Don’t: Leave Holes In Animal Crossing New Horizons
Island hosts can add other players to their best friends lists, giving them the ability to dig holes on their island. While players are visiting, they may stumble across a clam buried underground in the beaches. Players can dig these up and turn them into fishing bait. While it is cool to collect items from another player’s islands, it is recommended to clean up the holes left behind from digging. This can be a real annoyance to players who want to keep their island clean. Make sure to fill the holes after collecting the item.
Animal Crossing New Horizons is a game about building a community, not only with the local residents but the ones in the real world too. The island life can be a bit lonely, so going off to visit other friends is the best way to be alone together. There’s something special about Animal Crossing New Horizons that can only be explained by players of the games. It manages to successfully take dozens of hours from players without noticing. It’s hard to imagine that players can put hundreds of hours into a game about fishing and catching bugs, but that’s still a low bar for playtime. Animal Crossing New Horizons is one of the most addictive games to release in 2020.
Animal Crossing New Horizons is available now on the Nintendo Switch.
Ideas For Your Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island

Even after Tom Nook gives you the ability to terraform things, youre still left to your own devices. Thats why weve put together 25 ideas for your Animal Crossing island. How To Get Pumpkins In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
First up you’re going to need to buy some pumpkin starts, as they’re known in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. From October 1, the Nook nephews will start stocking pumpkin starts in the cabinet in Nook’s Cranny, retailing for 280 bells each. You can also buy them from Lief when he’s visiting your island for 140 bells each – half the price of the Nook’s Cranny offerings.
Sneak Around To Catch Insects
Many insects can be easily frightened. Some will run away after you walk near them, but others may run away even if you approach them silently. So if you want to catch such a careful specimen you have to sneak in.
To sneak around, you have to equip the butterfly net and press the A button. Then your character moves quietly and can get close to the insect you want to catch. When the insect will be in range of the butterfly net release the A button. After few seconds, you will have a bug in your inventory.

When Youve Completed All Of Tom Nooks Tasks
Ever since its launch on March 20, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has become one of the hottest games in the past few weeks, breaking sales records for Nintendo. Being a video game that allows room for creativity in areas such as home decor and outfit customization, theres a lot more to explore on your island than you think.
For those who are ironically bored inside the game, weve put together a list of activities you can do after completing all of Tom Nooks tasks. The list ranges from crossbreeding flowers to creating the perfect garden, to composing new tunes for your island and changing up your look from head to toe. If youre looking to make some more Bells, you can take advantage of the Stalk Market by searching up islands with good turnip deals for the day, or plant some cash to grow a Bell tree.

Putting On Pyjamas And Getting Into Bed To Save
First off, its almost an existential question can you truly trust someone who doesnt get into bed before they hit save at night in Animal Crossing? Further still, has that person switched from their daytime clothes to some more suitable nightwear and an eye mask? And here we were thinking that psychopath tests were more in-depth. This behaviour is actually one that most of us have inherited from Stardew Valley where your day only saves once youve crawled into bed covered in mud and sweat from the farm. Regardless, getting into your pit after a quick wand outfit switch feels like a perfect recipe for sweet dreams. Aaand light off. Gnight.

What To Do On Day 1
Youll start by picking your campsite location as well as the campsite locations of the other two villagers youve been handed. Pick carefully because you wont be able to change these locations for a while .
Once youve placed everyones tents, Tom Nook will give you some simple objectives . Finish that and head to the party. Feel free to take a nap after this, which is when the real game will start.
Once you wake up, youll be playing in real time . Make sure you speak to all of the villagers, as you may get some free furniture or a recipe for being a friendly neighbor.
Nook will give you the recipes for flimsy tools. Youll want to make a Flimsy Fishing Rod and a Flimsy Bug Net.
Big Goal 1 Donate 5 fish or bugs to Tom Nook for study
Use your fishing rod and net to collect the various bugs and fish youll see on your island. On your first day, youll only need five unique critters. After donating five, Nook will grant you an axe recipe and a watering can recipe. Hell also call his buddy, Blathers the Owl, and tell him to come to the island to open a museum.
Note: If you are playing on a Switch with other people, only the primary account holder can donate things to Nook. To make progress, youll need that primary account holder to finish their five donations.
Decide where you want Blathers Museum to go. Youll want to pick something central as youll be going there quite a bit.

What Is Island Backup
Island backup saves your island data and progress to our servers so that your data is stored in the event that you lose access to your Nintendo Switch console. If this happens, you can restore your island on a repaired or replacement Nintendo Switch console. Island backup is not enabled by default, so you will need to enable it in the in-game settings. For more information, see How to Back Up and Restore Island Save Data .

Remember To Change Camera Settings
You can’t freely manipulate the camera in Animal Crossing New Horizons. Well, actually, you can, but only inside buildings. What can you do, when you can’t see something important because it is hidden behind some objects? Use the right analog stick.
With the right analog stick, you can change the camera setting. Two camera settings can be used for playing. The third one is used for sky observation and it remains active until you move the character. If you can’t see something because it is hidden behind, for example, a tree, then change the camera setting. It should help.
Sometimes, when the camera is closest to the ground, the third camera view is especially useful. In that case, many objects in front of the protagonist might disappear, allowing you to see, for example, what is hidden in the shadow of a larger building.
Building Your Museum And Collection
If youve unlocked the Critterpedia app, the first thing you might notice is the great number of blank spots for fish and bugs. There are tons of common critters to catch, as well as rare ones, but they will come with time. You will quite literally need time, too. Some critters are only available in certain seasons and, even more specifically, at certain times. Check out our guide for Bugs and for Fish to see all the ones weve found so far along with their sale price.
Bug Catching Tips:
- You can approach bugs slowly by holding down A and moving toward your target.
- Regardless of how slow you move, some bugs will notice you. When they do, stand still and move again only after they look away!
- Some bugs will only appear on very specific places, like on flowers, on rocks by the ocean or on a tree stump.
- Bugs may not sell for much, but you will eventually meet a visitor who will buy them at a premium.
As far as fossils go, every crack in the ground you see is a fossil. Be sure to dig it up and always get it assessed before even thinking about selling it! Blathers can only do one at a time at first, but thatll change quickly.

