Everything Animal Crossing’s Happy Home Paradise Dlc Adds To Acnh
Animal Crossing’s Happy Home Paradise DLC lets players create villagers’ dream vacation homes. Here’s everything the paid expansion adds to ACNH.
This November, the Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise DLC brings the game’s first paid expansion to Nintendo Switch. Free additions like Brewsters cafe, DIY recipes for cooking, and a town ordinance system are also coming via New Horizons’ 2.0 update, but the Happy Home Paradise DLC promises to take players away from their established islands to craft custom vacation spots for villagers, potentially providing a games worth of new options for creativity.
Per the official trailer for the Animal Crossing DLC, the goal of Happy Home Paradise is “helping characters acquire their dream vacation homes.” The player is given the option to fly from their home village to a resort archipelago, overseen by the Paradise Planning Team, where villagers lounge on the beach, pondering aloud their ideals for a dream home. The trailer shows the player selecting an island from a map of the archipelago, and each island seems to have its own terrain and shape that can’t be altered. After meeting the vacationing animals base requirements for their getaway home, the player is given free reign to customize it and the surrounding area.

Animal Crossing Happy Home Paradise Dlc Adds Entire Town To Customize
Along with its final free update on November 5, Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Happy Home Paradise DLC will be its first paid expansion.
In addition to its final free Nintendo Switch update, the title, release date, price, and content of Animal Crossing: New Horizons‘ Happy Home Paradise DLC expansion has been revealed by Nintendo. An Animal Crossing Direct was announced during September’s Nintendo Direct, causing expectations and speculation surrounding Animal Crossing: New Horizons‘ long-awaited update to soar.
Customization is a key part of the Animal Crossing franchise, and New Horizons is no slouch in that department with its wide assortment of furniture and clothing and near-endless custom design potential. However, the Nintendo Switch entry was still criticized after launch for a perceived lack of depth and missing features from past mainline and spinoff entries, with a common player and critic complaint being they felt they ran out of things to do and see at one point or another. It appears Nintendo EPD has been listening, as that will soon be changing.

What Is The Animal Crossing Happy Home Paradise Price
During the Animal Crossing Direct, Nintendo dove into the pricing model for the Happy Home Paradise DLC, but it wasnât as straightforward as you might expect. Happy Home Paradise is not free, though if you purchase the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, the DLC is included at no additional cost.
The Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack is the enhanced version of the paid subscription service, offering N64 and Sega Genesis games in addition to the current catalog of NES and SNES retro titles. It costs $50 annually, as opposed to the $20 price point for the basic Nintendo Switch Online service.
So, for an extra $30 per year, youâll gain access to a slew of additional games, along with the Happy Home Paradise DLC, which could be worth it, depending on your tastes.
In a statement to Digital Trends, Nintendo confirmed that players who gain access to the DLC via the subscription service wonât lose the associated items if the membership is canceled .
âPlayers can keep all items theyâve acquired using the DLC during their membership to use on the main island,â a Nintendo spokesperson told the publication.
This means players can dive into the DLC, cancel their Expansion Pack membership, and still retain all of the items tied to Happy Home Paradise. Canceling the membership will cause players to lose access to the meat and potatoes of the DLC, such as the job system, and the content associated with the archipelago. Only your items will remain if you unsubscribe.

Safe Trading And Inflated Pricing
Nookazon has been used by scammers to make users buy overpriced items. To combat this, Nookazon introduced an “average price” graph which showed the average price of the item over time to ensure that users do not buy overpriced items. In addition, a “Safe Trading Guide” is available to all users that outlines various method in which scammers attempt to cheat on buyers and sellers and how to prevent them.
For high value items, users have inflated the price ten-fold, in order to gain the most money possible. One significant instance of this is with villagers, specifically Raymond, a villager new to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Prices have been inflated into the tens of millions. The high demand for these characters perpetuates the inflation. This occurs with rare furniture items too, with a poster being in the millions. Many have criticised the villager trading system, accusing Nookazon as being in “the darkest corners of the internet”. Seasonal materials are also susceptible to large fluctuations in price, with an auction for 100 cherry blossom petals selling at a total of 2.8 million bells.
Black Lives Matter Controversy

Following the George Floyd protests which began in May 2020, users of Nookazon criticized the website’s leaders and moderators for banning Discord members who posted in support of Black Lives Matter. Nookazon leadership later clarified that they support the protests, pledging to donate $500 towards the cause. They stated that users could opt-in to a “current events” channel where this discussion could take place. This channel was edited to be a non-interactive “global resources” channel with links to protest information.

Theres Some Serious Interest In A New Animal Crossing
Before Nintendo Labo was revealed in mid-January 2018, Animal Crossing fans speculated that Nintendo was about to reveal a new Switch title for the console. This was in part because Aya Kyogoku, a prominent developer for the series who previously served as Animal Crossing: New Leafs director, shared the pre-reveal Nintendo Labo announcement on her Twitter. Her post quickly went viral, with Nintendo fans speculating that Animal Crossing for Switch was on the way.
Granted, Animal Crossing fans didnt receive their Switch reveal then, but its not just Kyogoku that had fans interested in the series. As it turns out, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp was by mid-Dec. 2017, which is shockingly high for just a few weeks.
Granted, those download figures arent nearly as high as Super Mario Runs, which touted 40 million downloads within just four days. But Pocket Camps sheer popularity at launch demonstrates that theres some serious interest in Animal Crossing. Between Nintendo Labos pre-reveal viral storm and Pocket Camps sheer popularity, theres clearly a demographic interested a new Animal Crossing.
Perhaps Nintendo is listening in on the hype. Or alternatively, Pocket Camp may be Nintendos attempt to test the waters and see how the franchise performs in 2017 and 2018. If thats the case, then Nintendo may be building momentum right now for a Switch launch in the coming year or two.

Nintendo Switch Online Is Coming And Some Believe Animal Crossing May Come With It
Nintendo Switch Online was originally planned for 2017, but then Nintendo delayed the online service to September 2018. The news has many fans speculating that Nintendo will unveil Animal Crossing Switch as an incentive to get fans to subscribe to the Switchs online functionality, however.
The idea first came from a post on Reddits r/NintendoSwitch, which cites an investor Q& A segment with Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima. During the Q& A session, Kimishima said Nintendo sees Nintendo Switch Online as a component in its efforts to diversify how our games are played and to get people to play more of our games. And thats when Kimishima dropped a particularly juicy teaser.
We have some ideas about how to make Nintendo Switch Online appealing when it becomes a for-pay service, so I think our next announcement will be worth the wait, Takahashi said according to GameSpot.
Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp
As for whether that next announcement will be Animal Crossing, its unclear. But theres a good reason for Takahashi to tease a potential Animal Crossing Nintendo Switch title to investors.
Animal Crossing was a major success for the Nintendo 3DS, with Animal Crossing: New Leaf selling over 11.5 million units as of Dec. 31, 2017. That makes New Leaf the Nintendo 3DS seventh best-selling game, beating out both Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS as well as Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.

Can You Buy The Happy Home Paradise Dlc Separately
Nintendo also offers the Happy Home Paradise DLC separately from the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service, but not in the way you might think. As part of the Direct, it was revealed youâll be able to purchase the DLC âstandaloneâ for $25, but this doesnât mean you can forego having the base game. Instead, this phrasing simply means you can purchase Happy Home Paradise without having a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership.
If youâre only interested in the Animal Crossing DLC, itâs recommended to buy it separately since itâs less expensive than the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons Happy Home Paradise DLC launches on November 5, 2021.
