Animal Crossing: New Horizons Turnip Guide: How To Buy Sell And Find The Best Price
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
They dont tell you this at the ticket counter, but it all comes back to Turnips. There are many other sectors of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons economy, from butterflies to fish, fruits and fossils, but they all pale in comparison to Turnips. If you want to get rich in this island paradise, build the house of your dreams and drive your neighbors wild with envy, there is but one path: buy turnips, sell turnips, repeat. The stalk market rules all. Ive written a fair amount about this fascinating piece of the Animal Crossing economy, but wanted to synthesize everything into one simple guide.
So, if you were wondering what was up with Turnips, read on.
The Basics: Turnips are a special item in the Animal Crossing series. They can only be purchased on Sundays, and they will rot if you do not sell them within one week. They fluctuate in price, like the stock market, and so you can either lose money or make money depending on when you sell them.
How do I buy them? Every Sunday, from 4:00 AM to 12:00 PM, a character named Daisy Mae will wander around your island. Shes easy to recognize: there are turnips on her head.
During this time, Daisy Mae will sell you turnips at a pre-determined price ranging from 90-110 bells. A lower price is better. You can buy them in stacks of 10, as many as you can carry, and you can make multiple trips. You can easily put all of your fortune into Turnips, and many do.
You Can Sell Turnips On Other Islands
If your pattern is a bad one then don’t worry. You can sell turnips on other islands. Simply travel to a friend’s island via dodo code or open gates to sell elsewhere and profit.
Setting up a small group where you share turnip prices can help you get the best return on your investment. Just make sure to play fair and invite others to take advantage of your own price spikes.
Donate Your Animal Crossing Rotten Turnips For A Good Cause
Losing bells in the stalk market can help feed families in need.
Mayonnaise manufacturer Hellmann’s is looking to “bring out the best” of spoiled turnips in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The company’s Canadian branch will be running a virtual food drive next week that will see up to 25,000 meals donated to Canadian charity Second Harvest, one for every rotten turnip that is gifted by Nintendo Switch owners. Players won’t be giving up anything valuable in-game as expired turnips are thrown out by players if they’re not being used to attract ants. Generally, they’re used to make money in the game’s lucrative stalk market.
The Animal Crossing food drive will kick off on Monday, August 17 at 3 PM ET and will last until 12:15 AM ET on Saturday, August 22. To access Hellmann’s New Horizons island, players will have to send a message to the company’s . It will then send them a Dodo Code that will allow them to visit and donate any spoiled turnips they have. After players help feed those in need, they will have 15 minutes to check out Hellmann’s island, which has been decked out with custom clothing at the Able Sisters’ shop, has a farm to check out and an outdoor kitchen.

How To Sell Turnips
Now that you have turnips in your inventory, its time to sell. Unfortunately, you cant sell turnips to Nooks Cranny on Sundays, which means youll have to wait to sell them between Monday and Saturday .;
Nooks Cranny will offer a different price for turnips each day, and the value can fluctuate dramatically. Prices can be as low as 15 bells or as high as 990 bells in rare cases, which is where the concept of playing the stalk market comes in. Check the turnip price each day and try to sell for more than you paid. Youll only have a limited time to do so, too, as turnips will go rotten one week after purchase and lose all their value.
Animal Crossing Turnips Guide: Buy Sell And Store Turnips
How to make a profit buying and selling turnips, how to store turnips, and how long until turnips spoil.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons doesn’t a simple economy, even if you don’t have to pay interest on Tom Nook’s mortgages. Selling fruit, bugs, fish, and various random items to make a quick bell will get you by for a bit, but you’ll need to get better income sources as your house payments start to balloon and you have to make larger infrastructure improvements around town. You’ll need to make use of the game’s stock market–which it cheekily calls the “stalk market”–in order to make enough money for this. New content releases regularly, so you’ll want to stay on top of your funds.
Named for the turnips you’re buying and selling, the stalk market is a finicky thing that takes practice and commitment. But you can stand to make major profits if you keep an eye on Timmy and Tommy’s prices and know when to sell. We’ve rounded up everything you need to know about Animal Crossing’s turnip trade, from how to buy turnips to the types of stalk market patterns you should look out for and our best tips. They aren’t the only way to earn a lot of bells, but they are one of the most consistent if you do it every week. Eventually, you’ll hit the jackpot!

