Collectibility And Supply Issues

Life-to-date number of Amiibo shipped, millions

Upon initial launch, the Amiibo line quickly spiked in popularity, with preorders selling out before the products became available to the public. While Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata stated that Amiibo will be kept in stock, he also explained that some will be “limited-time offers which will cede their positions to new ones once they are sold out”. The rarity of certain Amiibo figurines influenced the prices held by online retailers and auctions, of which most can be seen offering select items at prices above the retail price. In Nintendo’s 3rd Quarter Financial Results Briefing for the Fiscal Year Ending March 2015, Satoru Iwata expressed surprise at such online auctions that offered “premium prices” of sold out Amiibo toys. A number of first-wave Amiibo toys with manufacturing defects were discovered and sold for notably high prices, such as a Samus figurine with cannons on both arms instead of one being sold on eBay for US$2,500, and a defect of Princess Peach with missing legs being sold for US$25,100.

Objectives Of The Game

As an open-ended life simulation, the Animal Crossing series does not have a set objective – as such, after an introductory sequence at the beginning of the games, players are free to do as they like. The only “objective” in the game, if any, is to pay off the mortgage placed upon the player’s house. But, like most things within the game, this is entirely optional, and does not incur any consequences other than having less space to store items. The player may also interact with other characters in the game to build social relationships with each other, positive or negative, with no dramatic consequences. Items can be used to assist the player with gameplay interaction and/or decorative purpose. Customization of the player’s own house and their surroundings can be done to improve their environment.

Prior to New Leaf, the first player moves into a town of a designated name and randomized layout, supported by the help of Tom Nook to settle them to any available house of their choice. Afterwards, Tom Nook begins to introduce the player to paying off house loans, and tells them to pay off his loans at any given pace, all without any backstabbing of any sort. The player can also plant trees and flowers to make their town look appealing. Exploring different areas outside of town is possible too, which grants access to certain aspects of gameplay that are not available on the main island.

What Are The Negatives

Theres undoubtedly a lot to love about Animal Crossing but, as with most games, its not perfect. When first booting up the game, the pacing can feel a little slow. It takes real-life time for things to happen on your childs island and, for the first few days, they might feel like theyve run out of things to do. Not to worry though once theyve gotten over the initial hump, the possibilities are endless.

You can also only create one save game per console, which might cause trouble if you have several children sharing a Switch. Although you can have many different users on the Switch, the game only allows you to create one island across the board and there are no resets. Its a shame, really, as each island layout has different natural resources and fauna to explore, so it might cause friction between siblings who have differing views of what the perfect island paradise looks like.

Holidays & Seasonal Activities

Animal Crossing: New Horizons regularly receives updates that correspond with the seasons or holidays from that time of year. So, for instance, when April rolls around, Zipper T Bunny appears on your island for the Bunny Day event and gives you the task of locating special eggs.

Going along with this seasonal tie-in, the characters, stores, and facilities on your island do different things depending on the time of day or time of the year. You need to pay attention to store hours, or you might find that a store has locked up for the night. Additionally, Flick hosts the Bug Off on specific days of the year while C.J. runs a Fishing Tourney four times a year.

With the fall update, leaves change colors on your island, and players meet Jack the pumpkin-headed specter around Halloween. The following month, players get to celebrate the harvest in November by gathering ingredients for Franklin the Turkey Chef on Thanksgiving.

Lastly, the winter update brings a chill to your island, followed by a blanket of snow. . Players meet Jingle, the Black-nosed reindeer, who asks for help distributing Santa’s toys to your villagers. If you help him out, you’ll be rewarded with festive goodies.

Once youve finished setting up the room the way you want, placing, dressing and setting up reactions for villagers, press the B button to finish. You can then move your character as normal using the joy sticks. If you press ZL to access the Nook Phone, you can take a photo through the normal camera app.

Youll notice there are some new icons on the right hand side of the camera display. ZR lets you do your own reactions . The R button makes everyone look directly into the camera. The A button makes all the characters display the reaction youve set them up to do. Once you have everything set up the way you like, press A, and start taking photos.

