Clocking Up The Miles
New Horizons vastly improves on aspects of the series that are familiar to us but it also introduces entirely new things to dig into. Like a new currency.
As mentioned, Bells are still the primary currency as you need them for pretty much everything.
But there are now also Nook Miles. This new currency is earned simply by playing the game and completing daily and more long-term objectives, kind of like an Achievements system. It adds a nice bit of guidance if you’re unsure of what to do with yourself. Completing objectives like planting flowers, catching fish and checking into the game each day will earn you Nook Miles. Heck, sometimes even spending Nook Miles can earn you Nook Miles.
Having two currencies in the game, one of which rewards you simply for being active, not only adds a bit of guidance if youre not sure what to do with yourself, it creates more balance with fewer instances of hitting a financial brick wall. Theres a pleasant sense that the decorative and creative fun doesn’t have to stop just because you’re using Bells to pay off a loan or trying to raise funds for a bridge.
Nook Miles are particularly worth collecting because you can buy some great stuff with them that you cant buy with Bells like more inventory space, some fantastic outdoor decorations and, at a later point, you can trade Miles for Bells if you’re in need of a real cash injection. Nook Miles can also get you plane tickets for visits to other islands.

Animal Crossing Enthusiast Creates An Adorable Set Of Amiibo Coins
For Animal Crossing fans, it is pretty hard not to want to go out and spend all of your money on amiibo cards for the game, especially with all of the new content that is coming out for Animal Crossing New Horizons in the near future. As tempting as those new amiibos are, though, know that there are other alternatives to satisfying your needs.
In order to avoid the dreaded but tempting fate of overspending on Animal Crossing cards, Redditor Lions_And_Lambs decided to spend their time and money making their own unique amiibos in the game via some interesting little coins. As you can see in the post below, these creative little bits of Animal Crossing currency are custom made, featuring characters like Pascal, Poppy, and many more.
According to the comments section of the post, anyone that is interested in making these kinds of coins themselves can simply Google amiibo coins for tutorials. These will walk you through the process of creating these types of coins for yourself for all sorts of different kinds of creations.

Key Animal Crossing Features Are Still Missing In New Horizons
New Horizons greatly expanded upon the possibilities of previous Animal Crossing games, so it’s strange that certain series mainstays are still absent. The most obvious omission is gyroids, pieces of furniture which are typically dug up from the ground. They’ve been in the series since the first game, and their main purpose is to look strangely charming and wiggle. By now, most long-term players have dug up every fossil, so something new to hunt for would be a great feature.
Brewster and The Roost in Animal Crossing are another aspect fans are awaiting in New Horizons. Brewster is a very dapper pigeon with a mustache, and he owns a café where he serves excellent coffee. In previous games, the player could even work at the Roost. The café has also served as place to store gyroids, which could be an indication that New Horizons is hoping to bundle those two features. Other New Horizons locations could use a boost, too, and previous games allowed players to expand Nook’s Cranny into a full multi-level department store. Adding expansion incentives to Nook’s Cranny and other buildings, like the Town Hall and the Able Sisters, would add a new goalpost to ACNH‘s gameplay, which it sorely needs to attract its players again.

Brewster And The Roost Return With Plenty Of Friends
Not much of a surprise here Septembers Direct was none too subtle in teasing that The Roost café would open up in New Horizons museum. Along with the fan-favorite pigeon barista, players will see the return of the shanty-crooning Kappn, the fortune-teller Katrina, and look! They even found a gig for hairstylist Harriet. Shes doing hair on Harvs hippie commune island.

Looking Better Than Ever
Decorating inside is also a more satisfying experience than its ever been thanks to a new streamlined mode which can be activated in your home. It gives you freedom to rotate and move things around without your avatar getting involved, making the whole thing faster and easier.
Generally, if youre the kind of person who has minimal interest in interior decoration, in a game like Animal Crossing you will have a penchant for perfecting your appearance. New Horizons has taken that aspect of play to new levels too. Look back and laugh at the days when you had to answer questions to generate a look for yourself like some kind of half-arsed sorting hat quiz. Now, from the very beginning, you have some control over what your character will look like with a good range of options.
As you get further into the game, youll be able to approach a mirror or vanity and change up your look as you please which only becomes more enjoyable as you unlock more styles.
Its not surprising given its on Nintendos most up-to-date console but this is truly the best-looking Animal Crossing game theres been. The textures and details, the lighting, the animationseverything is sharp, smooth, colorful and a big improvement on previous releases. Seriously, open up New Leaf to check and youll probably receive the same shock as us.

Animal Crossing Direct: When & How To Watch
Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be getting its own Direct, potentially announcing the big content update. Here’s when and how to watch.
After months of speculation regarding what might come next in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it was announced during the September Nintendo Direct that ACNH will get its own Animal Crossing Direct in October 2021. The announcement came alongside teaser images of Brewster and The Roost, which will be added to the New Horizons museum via a free content update in November. Like past Nintendo Direct showcases, players will be able to tune in online to get further details on Brewster and upcoming New Horizons content.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons struggled with a frustratingly dry summer for content updates. Unlike 2020, which introduced big mechanics like diving and swimming, 2021 has primarily seen repeats of previous events, and little new content to freshen up gameplay and objectives. While base gameplay in New Horizons can keep players busy for dozens of hours, many who have played since release have been holding out hope for updates focused on new Animal Crossing NPCs, shops, or upgrades to boost is already enjoyable about the game.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Gyroids
As previously leaked, the November 5 update is bringing gyroids to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. A common sight in previous Animal Crossing games, players will be able to find gyroid fragments buried on their islands. They can then plant and water them to make them grow into complete gyroids, which will be obtainable the day after it rains. The gyroids will make unique sounds, with players able to bring many of them together to create music. Like many other items in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players will be able to customize each gyroid’s appearance to better match whatever room they decide to display them in.