Check In With Your Villagers
Talking to your villagers each day can be a good way to earn Nook Miles. Even if you already spoke with them during the day, its a good idea to check in with them at night, too.
Villagers often have different dialogue during the night, and it can be interesting to see what they are up to. Some night-owl villagers may be out and about walking around the island, commenting on how its late.
Other villagers might be inside their homes. You can tell they are awake if their lights are on. If they are awake, go inside and visit them. They might be crafting something, and they will share the DIY recipe with you.
Talking To Mr Nook Can Unlock New Features
Most Animal Crossing players know of Tom Nooks reputation. His love for money knows no bounds, and its perfectly understandable that some players would like to avoid him as much as possible. Plus, his house loans are too expensive, although, players can prolong their dues.
But talking to the owner of Nook Inc. can have various benefits, such as unlocking new features and discovering new recipes — which is rather important for island development. Mr. Nook may seem greedy, but he is not too bad.
Where To Catch A Coelacanth
Coelacanth only appear in the ocean, and they’re represented by the largest shadow. When it’s raining, just go to the ocean and keep an eye out for big fish. While you might still get the dreaded sea bass, with a little patience, you should get a coelacanth.
You can also go to a deserted island on a Mystery Tour to catch a coelacanth. Because the weather on these islands can be different from the weather on your own island, it doesn’t hurt to check if you’re eager to complete your museum or make a quick buck. That said, there’s no time limit to catching a coelacanth like with the game’s seasonal fish, so it’s probably more convenient to wait for rain on your own island.
Not Planning Ahead For Terraforming
Newcomers to New Horizons today will likely know that the game eventually offers an Island Designer feature. This lets them change almost any aspect of their island’s overall topography. In turn, players can design their dream island, brick by brick. Any players who’s done terraforming will know this is an exhausting process – and players who don’t plan ahead will definitely have to allot extra time than necessary.
To avoid this setback, players might want to have an “ideal” image of their island before playing the game. Thankfully, free apps like the Happy Island Designer exist to help players layout their island in advance. That way, players can build their buildings and position their Villager houses where they want that still accommodates their post-terraforming vision.

Find The Daily Visitor
Each day you should have a visitor on your island. This could be the washed up Gulliver, a seagull who is suspiciously found washed up on the beach, or someone like Saharah, a camel who trades mystery wallpaper, flooring, and rugs. Theres even a ghost who will occasionally appear at night named Wisp! They each offer different services or tasks that usually yield a reward.
Constructing A Bridge And New Homes
- Goals for the Day:
- Convince a Mystery Island Villager to Join You
- Gather Resources to Construct DIY Projects
- Furnish Homes
With Nooks Cranny now available, youll also find that a new visitor named Daisy Mae will being appearing on your island every Sunday to sell Turnips. These can be bought in bulk for a certain price, and every other day until Sunday, Timmy and Tommy will buy them for random prices – so buy low, sell high! They will also have a random DIY item that can be sold for double the price each day.
Nooks Cranny will also be open late, but once they close, you can drop items in a box out front to sell them if they arent around for a reduced price, which will be transferred to your pocket the next day.
As Tom Nook announces the stores opening, hell be interrupted by some big news – three new villagers want to move into your town! However, they arent exactly looking for the tent experience , so youll need to help furnish these houses before they arrive.
Get the Bridge Construction Kit from Tom Nook, and then set about gathering the necessary materials – 4 Log Stakes, 4 Clay, and 4 Stone. The Log Stakes need a bunch of wood to make, so be sure to stockpile any extra wood for your upcoming housing projects, youre going to need a lot of resources!
If you managed to convince a villager on an uncharted island to visit your town, they may be one of the arriving residents!

Plant A Bell Tree To Make More Money
Another way to make more money is to plant some. Whenever you come across a glowing spot on the ground and dig up Bells, plant a certain amount of cash of your choice in the same hole. A tree will grow in a few days, offering three money bags that you can shake off. These trees only produce Bells once, so after claiming your cash they will go back to being regular trees.
What To Do On Day 2
When you wake up, youll see that your tent has been upgraded to a house. Congrats! Youre well on your way. Head to Tom Nook, who will congratulate you and give you a new mortgage for 98,000 Bells for the next house upgrade. Time to get to work.
Big Goal 1 Donate 15 fish/bugs to Blathers
If you played a lot on Day 1, you were probably able to find 15 different species of bugs and fish . If so, bring them over to Blathers the Owl. Hell give you a recipe for the Flimsy Shovel and the Vaulting Pole, the latter of which you can use to cross over rivers in your town.
Once youve donated 15 species, you wont be able to donate any more, so hold any new species you find after that .
You should also have a letter from Mom, which includes three pieces of fruit that are not native to your town. Use your newly acquired shovel to dig three holes and plant the special fruit. Note that trees will only grow if there is one free space in every direction around it, so make sure the spots you pick are clear.
Speaking of the Flimsy Shovel, keep an eye out for cracked spots in the ground. Dig at these spots to find Fossil Pieces, which will eventually find a home with Blathers after his Museum opens.
Big Goal 2 Collect resources again!
Repeat the resource collection process from Day 1, hitting all of the rocks and trees on your island. You can make the timing of the rock mining a little easier by digging two holes in a diagonal formation like this:
