How To Reel In Your Catch

How to Catch the Great White Shark & More in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Once the fish starts to nibble the bobberand it can nibble up to five timesyou can watch and listen for clues that its time to reel it in. Press the A Button right when the bobber goes under, making a kerplunk sound. Timing is everything, so be careful not to reel in too soon. If you pull the bobber back in before it goes under, then the fish will swim away.

How To Catch A Shark

The first thing a player needs to look out for are visual cues. Sharks are bigger than most fish; however, fish can also be rather big, so size is not the best way to tell if something’s a shark. The biggest thing to keep an eye out for when looking for sharks is a fin above the shadow in the water. This is the main visual difference between sharks and fishif there is a fin, then it’s a shark.

In terms of actually fishing for a shark in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it’s not really much different than fishing for any normal fish. To catch a shark, the player only needs to pull their line in when a shark bites down. Really, catching a shark gets tricky because the timing to catch one is different.

With sharks, the lure goes down much more quickly than with other fish, so the player needs to press A with quick timing in order to catch one. If fish, and therefore sharks, aren’t coming up as quickly as one would like, craft and use some fishing bait in order to keep the pace up.

One more thing to keep in mind is when and where sharks can be found. Sharks must be found in the ocean, whether it be on the player’s home island or one of the randomly generated islands players can fly to. If cliffs are blocking the ocean on a particular side of the island, the player can climb over them with help from the ladder tool.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.

Every Fish In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

The list below contains the time of year, time of day, location, shadow size, and price for every fish in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This is divided into two separate tables, as the months of the year will be different for each hemisphere.

Location

There are three types of environments for fish on the island: sea , river, and pond. The river is further split into three categories–river mouth, river clifftop, and general river–and the sea also includes the more specific pier location, which is the wooden pier somewhere on your island . Fish like salmon can only be found at the river mouth, which is where the river meets the ocean, while others, like the cherry salmon, can only be found at parts of the river on your island’s cliffs, for example.

Shadow Size

Fish come in a few different sizes, and each type of fish appears as the same size shadow each time. The shadow sizes are: extra small , small , medium , large , extra large , and giant . Longer, skinnier shadows in the ocean are eels, which can be caught like any other fish, and some shadows will also appear with a fin on top, signaling a shark or other rare, finned fish. You can use our chart and the tables below to help determine the size of a fish’s shadow and which fish it might be.

Sharks are an interesting case, as some of them only appear in specific hemispheres during certain times of the year. At the start of the game, the player has the option between the southern and northern hemispheres. Here is the month layout for sharks in each hemisphere.

  • Southern Hemisphere – December to March
  • Northern Hemisphere – June to September.

Sharks will only appear during these time periods. Players can change the date on their Nintendo Switch to reach these times. Here are tips and tricks for catching sharks in;Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

How To Cast Your Line

Press the A Button to cast your line so the bobber lands in front of the fish. Positioning yourself in right way can be tricky! If the bobber is out of the fishs sight or floats past the fish without it noticing, you can press the A Button to pull in your line and try again. You can cast your line from different spots around your island, like off bridges, cliffs, waterfalls, or even the airport pier.

How Do You Catch Each Shark

Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to Catch Sharks

The trick to reeling in one of the many sharks available in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is to craft fish bait using the squirting Manila Clams you dig up on the beach with your shovel in order to have one of these rare fish spawn quicker. Each clam can be crafted into a single helping of fish bait which you can sprinkle in any body of water for the shadow of a fish to appear.

Another tell sign that you’re about to reel in a shark lies within its shadow, as the shadow of any shark will feature a fin that sticks straight up out of the water. However, the shadow of the Suckerfish also sports a shark-like shadow, so you may end up catching a few of those in the process. Also, when you toss out fish bait, if you see a fish shadow that doesn’t feature a shark fin, you can simply toss more fish bait out and a new fish shadow will appear.

To catch any of the sharks you’re looking for, you’re going to need time, patience, and some luck. We headed off down to our beach, found a nice spot, and fished to our heart’s content with an obnoxious supply of fish bait. After tossing in around 100 bait we managed to nab a Hammerhead Shark, Saw Shark, Whale Shark, and two Great White Sharks. We feel we got fairly lucky with that amount of bait, but your results may vary

    How To Catch Sharks

    How to catch a shark

First off, some general tips before we get into the specifics for certain breeds. All sharks in Animal Crossing: New Horizons appear in the ocean, often near the pier though it is not required, and feature a unique shadow that you wont see for other fish. Instead of just the shadow itself youll actually see the dorsal fin sticking out as well.

