Getting Pumpkins In Animal Crossing New Horizons

Pumpkins are a new vegetable you can grow in the game, and as you might expect, theyre a required material for all of the new Halloween-themed DIY Recipes youre gonna be getting through this update. After youve installed the update, youll need to wait till Oct. 1 to be able to start buying pumpkin starters.

Head over to Nooks Cranny and check the cabinet to find the pumpkin starters. Theyll be sold for 280 Bells per starter.

However, if Leif happens to be visiting your island that day, you can buy the starters from him instead at a 50% discount. Leif sells each starter for 140 Bells, which will allow you to save a ton of money.

After youve gotten your starters, all you have to do is plant them in soil or grass like any other plant in Animal Crossing New Horizons. After that, youll want to water them. Theyll sprout in about five days whether you water them or not, but if you do decide to water them, your harvest will be much more bountiful.

Since you can only get the starters during October, its definitely recommended that you water them daily to make the most of your time. Your pumpkins can also have different colorations, so youll also want to grow as many as you can to collect all the different colors.

How To Get Yellow White And Green Pumpkins

Pumpkins come in four color varieties in New Horizons: orange, yellow, white, and green. Orange pumpkins are the most common variety. The less common yellow and white varieties and the rare green variety are required if you want to customize pumpkin DIY recipes from the Spooky Set. Unfortunately, these color varieties are completely random, and we’re not aware of any way to manipulate them while gardening, unlike the more customizable hybrid flowers.

The only way to get a new color variety is to plant more pumpkin seeds. If you’ve sectioned off part of your island as a pumpkin patch and have limited space to plant them, you could dig up an orange pumpkin plant and replace it with a new pumpkin start, then wait the four days to see what color pumpkin it produces. If you’re super meticulous, you could also plant pumpkins outside your patch, wait to get the color variety you want, then dig them up and replant them in your patch in the color configuration you want. In any case, forcing new color varieties will prove time consuming.

Another way to get new pumpkin colors is to trade with friends. You can swap pumpkins when visiting another player’s island or hosting a guest on your own, if they bring some. You can even dig up a friend’s plant and replant on your own island–though we recommend asking their permission before turning over a host island’s pumpkin patch!

Once you’ve secured a sack of seeds, it’s time to get gardening. Simply stand over an empty patch of land or dig a hole with a shovel, then open your inventory and deposit a seed. Just like any other plant you can get creative with your placements, like lining your paths.

From there it’s all about routinely watering them to make sure you maximize your pumpkin yield. Pumpkin Starts can sprout anywhere from one to three pumpkins at once. If you water a Start every single day until it’s fully grown, you’ll get a trio. Make sure your Start is sparkling after you water it to ensure it grows at maximum potential.

Animal Crossing New Horizons Pumpkin Patch Design Ideas ...

There are 14 total pumpkin DIYs in New Horizons for players to acquire in October. These can be shot down from balloons, acquired from villagers or — in some cases — gifted by Jack, the czar of Halloween, during the trick-or-treating event on Oct. 31. To craft these items, players will primarily need orange pumpkins, though a few require wood, iron or other standard materials.

Green, white and yellow pumpkins are not necessary for crafting. However, to customize the Spooky Furniture Set, players will need to harvest these colors as well. Rather than using the customization kits sold at Nook’s Cranny, players will need colored pumpkins to change up the spooky set, which defaults to orange when it’s crafted. If players change a piece of spooky furniture to green, white or yellow and later decide they liked it better before, they can use orange pumpkins to change it back.

Below are all of the spooky furniture DIYs and their required materials.

    • Spooky Fence
    • Spooky Tower
    • Spooky Candy Set
    • Spooky Lantern
    • Spooky Arch
    • Spooky Chair
    • Spooky Table
    • Spooky Scarecrow
    • Spooky Lantern Set
    • Spooky Standing Lamp
    • Spooke Table Setting
    • Spooky Garland
    • Spooky Carriage
    • Spooky Wand

Once they’ve purchased pumpkin starters, Animal Crossing: New Horizons players grow, harvest, craft and customize with pumpkins all year long.
