DIY Workshop, which is your gateway to crafting new tools and furniture thats core to getting things done on the island.

To start with, Tom will give you a recipe to make a Flimsy Fishing Rod, which needs just 5 Tree Branches.

You might even find a few spare Tree Branches in the recycling box, as any structures that are placed over existing materials may sometimes end up here.

Once youve foraged for the branches, return to Nook and use the workbench next to him to successfully craft your fishing rod.

Catch All The Fish And Bugs

Another early tip: Catch every animal you see — which pretty much consists of fish and bugs. Keep an eye on flowers for stinkbugs and mantises, snag butterflies in the groves, and shake trees and rocks to find pill bugs and spiders. Here’s how my colleague caught the elusive stringfish. As soon as you craft your first bug net and fishing pole, start handing over your collected critters to Tom Nook. Sure, you could sell these creatures to Timmy and Tommy, the island’s resident traders, but Tom Nook will send each unique discovery to his friend Blathers the owl, who lives off-island.

Long story short, after enough donations, Blathers the owl will come build a museum on the island and set you on to a much larger collection project, opening up the game considerably.

Dont Pull All The Weeds

Pulling up weeds is likely the first thing any OCD New Horizons player will do. However, Weeds can be useful for crafting, selling and accumulating Nook Miles so you wont want to eradicate them entirely. If you leave a few flowering weeds in place theyll eventually generate more weeds, giving you a constant supply to pick each day.

How To Get & Buy Halloween Candy

Halloween Candy can be purchased from Nooks Cranny throughout the month of October inside the cabinet either at the back left in the original store or towards the right in the upgraded shop. Each piece of Halloween Candy at Nooks Cranny costs 120 Bells.

Notably, you can only purchase one piece of Candy from Nooks Cranny per day on your own island Timmy & Tommy will not sell you more.

However, this limit only applies to your own island. If you travel to another players island in online or local multiplayer, you can purchase another piece of Candy at their shop!

Another option to get additional Candy is creating and using a second player character on your island. Time traveling can be used as well to circumvent the Candy purchase limit if you wish to do so.

Get Candy During Halloween Event On October 31st

In addition to buying Candy in advance from Nooks Cranny, you can obtain plenty more from your villagers after 5PM on October 31st while experiencing the Halloween Night Event with Jack. Its as easy as putting on a costume and visiting villagers inside of their homes.

When you speak to villagers indoors, theyll often give you a free piece of Candy from being so impressed by your costume. This process is quite repeatable as well throughout the night, as long as you wait a few minutes between attempts.

Take Part In Seasonal Events

New Horizons likes to celebrate plenty of holidays throughout the calendar year, whether they’re based on big holidays like Christmas with the island hosting “Toy Day” instead or smaller holidays that celebrate the changing of the season. With so much going on month in and month out, there’s always something new for players to try out and do.

Taking part in seasonal events is a great way to keep island life interesting, as well as adding to your collection of DIY recipes and furnishings since most events incorporate new crafting recipes or items as rewards.

Animal Crossing Tips: Our Guide To Getting Started In New Horizons

What to do in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

The things to think – and not think about – as you settle into island life.

After what feels like an eternity – okay, it’s only been eight years but we’ve been counting every day – a new Animal Crossing is upon us. And as our review explains, it’s a pretty good one too.

Those first few days in Animal Crossing can be a bit bewildering – especially if you’re new to this most eccentric of series – so here’s a few handy Animal Crossing New Horizons tips to help you make the most of your first few days as an islander.

And, once you’re fully settled on the island, check out our list of other guides at the end of this page – which includes various money making opportunities and material sources – and will be expanded upon in the days and weeks after release.

Don’t fret too much about those first big decisions

New Horizons offers a much more flexible take on the Animal Crossing, and many elements are there to be crafted – and re-crafted – by you. So when you’re picking out your first pitch for your home, don’t worry if it’s not perfect – soon enough you’ll be able to relocate .

The same goes with big facilities, which can be relocated by simply talking to Tom Nook at Resident Services. Oh, and you don’t even need to worry about your appearance – you can now change your features, or indeed your gender, at any point after you acquire or build a mirror.

Collect Everything New Resources Appear Daily

One of the initial tasks in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is to pay back a loan for your tent and relocation. This is in Nook Miles – a new form of currency that is effectively awarded to you for every action you perform on the island. Even picking weeds can help fill in the Starbucks reward card style Nook Miles sheets on your NookPhone, so you shouldn’t have trouble earning them.

However, once you have paid back the first loan, you will need to repay a heftier one for your first house . And these later loans will need to be paid back in Bells rather than Nook Miles.

