What Is The Point Of Animal Crossing

Doing Everything Gets You A Reward

What is The Point of Animal Crossing?

But New Horizons doesnt just rely on a strong start and then guided goals to keep people playing. It also has a wonderful moment-to-moment reward system with the new Nook Miles program.

This is a secondary currency that is separate from bells. You still earn bells by foraging and selling things in the store. Nook Miles, however, are a reward for doing everything else.

Everything you do in New Horizons will contribute to filling up meters in your Nook Miles app on your Nook Phone. Water 10 flowers, and youll earn some Nook Miles. Youll also get some for chopping down trees, fishing, and talking to your neighbors.

These are things that people do in Animal Crossing anyhow. But New Horizons incentivizes players with tangible rewards. because of this, Ive found myself doing things like managing a flower garden. Thats something I would have skipped in previous games, but now I get something out of it. But I also get Nook Miles for fishing, which is something I always love in Animal Crossing.

Eventually, youll unlock daily Nook Miles challenges that come with bonus multipliers. So even as you move past the first two tiers of catching fish and have to wait to get a bonus until you catch 500 or more, youll get a smaller challenge that will reward you for catching five fish before the end of the day.

Nook Miles makes it so you are always working toward something, and that makes everything in the game more enjoyable.

Why Is Animal Crossing So Popular

Another thing that may account for the games sudden popularity is the island customisation. Animal Crossing is a game that also incentivises creativity by allowing players to modify and decorate their island as they see fit. A characteristic that fits perfectly into peoples current need for an emotional refuge.

Animal Crossing Offers Never

The simulation-style game, developed and published by Nintendo, allows players the chance to create their own versions of paradise on a deserted island inhabited solely by animals. Once their customizable character names their island and establishes a small village within, theyre free to build elaborate homes, tend gardens, fish, throw parties, and converse with their always-kind animal neighbors. The graphics are soft and bright, and the concept of the game is simple if you want to catch bugs, you catch bugs. If you want to dig for buried treasure or interesting fossils, you start digging. It doesn’t have an end.

It Gives You Big And Small Goals To Work Toward

New Horizons also has a great system of putting goals in front of the player.

If you ever feel lost or confused about what to do next, you can go ask Tom Nook. Hell point you toward some goal that you can work toward that will unlock more aspects of the game.

Early on, these goals are very simple and manageable. These include crafting your first tools, picking home locations for villagers, and getting enough Nook Miles to pay your moving fees.

They then get progressively more complex and larger scale. Youll have to collect specific materials to craft certain pieces of furniture for some of the new villagers you invite to the island. Or youll have to get a huge set of materials to help Tom Nooks capitalist nephews build their first shop.

In a later quest, youll have to improve the overall look and feel of your town by adding infrastructure and decor. On my island, Ive added some bridges and a ramp up to the higher elevations. I also built a playground on the beach with a jungle gym, slides, and rocking horses. Eventually, Ill improve the appeal of my town enough to attract a very special guest.

What Is The Point Of Animal Crossing City Folk

The heart of Animal Crossing: City Folk is building relationships with the animals in your town as well as with other players. Befriend your animal neighbors by exchanging letters, gifts and favors. Animals can also move from town to town, bringing their memories and stories from their old towns with them.

New Horizons Is A Holiday

The whole premise of Animal Crossing: New Horizons is that youre heading to a deserted island for a holiday. To begin, all you have available to you is a tent, and its up to you to get to know your neighbors and take advantage of the world around you to move up in the world.

New Horizons introduces a few long-awaited features, including a robust crafting system. You can use basic resources like wood to craft items, then use items you have crafted to craft even more items. In previous titles, you could only decorate your house, but New Horizons lets you put furniture and decorative items anywhere on the island.

The game also introduces a new currency, known as Nook Miles, that you earn by completing various tasks around the island. You can use your Nook Miles to buy unique items not available through other means. A deeper social system allows you to influence how other residents behave, including where they should build their homes.

The games other systems have also been expanded. Theres now an option to select between northern and southern hemispheres so that the seasons are correct wherever youre playing. There are new types of weather, an expanded character customization system, and for the first time ever the game is in;full HD.

The game was;supposed to launch in late 2019, but Nintendo delayed it to apply a final layer of polish. In the end, the timing couldnt have been better.

Other Twists On The New Horizons

What is the Point of Animal Crossing? [Animal Crossing New Horizons Gameplay]

While the game has a very familiar look, there are so many new details that are exciting about New Horizons. Who knows what could have been added? A lot, apparently.

In addition to crafting, the NookPhone, and multiplayer, some new gameplay elements are being introduced. From the trailer and gameplay demos, we can tell there’s going to be customization options galore. Items no longer have to be placed inside the home; you can set up a nice bonfire and hammock right outside your house.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons also features northern and southern hemispheres, so no matter where you are, your island experiences similar seasons and weather. While seasons are nothing new to Animal Crossing, players can do new activities and things as the weather changes. What’s more exciting about this update is the variety it brings: weeds, plants, and growth changes. There are hidden Easter eggs in spring and mushrooms in fall. Plus, players need to be more aware of when night falls since there’s no telling what they will see under cover of darkness, including some dangerous bugs or scary ghosts.

How Things Have Changed In New Horizons

Theres no more story in Animal Crossing: New Horizons than in prior entries, but its certainly a more goal oriented game if you want to play that way. As incredible as Ive found the experience to be, Id be lying if I said that it doesnt feel as though Nintendo has come close to straddling the line of too much.

