Game Mechanics And Concepts
The developers made sure to make the game not only welcoming new players but to also retain core concepts from the previous games to keep older fans of the series happy. A crafting system was implemented to allow the player to keep the player from running out of things to do after the in-game stores close. She mentioned how the D.I.Y. crafting system would keep players in theme with the game by interacting and using the natural environment to their advantage. Kyogoku took note of players who began playing Animal Crossing games via mobile apps, such as Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, by implementing the Nook Miles feature which would show the player what kinds of activities and concepts they can achieve by rewarding them to do so. The Nook Miles system also rewards the player for doing common tasks and collecting materials that would sell for cheap to keep the player from only tediously searching out expensive materials. Furniture and clothing accessibility and customization were emphasized for multiplayer so players could show pride in their islands.
Collecting Crops And Cooking
Back in Animal Crossing: City Folk, fans will also remember that Brewster used to store gyroids at The Roost. For newer folk unfamiliar with the gyroids, these are adorable semi-sentient decoration pieces that players can collect. In New Leaf, gyroids were plenty abundant, buried underground like hidden treasure in players homes rather than The Roost.
They are a staple to the series, and yet New Horizons only has a sole gyroid is called Lloid. As a non-playable character, Lloid collects donations for projects on the island like building ramps or bridges. Now Lloid wont be alone, as Nintendo announced that gyroids will also be making a comeback in the new update.
Besides their strange yet cute appearance, gyroids can play music and can be customized to match your room decorations. Whats more, by planting them, players can grow these semi-sentient pieces and create even more gyroids.
But gyroids wont be the only thing that players can enjoy planting, as a new range of crops are also coming to New Horizons. Fans will relish the new feature to plant a variety of vegetables at once, expanding a great deal beyond the pumpkins currently available in the game.
In addition to that, an exciting new feature thats arriving is cooking. Just like building furniture, players will find themselves spending a lot more time with the game, following recipes to make an array of meals.
Craft Your Own Furniture
For the first time in the series, players will have the ability to craft their own furniture. This is a massive change considering players had to previously be at the will of what was sold in the shops.
With this change, players will be able to whip up whatever they desire and not have to worry about what the shop has or doesnt have in stock.

Furniture Can Be Placed Outside
Animal Crossing: New Horizons arrives on March 20.
Yeah, we know that you can do this in Pocket Camp, but you werent able to do this in New Leaf. Instead, you had to put everything inside of your house, which means the residents of your town didnt get to see any of your beautiful designs unless they went inside.
New Horizons has remedied that, so feel free to deck out both the inside and outside of your home.
There you have it! Here are 10 new features that should get you hyped up for the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Of course, Nintendo hasnt unveiled everything about the game, so theres going to be a ton of content for players to discover as they hop into the world of New Horizons beginning on March 20.
Roost Cafe With Brewster
Brewster has been one of the most highly-requested characters to make a return in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and the v2.0 update brings him back to the series. Brewster the barista will open up a cafe called The Roost in the museum.
Youll be able to visit this cafe and order a cup of coffee for 200 bells. Other island residents may join you, and you can invite specific ones using an amiibo card. Amiibo Cards And Where To Pre
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players can scan amiibo cards to invite villagers to live on their islands. It is worth noting that this feature will only be unlocked once the player has established a campground that allows random villagers to drop by for a visit. Additionally, amiibo cards can be scanned at Harvey’s island for photoshoots. Once the upcoming update is installed, players can also scan amiibo cards at Brewster’s The Roost cafe to invite a villager for a drink. Lastly, players can also use amiibo cards to bring specific villagers as a client in the upcoming Happy Home Paradise DLC.
In the U.S., the new set of Series 5 Animal Crossing amiibo cards are sold in packs of 6. However, it should be noted that this would vary in other countries where they’re sold in three packs. The villagers included in each pack are also selected at random, so it could take players a few sets to get a specific villager they’re hunting for. Pre-orders for the Series 5 Animal Crossing amiibo cards are available right now in select retailers such as Best Buy and Walmart. Each pack costs $5.99, and players interested in snagging a few sets should start their hunt now, given that the amiibo cards go in and out of stock due to high demand.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now for Nintendo Switch.
Acnh 20 Adds More Villager Home Visits
A large part of Animal Crossings charm belongs with its many Villagers, whose unique styles, wardrobes, personalities, and appearances craft a unique community in any game. Unfortunately, while players could visit different Villager homes at will , Villagers could not visit players as easily. Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 update allows Villagers to schedule play dates with the player, opening the opportunity to participate in minigames and have unique conversations. This new mechanic encourages players to spend more time with their Villager residents, whether theyve just met them or have had them on their island since launch.