Thankfully, everything on the island has value and Timmy and Tommy Nook are more than happy to give you cold, hard cash for anything you bring to them. Doesn’t matter what it is, they’ll buy it.

The easy way to make cash quickly is note down the items they pay most for and seek those our more often. To be honest though, as they even buy weeds, pears and stuff that replenishes often, you will never find yourself without a means of income.

How To Give Kudos To Players In Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp

While you can always play Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp in relative solitude from other players, theres something about visiting other peoples campsites and commending them for their work that just adds to the community feel of the title. You can give a player Kudos to show your appreciation of their campsite, or if you just think theyre a cool guy or gal.

To do this in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, youll first need to see their character in person. This can be done by either visiting their campsite or them visiting yours. Once youre at the same campsite, simply make your way over to them and tap on their character. Youll then be given the option to Give Kudos to Player. Do this, and the game will show their character glowing a little in appreciation of your kind words.

Chances are if youre jumping into Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp on launch day, youll need to do this to complete one of the current stretch goals. Simply head to the Goals screen once youve given Kudos to a player to receive your reward.

Farm Out Your Resources From Rocks And Trees

Grab as much wood and Iron Nuggets as you can from trees and rocks, as youll need them to create DIY Recipes. Each tree and rock produces a finite amount of materials per day, and you dont want to find yourself in a situation where youre short on materials to make a new item that you have a recipe for.

Make sure youre hitting the trees with the Stone Axe so that you dont chop down the tree. Also make sure youre hitting the rocks on an empty stomach , or the rock will break and disappear until the next day, without giving you the resources.

Top 5 Things To Do In Animal Crossing: New Horizons When Bored

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is an interesting game to spend time playing alone or with friends. There are loads of things to do in the game that players can max out quickly as it’s so much fun to grind.

Unfortunately, the list of activities in the game is exhaustive, and players might come to a point when they feel bored.

After a point in time, Animal Crossing: New Horizons only has routine tasks remaining, something players aren’t always motivated to do. Therefore, the game definitely becomes stagnant after a while.

Luckily, while the players might exhaust all the primary tasks after a while, there are still a variety of tasks they can do to take the boredom away. From redesigning to exploring mystery islands, there are many activities to do in Animal Crossing: New Horizons when bored.

Happy Home Paradise: What Can Players Do

This expansion puts your villager to work designing ideal homes for Animal Crossing NPCs. They give you the details, and then you make it happen. It’s like if House Hunters and Million Dollar Decorators had a baby, and they were catering to anthropomorphic animals!

Players will meet with each client to get their specific wants and needs, and that’s where the fun begins. Select different islands, seasons, times of day, and build your client’s ideal home. You’ll have control of both the interior and exterior of the home. Furniture and other building materials will be readily available, and you can set to work.

You will be able to use the property like modeling clay to create whatever you desire. Even the lighting and ambient noise can be adjusted. It’s a blank canvas for you to make your client happy.

Store Items For Later

New Horizons houses now come with a handy storage function, for all those pieces of furniture you might want to save for your future kitchen or bathroom project. To store an item simply enter your house, select the item you want to store in your inventory and choose to place it into storage. To get it out of storage, youll need to press right on the d-pad to open your storage menu.

Quick Method For Infinite Bells

11 Things You Should Do Everyday In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

You need two players both with Animal Crossing, one has to have a really strong price for turnips like 500 bells in their game and the other time travels to sunday morning. Now simply buy in the town thats on sunday and go and visit the friends town and sell there and repeat with new money that you just got from the selling the turnips at like 5 times their normal value and you have a quick method of making huge amounts of bell. Have fun being a bellionaire.

WARNING: Time Travel may lead to lost neighbors and an abundance of weeds that will overtake your town. They are NOT easy to get rid of. It can also take the fun out of the game, but thats up to the player.

How To Wake Up Cyrus

Cyrus isnt immediately awake in Animal Crossing New Leaf. But if you want to purchase some custom furniture for your home in your town, youre going to need to wake him up.

To wake up Cyrus in Animal Crossing New Leaf, you firstly need to sell items that accumulate to 100,000 total Bells to Reese. Then, you need to make sure you have 100 total items in your catalog, and finally, it must be at least 7 days since you started this playthrough of New Leaf. Once all the criteria is filled, Cyrus will wake up.

Getting Rich With The Money Rock

Each day in your town one rock contains Bells which you can liberate with a well-placed Shovel strike. The more you hit the rock, the more Bells you get. To maximize the amount of Bells you get, find a rock stand next to it. Dig holes to the rear and either side of your character. Better yet, plant Bushes for a more permanent solution. Either method will trap you alongside the rock, and cancel the push back effect of your shovel strike. This allows you to rapidly hit the rock and make more money. Depending on what kind of tool at the time your shovel will have a different effect.