You can zoom in and out, rotate or shift the camera around as normal, add filters and frames, and anything else you want to do to create the perfect Photopia photo!

Playing On The Nintendo Switch Lite

Nintendo Switch Lite owners rejoice! You can take part in the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, too. The game is compatible with the handheld-only device, and what’s more, players can still engage in multiplayer fun. Players still need a Nintendo Switch Online membership for online play. Also, if you plan to play locally with your friends, it’s necessary to connect some Joy-Cons or Pro Controllers for the other players as well. It works the same as the Nintendo Switch so, keep in mind that you can’t move it to another once you create an island on one system.

What To Do On Day 2

When you wake up, youll see that your tent has been upgraded to a house. Congrats! Youre well on your way. Head to Tom Nook, who will congratulate you and give you a new mortgage for 98,000 Bells for the next house upgrade. Time to get to work.

Big Goal 1 Donate 15 fish/bugs to Blathers

If you played a lot on Day 1, you were probably able to find 15 different species of bugs and fish . If so, bring them over to Blathers the Owl. Hell give you a recipe for the Flimsy Shovel and the Vaulting Pole, the latter of which you can use to cross over rivers in your town.

Once youve donated 15 species, you wont be able to donate any more, so hold any new species you find after that .

You should also have a letter from Mom, which includes three pieces of fruit that are not native to your town. Use your newly acquired shovel to dig three holes and plant the special fruit. Note that trees will only grow if there is one free space in every direction around it, so make sure the spots you pick are clear.

Speaking of the Flimsy Shovel, keep an eye out for cracked spots in the ground. Dig at these spots to find Fossil Pieces, which will eventually find a home with Blathers after his Museum opens.

Big Goal 2 Collect resources again!

Repeat the resource collection process from Day 1, hitting all of the rocks and trees on your island. You can make the timing of the rock mining a little easier by digging two holes in a diagonal formation like this:

What Are Amiibo Cards For Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Introduced for Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Amiibo cards are a cheaper alternative to the figurines, allowing both Nintendo produce and players to collect many more of them. How many you ask? Nintendo has produced 400 Animal Crossing Amiibo Cards so far in four series. Each featuring different characters as well as outfits for favorites like Isabelle.

You can view the entire collection on Nintendos animal-crossing website by clicking here. Wed list them all out but honestly, you dont want to scroll for 20 pages. Just know that if you like a specific villager, theyre probably included. The website also lists which games the Amiibo card is compatible for, with most showing Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, and Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival. At the time of writing, the website has not been updated for Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Why Is Animal Crossing So Relaxing

As Jennifer Scheurle points out in a piece for Polygon, the pacing in Animal Crossing is key to its relaxing nature. You learn new skills gradually and are given ample time to explore and play at your own pace. In this sense, Animal Crossing is a reminder of the Before Times. It is escapism on X-Games mode.

Animal Crossing Roost: Everything To Do In Brewster’s Cafe

The Roost is finally returning to Animal Crossing in New Horizons’ 2.0 update, and along with it comes several new activities and features to explore.

Brewster and The Roost cafe are both returning to Animal Crossing: New Horizons as part of the game’s free 2.0 update on November 5th, and along with the new location comes several new activities for players to engage with. In previous Animal Crossing games, The Roost was a hub of unique features, serving as a storage space, a social hangout area, and even a part-time job that offered players unique gameplay opportunities not found in the rest of the game. While not all of these features seem to be included in New Horizons – at least for the time being, though a future expansion could change this – there’s still quite a lot to do there. Here’s what players can expect from The Roost in Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ 2.0 update.

Why Do People Love Animal Crossing

Animal Crossing is a life simulator. Each game has you move to a new town inhabited by adorable anthropomorphic animals. The latest entry in the series, New Horizons, has you sailing to a deserted island after purchasing a holiday package from a raccoon called Tom Nook.

If youve never played an Animal Crossing game before, dont be put off. Theres no story or homework to catch up on to enjoy this outing. Im envious of anyone who hasnt already dipped their toes in. Theres so much to discover and fall in love with on your first outing.

The series began life on the GameCube in 2001, which established many of the franchises long-running characteristics. The most notable of these is a real-time clock and calendar that mirrors the real-life passage of time. The seasons change as they do in real life. Playing at different times of day provides different things to see and do, too.