Faith is the final new Villager to Animal Crossing: New Horizons and appeared twice before in the Animal Crossing GameCube game and Dbutsu no Mori e+. Faith was a Normal Animal Crossing Villager in both games and one of the cuter Koala Villagers.
Her innocent eyes and flower petal accessory combined with rosy cheeks makes her far more approachable than other members of her species roster. While she may not top the charts as the most popular Villager in ACNH, shell likely be a welcome addition to any player that finds her.

Order Overnight Nook Miles Items
Whether or not you’re prepared to buy the storage shed, it’s worth paying a visit to the Nook Stop, as there are numerous new items for purchase with Nook Miles. You can buy a notebook with new reactions, recipes for new types of fences, and an assortment of items to decorate your island. The physical items need to be delivered by mail, which takes a day, so be sure to place an order for the ones you want most. Remember that there’s a cap of five items per day that you can order here, so prioritize your wishlist and order accordingly.
Animal Crossing Finally Gets Permanent Ladders
ACNHintroduced many new terraforming mechanics, introducing stairs and ramps for Villagers and players to navigate between island layers. Thankfully, Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ 2.0 update introduced a less intrusive traversal method in the form of permanent ladders. These creations are far smaller than stairs or ramps and are much more convenient for players.
Construction projects like bridges or ramps are usually placed by houses or other important buildings, but permanent ladders offer a swifter way of accessing raised flower fields, orchards, or storage areas. Animal Crossing’s new permanent ladders also eliminate a lengthy animation of pulling out a personal ladder and pulling it back up behind the player character.

Happy Home Paradise Paid Dlc
The Happy Home Paradise paid DLC lets you design dream vacation homes and other buildings for various characters.
Alongside the free 2.0 update, Nintendo is releasing a paid DLC expansion for Animal Crossing: New Horizons called Happy Home Paradise. Similar to the Happy Home Designer game for the Nintendo 3DS, this expansion lets you build dream vacation homes and other kinds of buildings for different villagers based on their requests.
The Happy Home Paradise DLC costs $25. It is also included for free as part of the new Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack tier. An individual subscription to the expanded service costs $50 per year, while an annual family plan — which covers up to eight different Nintendo accounts across multiple systems — costs $80.
Cooking In Animal Crossing: New Horizons Explained
Aside from this change, you need to gather a selection of ingredients, much like finding materials for building furniture, from across your island. This can be anything from fruit to pumpkins to fish and even seasonal materials like mushrooms.
When you’re ready to cook a dish, interact with your chosen stove and select the recipe you want to make. Like when crafting furniture, you’ll be able to see which and how many ingredients are required for your recipe and whether or not you currently have them.
Eating a cooked dish will, like eating fruit or candy, give you the power to break rocks or dig up trees for a specific amount of time. Different dishes will allow you to utilise these techniques for a different amount of time, so take that into account if you’re planning on some island renovations or just go to the toilet if you don’t!

Potential Animal Crossing Stationary Crossovers
Stationery products include everyday items that would be perfect for Animal Crossing. Hobonichis incredibly successful 2022 Animal Crossing: New Horizons-themed planner cover confirmed there was interest, while the amount of planning that goes into decorating an island in New Horizons makes it a game worth keeping a journal for. Even fans who dont plan out their in-game activities and dont use a planner for their daily lives still make use of items such as notebooks, notepads, pens, and desk organizers.
There are plenty of stationary and office product brands that could team up with Animal Crossing, but one in particular that stands out is Erin Condren. This brand already collaborates with Sanrio, which already crossed over with Animal Crossing in both New Leaf and New Horizons. Erin Condren makes numerous types of planners and notebooks that can meet fans different needs, as well as notepads and other desk accessories that would brighten up any room if printed with Animal Crossing patterns. Like a potential bag crossover, stationary can be used by anyone, and notebook covers and pen barrels can feature any combinations of characters, settings, and other details from the Animal Crossing series to make them truly unique and sought after by fans. Best of all, theyre practical, so theyll receive constant use and consistent demand.
New Island Customization Options
The 2.0 update will include many new island customization options, including island ordinances. In previous games, island ordinances meant villagers would wake up earlier, go to bed later, and a few other specific actions depending on which ordinance you selected.