You Can’t Put Turnips In Storage
Turnips don’t have to stay in your pockets but they cannot be put into your house storage. You’ll need to store them on the floor inside your house or outside.
They won’t spoil just from being outside but anything outside your house can be picked up by visitors to your island so you’ll need to be aware of this. Surround them with a fence and keep them out of sight at the minimum.
What Time Does Daisy Mae Show Up To Sell Turnips In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Turnip seller Daisy Mae is one of several characters who will roam the island on foot, but unlike other vendors such as carpet seller Saharah, you can set your watch to Daisy Mae’s arrival.
Daisy Mae will appear in your village every Sunday morning, leaving at 12pm. Previous games saw Joan arrive at 6am, and it’s likely the same in New Horizons for any early risers out there.
Talk to Daisy Mae and she will sell you Turnips in batches of 10. The price of these Turnips will change week-to-week, and from player-to-player, so provided you are happy with the price, purchase as many as you are comfortable with.
Now you have Turnips, the aim is to sell them in the following week. But no matter what, they must be sold by the following Sunday. Otherwise, the Turnips will rot, and your investment will be lost. Remember – if you get to Saturday afternoon and you sell at loss, it’s better to do that than lose it all.
If you’ve just started playing, note you must have played for at least two or three days before Daisy Mae first appears. You should receive a letter from her in the mail, advertising her services, ahead of her first visit on the coming Sunday.
Identifying Trends: How To Sell Turnips For The Best Price
Selling turnips is more science than art. Theres an element of luck in play, but the advent of internet communications has made it incredibly easy for players to band together to make sense of the seemingly random amounts of green the Nooklings offer for these volatile white vegetables, which change twice a day, before and after noon.
Online apps like Turnip Prophet offer a convenient way to track your turnip trends, so you know exactly when to round up your veggies and cash in, practically eliminating the risk of making a loss on your weeks investment.
Based on past data, its possible to predict the trend your weeks turnip prices will follow. The four known patterns turnip prices adhere to are as follows:
- Small Spike
These are the currently understood patterns, and theyre about as self-explanatory as they come. Small spikes see prices jump to around the 200 Bell mark at some point in the week, whereas a large spike can peak anywhere up to 660 Bells. Decreasing will see the Nooklings offer less and less than the base price as the week goes on, while random is just that random. Youll never make more than 140% profit on a random trend, so its best to sell whenever the Nooklings offer you higher than your purchase price.
An Alternative Option: Try Discord
Reddit is by far my top choice for reducing the stress of turnip selling. If you want to make some extra cash, but you dont want to spend hours queuing for islands every week, Reddit should give you a much simpler experience.
You might even find a few friendly people who will allow you to leave the island and come back with more turnips. This is rare, but its a possibility.
If you have more than one inventory full of turnips, youre better off using Discord.
Check out some of the Discord servers that support turnip selling here.
Unlike Reddit channels and the Turnip Exchange, where you only see a handful of islands, youll find literally hundreds of people posting their turnip prices on Discord. Usually, you can DM a few people, get your codes, and sell anywhere up to 5 lots of turnips within a couple of hours.
Bonus tip: If you find someone on Saturday whos willing to accept multiple trips, and you dont have that many turnips, consider checking the boards again. Some people from overseas might already have Daisy Mae on their islands. That means you can buy more turnips, then go back to your selling island for a bigger bonus.

Do Turnips Rot When You Time Travel
Setting Back the Clock will Rot Turnips
If you Time Travel to try to avoid your Turnips rotting, they will rot automatically.
Even if it’s Saturday afternoon and you can’t get a good price, don’t set the in-game clock back! You’re better off selling at a loss.
Rotten turnips attract ants
Rotten turnips placed on the ground will attract a swarm of ants, which you can then cath using a net!
Spoiled Turnips Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Now, players will find that their turnips will be spoiled if they do not sell them by the next Sunday following the Sunday when they purchased them. If their vegetables are not sold in this week, they will rot and be worthless when it comes to you being able to sell them for any kind of decent profit. However, all is not lost when it comes to getting some usefulness out of these spoiled vegetables in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.;

Players can leave the rotten food on the ground and use it to attract flies and ants. Using the rotten food is a great way to encounter and catch flies and ants for your bug list or any other kind of things you may need these critters for in the popular game. All that you need to do is drop the spoiled turnips on the ground and wait. Flies and ants will eventually come towards the rotten food to get a meal, and this will be your opportunity to catch the bugs for your collection. The amount of flies and ants that will show up is random, so we suggest waiting a decent amount of time to see just how many of these bugs will come up to your rotten food before going to catch them.;

What’s New With The Stalk Market
In all Animal Crossing entries, players can dabble in buying and selling turnips to make a profit. In previous games, Joan was the basket-bearing boar eager to share her turnips for a price. However, the role has now been relegated to her granddaughter, Daisy Mae.
You can find sweet Daisy Mae wandering your island from 5am to noon each Sunday, selling her wares in bundles of 10 at unlimited amounts, if you have the money. The prices can vary from 90 Bells to 110 Bells per turnip .
As always, players have from Monday until the following Sunday to unload their stock at which time, the turnips will rot, along with your investment. Of course, time travelling will also rot your lot, so don’t go committing any time crimes after buying.
The turnips can be sold Monday-Saturday at the island’s shop for anywhere from 15 to 800 Bells . There will be two different prices per day, with the change occurring at noon. Prices will fluctuate throughout the week, often along different patterns so watch carefully.
Of course, seasoned veterans will be well aware that turnips take up space and cannot be kept in storage. If you’re stuck on ideas for where to keep your turnips until the market turns, we’ve got you covered in our Pockets Inventory Upgrade Guide .

Efficient Selling Between Two Players
This method requires Time Travelling, but is an efficient way of earning bells through Turnip Trading.
One player time travels to a day when Turnip prices are high, while the other time travels to Sunday when Turnip prices are low.
Both players will alternate visiting each other’s islands to maximize the profits from selling Turnips!
The other island’s clock doesn’t affect your Turnips
Even if the in-game clock is different on the Switch of the island you visit, it won’t cause your Turnips to rot.
The state of your Turnips is based on your own island’s clock, so even if you or the other player have Time Traveled before, you can travel to any player’s island without fear.