While the game offers many things to explore, the core gameplay loop is simple. When you start, youll be given a basic dwelling and a loan from Tom Nook. You earn currency to pay off your loan, which in turn upgrades your dwelling. Youll then be given a new loan to work off until youve got the biggest house in the village.

Although this might not sound compelling on paper, the way Nintendo presents Animal Crossing elicits a sense of calm and serenity that few other games can match. The naive art style, soft yet vibrant color palette, and lullaby-like music is good for the soul.

What To Do On Day 4

Animal Crossing Pocket Camp: A Decent Alternative for the ...

This is going to be a big day. Blathers Museum is going to be fully open, which means you can take everything youve been saving over to him for donation. If youve already donated something, itll be grayed out, so its a good idea to fill your inventory with potential discoveries to see what hell take. Afterward, you can sell everything thats grayed out.

Where do you sell it? Timmy and Tommys Store, of course! Nooks Cranny will be your new shopping destination for new furniture. You can also sell off unneeded items and check the board in front of the store for an in demand item that sells for far more than normal.

Big Goal 1 Build a Bridge

Talk to Tom Nook, who will mention that there are new people interested in moving to your island. But first he wants to make sure theres enough space for them. Hell give you a recipe for a Wooden Bridge, which will make traveling across a single river far easier. Itll require a handful of Wood to create the components, but youve been harvesting every day, right? So you should be fine!

Think long and hard about the placement of your first bridge, though. While the first bridge is free, subsequent bridges will cost a lot of Bells, so make this one count. Put it somewhere that you think will get the most use based on your island layout.

Big Goal 2 Select three housing plots

Big Goal 3 Build furniture for your plots

Big Goal 4 Harvest more resources

You know what to do!

How Can You Enjoy Your Island In An Animal

Instead of fishing or catching insects, engage in animal-friendly activities when your friends come to visit your island.

Like having a bonfire

playing music together under the stars

raiding a friends island to protest their museum for keeping fish captive

or discovering a secret beach together!

Sit back and enjoy island life while knowing that youre causing no real or virtual harm to animals.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons The Parent Zone Verdict

Our impression of Animal Crossing: New Horizons is overwhelmingly positive. Its great fun for children and adults alike and it teaches young people important personal skills such as patience and responsibility.

Many of the tasks you do in the game might seem mundane, but they have a strangely cathartic quality to them and its always exciting to see what each new day brings.

In these uncertain times, bringing things back to basics in Animal Crossing: New Horizons might be exactly what your child needs.

New Horizons: What’s New With Gameplay

Compared to the previous entries in the franchise, to say there’s a lot is putting it mildly. Animal Crossing games typically present players with a random map design whenever a new town is created. Players arrive via plane and attend an Orientation with CEO Tom Nook as they are welcomed to their new island adventure. Before getting started, you can pick your island layout, your hemisphere, and then select where you want to pitch your tent. You can place your home anywhere you want, even the beach! From there, you can help your fellow adventures select spots for their new homes, and then it’s time to start building.

In New Horizons, everyone starts from scratch, even Nook, by receiving the “Nook Inc. The Deserted Island Getaway Package.” Players have a tent, a NookPhone, and a pocket full of dreams. With this blank canvas, or “empty map,” you can really set to work making this island according to your vision. And that is exciting!

As you cultivate your new island home, you can invite residents, establish businesses, and eventually obtain a permit to shape your island home to your exact specifications. All this comes a fee, of course, but Tom Nook is happy to do it. Plus, you don’t have to do it alone. Up to eight of your family or friends can join you on the island, and together you can create it in your own unique vision.

What Is The Purpose Of Animal Crossing

Animal Crossing New Horizons: POOPING & FRUIT ENERGY Feature Explained (Landscape Trees & Rocks)

The main goal of the game, if there is one, is to fully upgrade your house and pay off your debt for each upgrade but how you get there is up to you. You can catch fish and bugs to sell, dig fossils, make friends with the local animals, unlock new characters and features or just wander around enjoying the scenery.