When you see this you know that you have a shark ready to go. The rest remains pretty much the same, just toss your line in front of them to get their attention, then wait for them to bite and pull the bobber underwater. The reward will be in the ten thousand Bell range, or a fancy addition to your museum.

Theres four sharks available in the game: whale shark, hammerhead shark, saw shark, and great white shark. All are valued differently but will appear around the same time. Shark season runs from December to March in the Southern Hemisphere and June to September in the Northern Hemisphere. While the great white shark can spawn at any time during the day, the other three will only appear between 4pm and 9am, so try to stick to night fishing if you want one.

There is one way to get a lot of sharks, but it is unfortunately quite random. Shark Island is out there, and is just a Nook Miles Ticket away. However, there is no way to guarantee that you end up there when you take the trip. If you do, be sure to fill your inventory with them. Fishing In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Fishing in Animal Crossing: New Horizons isnt too complicated, but there are some things you should be aware of. For starters, each fish will give you some indication of its presence, such as a shadow or fin. The size of the fishs shadow is indicative of how big the fish is which makes sense. So, if youre prioritizing a specific fish that happens to be large, you can safely skip over the smaller shadows.

To fish, you need to have a fishing rod, which can be purchased from Nooks Cranny . Approach a body of water, such as a river, pond, or the sea, and look for a shadow to appear. Typically, these shadows will indicate the presence of a fish, but sometimes youll only get trash instead. Throw your line at the fishs shadow, let it sit for a few moments, and as soon as it plops down, reel in the line. If timed correctly, youll catch the fish. In addition, if youre playing on a normal Nintendo Switch , youll feel a vibration indicating its time to reel in the fish.

Keep in mind, you can always sell your fish at Nooks Cranny, but once a week, CJ comes to your island, and he actually offers more bells than youd get otherwise, so it pays to sell to him instead. You must finish CJs fishing challenge before hell accept fish from you. CJ will appear anywhere around your island, so keep an eye out for him as you explore.

The mole cricket is annoying bug that hides within any grassy area you can dig up. As long as you have some patience and you follow your ears, you can capture these bugs and silence them.

The mole cricket will chirp when its active from November to May. They can appear at any time of day, so youll come across them at any point that isnt between June and October.

    To catch a mole cricket

  • Stop walking the second you hear their telltale chirping.
  • Then, pay attention to the direction in which their sound is coming from. Try holding your Switch up to your face, using headphones, or listening closely on your TV.
  • After youve figured out which direction the noise is coming from, take a few steps in that direction. As long as youre headed in the right direction, the sound will get louder.
  • When the sound is at its loudest, take out your Shovel and start digging. You may not guess right the first time, but keep listening and digging holes until the brown mole cricket pops out of the ground.Itll still be chirping and start to run away.
  • Follow it with your Net, and grab it but be careful. As Blathers will tell you, not only can they fly away, but they might even escape to the water to chirp another day.

There are sharks in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. No, they are not dangerous well, at least in the game. Players can catch sharks and sell them to earn Bells , or they can donate them to the museum. There are different types of sharks.

How To Catch a Shark in Animal Crossing: New Leaf

Catching a shark is more difficult than catching a fish or other sea creatures in the game. Sharks can easily get away, and they are rarely seen during gameplay.

The basic and most important rule of catching a shark in Animal Crossing: New Leaf is to throw your fishing rod at it, wait for it to bite, and as soon as you hear the sound, instantly reel it in. If you fail, the shark will escape and it will take a while before you find another.

Whats this sound that Im talking about?

When youre catching fish, you hear a bubble sound, right? Well, its the same with sharks. However, sharks do not get trapped for an extended amount of time like some fishes. Thats why I said theyre not easy to catch. Instead, you have to wait until you hear the bite sound during the gameplay, and as soon as you hear it, press the A button on the Nintendo 3DS to reel it in. Im not talking about the tease bite the shark will get away.