Similar to games like Fortnite or Destiny 2 , AC:NH offers daily objectives to work towards. In return, youll earn a currency called Nook Miles that can be used to visit random islands, purchase items, learn crafting recipes, upgrade your character, and exchange for the games main currency . Some goals offer more of a return than others and theres a whole host of milestone based objectives that function as achievements .

The end result is a grind that never quite ends. But where the game really moves against the more open air nature of past installments is in the increased level of personalization via crafting. Isolated, the introduction of DIY recipes, gathering materials, and terraforming arent problems in and of themselves, but they do have the potential to make the game a more stressful experience if you let it.

Despite the potential for stress, its a game that still encapsulates a cathartic sigh and mellows me out with its thought out pointlessness.

“Via those two means of currency you can grow and prosper and sell and work your way into every Animal Crossing citizen’s dream: your own house,” Wang says.

As the game goes on and your island improves, you’re faced with certain choices: Should you sell your valuable Koi fish? Or, donate it to Blathers and his museum?

You could also consider paying off the mortgage on your island.

The Fun Never Stops In Animal Crossing: New Horizons It’s A Problem

Adventure Time Intro Gets Remade in Animal Crossing: New ...

Animal Crossing: New Horizons sold 13 million copies in just six weeks.;

A notification sets my phone screen alight as I brush my teeth. A wave of panic brushes over me. The cause for concern isn’t the notification, or my molars, but the time. It’s 11:56 p.m. Panic turns to somber resignation. “Damn, Daniel,” I tell myself. “You forgot to water the plants.”

Not actual plants, virtual plants. In my Animal Crossing island. I’m trying to get my island star rating up, and spent hours earlier in the week organizing miscellaneous monuments, lining beaches with tropical coconut trees, and decorating the highlands with shrubbery and flowers.;

Entertain your brain with the coolest news from space to superheroes, memes to robots.

The shrubbery and trees are easy. Give them enough space and they’ll grow just fine. But the flowers? It’s the flowers that get you. You’ll need to water those bad boys every day if you want them to grow. Think you’re getting even a 4-star island without populating it with dozens of floral friends? Fuhgeddaboudit.

Even if you don’t play Animal Crossing, you’ve probably heard a lot about it. The Nintendo Switch game sold over 13 million copies in just six weeks, making it more popular than even Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee, and has even given the 2017 Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp iOS and Android game a second life. It’s a cartoonish life simulator that puts you on a deserted island and tasks you with turning it into a paradise.;

For me, Wild World was my first Animal Crossing and will likely always be my ‘favourite’. After devouring that game on DS, the idea of being tied down to a television seemed absurd. From my point of view, Animal Crossing was something you squeezed into your daily routine whenever and wherever you could, no matter what. You could be sitting on the bus or the train or the toilet and it wasn’t a problem – on a portable system you always had time pop into your village, check turnip prices and make sure your favourite residents weren’t packing their bags.

So, this is the first Animal Crossing I’ve played on big TV screen and every time I fire it up I’m still amazed at just how pretty it looks. PS5 and Xbox Series X won’t be losing any sleep, of course, but the lighting and attention to detail in New Horizons make it a pleasure to throw on the telly. Perhaps that’s a factor in why I’ve played it every day since launch – even at the expense of other games I’m itching to spend some real time with .

Much has been made of the fortuitous timing of New Horizons’ release, and it’s been a great help personally getting through this lockdown. Where pre-COVID-19 I might have gone for stroll of an evening to get some much-needed fresh air away from a computer monitor, I’ve found myself wandering around my island, idly catching bugs, fishing or arranging flower beds as a way to decompress at the end of the day.

Is Animal Crossing Worth It Without Friends

Its absolutely fine without Multiplayer, you arent really missing anything. I have 2 friends who I sometimes exchange presents with and acquiring different fruit is obviously is easier but in terms of gameplay it doesnt actually add anything other than seeing how other people are doing with their island.

The Progression System Feels Great

What is the Point of Gold Tools in Animal Crossing New Horizons? (Plus EXACTLY How Durable Are They)

Even though New Horizons gives players more to do on the first day and beyond, it still holds so much back. In previous games, you had less to do from the start and fewer major goals to work toward. New Horizons is the opposite in both respects.

Instead of waiting to get a fishing rod or other tools, New Horizons makes you wait to unlock other parts of the island. This gives you more space to build, and it even unlocks mechanics like digging for fossils.

But New Horizons even has a progression system that makes the game more playable. For example, you start out with the option of only donate one critter at a time to the museum. But if you help entice Blathers, the owl who runs the museum, and help him build the actual museum building, you can donate multiple specimen at a time.

Players can also redeem Nook Miles to unlock user-experience features. Theres a quick-select wheel and a skill to increase the size of your pockets in the Mileage store.

This progression combined with the Nook Miles program, the short- and long-term goals, and the quick start make every session with New Horizons feel eventful and rewarding. The game gets easier over time, but as you get more capable you can take on bigger tasks. Its exquisite design that sets this game above its predecessors.

Why Is Animal Crossing Banned In China

Why is Animal Crossing banned in China? News that Animal Crossing: New Horizons was banned in China first started making the rounds in April of 2020. The reason for the ban all comes down to two main features of the game: the ability to create custom graphics, and the ability to virtually meet up with other players.

Does Animal Crossing Ever End

Whats left to do? Theres really no such thing as completing Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Part of the appeal of the game is that players can potentially put hundreds and thousands of hours into their Switch and still have more to do as the game expands and develops, and they change around their island.
